A Study to Determine the Competencies Needed by Superintendents in the Area of Public Relations

Daves, Drennon 05 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was to determine specific competencies associated with the superintendent's role in public relations and to determine the relationship between school district size and public relations competencies needed by the superintendent. Conclusions of the study were Public relations competencies for superintendents can be identified in seven competency areas with specific competencies within each area. The seventy-seven specific public relations competencies identified in this study are all needed by practicing superintendents. There is a priority of importance among the seventy seven specific competencies with the competency area of "Relations With the Board of Education" receiving top priority and the competency area of "Personality Traits" receiving second priority. Superintendents from differing size school districts generally do not vary in their perceptions of the competency areas. Differences do exist between perceptions of superintendents of different size schools to specific competencies within competency areas.

SILVA, Cleber Abreu da 08 August 2014 (has links)
This work aims at evaluating the implementation of the PDE-School in two schools in Minas Gerais State. The program, conceived in a little representative way in its macro elaboration, suggests a greater representativity in its micro elaboration, even as MEC imposed an implementation guide of its politics to the schools. It is this ambiguity that motivated this present research. This context creates a number of objectives to be investigated, such as the incorporation of another verticalized politics by principals and teachers; the way these groups relate to one another in the execution of the Program; and finally, on how the demands raised by principals and teachers in the introductory phase of the Plan are being materialized in the schools. The answers to these objectives will reveal to our work the level of the incorporation of the PDE-Schools ideas making possible the identification of the gains as well as the setbacks of this governmental proposal from the view of its school protagonists. Thus, two schools were chosen, having in mind that one dealt with the PDE-School in its traditional format, using a methodology that demand from the institution a thorough survey of its features, requiring the participation of all its segments. The second school, since 2011, has experienced the PDE elaboration in its interactive format, being that only the Principal was the interlocutor of the gathered information, what may have, for some, mischaracterized the participative principle of its politics. The results lead to an intensification of the relations between school managers and teachers as well as to a minor transformation in the everyday pedagogics of the school, especially after the arrival of the equipment acquired with the PDE-School budget. Some of the reasons for these tensions and the few changes may be the least representative character of the present digital version and the re-edition of one more hierarchical government initiative.

In it, it has been searched to verify how curriculum and social-cultural context of the students relate themselves in the routine of a school that works with earlier series of elementary teaching. The research focus the curriculum, in order to mainly analyze how it relates in the school routine with the social questions (poverty, unemployment, criminality and violence), how these questions are treated in the prescribed curriculum and how they relate themselves in the curriculum in action. It has been chosen the case study with qualitative survey because such methodology used to contribute to a better understanding of the object. The researcher has chosen as main subjects of research the students of four classes, two of the Cycle I and two of the Cycle II, their parents, their teachers and the management team (principal, viceprincipal, pedagogical coordinator and a secretary). And this way, it has been search to analyze the uses of curriculum in the school routine, through the Proposta Curricular (Propose of Curriculum), Projeto Pedagógico (Pedagogical Projetc) and the Plano de Desenvolvimento Escolar (Developing Plan of the School), and also through the observations at the school, semi-structured interviews with teachers and managers, group dynamics with texts and interactive workshop with the students. The theoretical basis has included studies about public school, school curriculum and the neighborhood effect . The results point that to construct a curriculum articulated with the social-cultural context of the students is a great challenge and that the school practices are often distant from the social practices of the students. So, it has become clear that how important is to review the role of the school and the teacher in the school context, as well as the limits, possibilities and challenges between what one lives at the school and what one lives at the community.

Tuvér, Alexandra, Blomqvist, Elin January 2009 (has links)
