There is a growing consensus that at the core of school effectiveness and learner achievement is instructional leadership. Research evidence show that the rigid command and control leadership tendencies stifles individual and team creativity which may in turn deter platitudes about quality teaching and learning as well as learner achievement. This research has argued that to strengthen teaching and learning, instructional leadership should be nurtured through the establishment of a leadership development program. This program should focus on, amongst others, an in-depth understanding of school and classroom practices that could improve learner achievement. The overall aim of this research was to assess instructional leadership in schools and to ascertain its implications for whole school evaluation. To achieve this aim the quantitative research design was used. Data was collected from a range of post level one educators to deputy principals at Ekurhuleni West District by means of a structured questionnaire. The identification and conceptual meanings in respect of instructional leadership were achieved through the results of the empirical data, although it was difficult to find a succinct definition from the literature gleaned. Three successive factor analyses on the research instrument (the questionnaire) produced one factor, namely: • Academic standards consisting of 50 items with a Cronbach- Alpha reliability co-efficient of 0,990. This factor indicates a high reliability co-efficient correlation between the independent and dependent variables in this research- (instructional leadership and whole school evaluation). (Instructional leadership being the predictor variable (independent variable) and whole school evaluation being the criterion variable (dependent variable). This research has shown that the presence or lack of presence of instructional leadership would determine the kind of results that may be obtained from the process of whole school evaluation. Important findings from the literature review indicate that high achieving schools have principals that place instruction as their highest priority. These are the principals that set goals, understand instruction and curriculum, are results-driven, evaluate and monitor progress to bring about increased learner learning, become physically visible and accessible and promote instructional climate (Van Deventer and Kruger, 2003:248-254). The recommendations explicated in chapter five indicated that principals need the opportunity to explore and update skills in instructional leadership, curriculum development, supervision and school management. / Prof. C.F. A study of principal evaluation policy and procedure in the Commonwealth of Virginia, 1987-88Born, William Gustave January 1988 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine principal evaluation as conducted in the public school divisions of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Specifically, the study (1) described principal evaluation policies and procedures currently in place in the school divisions, (2) compared those policies and procedures with "state of the art" ” recommendations in literature, and (3) made recommendations that should prove helpful in the development of principal· evaluation policies and procedures for school divisions.
Data for the study were collected from the school divisions of Virginia in two ways. A questionnaire was sent to the chief personnel officer in each division and written policy and procedures were collected from each division.
The findings indicated there is a need for updating principal evaluation policy and procedures in many of the public school divisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Recent revisions in principal evaluation policy and procedures reported by some of the public school divisions do not evaluate effective leadership. However, it is not necessary for the Virginia Department of Education to develop a principal evaluation prototype since there are a number of excellent principal evaluation programs presently in existence in the school divisions. / Ph. Administration and faculty are now being held accountable for the learning process in educational programs at the institutional level. The purpose of this study was to describe and compare baccalaureate graduates' perceptions of Ball State University School of Nursing's education program and employers' perceptions of those graduates. This study also examined graduates demographic characteristics such as, personal information, education, professional practice, and professional activities. Stufflebeam's (1966) CIPP Model for evaluation was utilized as a theoretical framework. A convenience sample of all graduates of 19881990 one year after graduation and 1986-1987 graduates five years after graduation and employers willing to participate completed the questionnaires and/or demographic sheet. The perceptions of graduates towards Ball State University School of Nursing's educational programs and employers'perceptions towards the graduates were examined in descriptive design.A list of names was received from Ball State University's Alumni Office. Questionnaires were coded and mailed with a cover letter and a stamped, self-addressed envelope.All participants were informed of rights as human subjects and the confidentiality of this study. A cover letter informed subjects of procedures, risks, and benefits. Ball State University's Institutional Review Board granted permission to conduct the study.The findings of this study of one and five year postgraduates lead to the general conclusion that Ball State University's baccalaureate nursing program has been successful. These findings are consistent with those found in the literature. In general, the graduates expressed satisfaction with all aspects of the baccalaureate nursing education.The findings from the instrument to measure employers' perceptions (one and five years after graduation) were positive. Approximately three fourths of employers indicated the graduates functioned at above expected levels in regards to communication, nursing, leadership skills, andprofessionalism. The graduates had a successful transition into practice, and employers were satisfied with the graduates' performances. / School of Nursing

Part of the thesis consists of results from an inquiry among academics from 4 departments of the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Economics, Prague, and students of the CEMS International Management program. The results provide a comparison of current practices and stakeholder views, and shows whether these two are in alignment or contradiction.

The thesis also describes physical education according to the framework educational program. The practical part describes the results of the questionnaire survey, which examined how teachers evaluate pupils in the subject of physical education.
