This present research has the purpose to contribute for the history of the Great Expositions of the second half of the XIX century, underlining the participation of the Brazilian Empire on these events, in particular in the Paris Universal Exposition in 1889. We found it possible, when analyzing the scientific instrument¿s catalogues, reports, memories, scientific magazines, among other sources, to identify tracks that reveal to us that the Brazilian Empire intended to appear under the image of the ¿Exotic flower of the tropics¿. After discover that the academic works that were made in Brazil about these great events, from 1980 until today, disregard the participation of the Latin American countries, this work intend to be developed in the confluence of the lines of research , although they can be articulated, remains until today dissociated in the national history production. Ekonomické vzdělávání v padesátých letech 20. století na příkladu Vysoké školy ekonomické v Praze / The economic education in the 50s of the 20th century

Halíková, Petra January 2012 (has links)
The diploma thesis focuses on the topic of the economic education in the 50s of the 20th century. The issue is analyzed on the example of the University of Economics in Prague. The establishment of the University of Economics became an important milestone for the economic education in Czechoslovakia. The University of Economics was established in 1953 on the basis of the governmental regulation from 19th August 1952 No. 40/1952 Coll. regarding another changes in the organization of universities. It was stated that the studies would be for four years and the students would be able to choose from five faculties. This school was set up after the previous difficult development on the ground of the universities. The establishment of the University of Economics forewent cancelation, renaming and the establishment of different universities. These universities also concentrated on schooling in the area of economics. The legacy of the University of Economics can be seen in the continuity to the venerable University of Commerce, which belonged among the successful universities in our state. Furthermore, it undoubtedly helped to develop the origins of economics as a branch of science. The schooling on the universities in the 50s was influenced by Marxist-Leninist ideology, which was perceived as general truth at the time. The aim of the thesis is to clarify whether the University of Economics contributed to the development of the economic education in the 50s. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of the applied methodology. The applied methodology is a collection of knowledge - a social history. Moreover, there are discussed institutions and legislations foregoing the establishment of the University of Economics. In the practical part of the thesis is described the state of economics as a science in the 50s in Czechoslovakia and the importance of Marxism-Leninism and political economics for economy. In addition, there is outlined the development of economics as science during a certain period of time.

This paper discusses the works developed by researcher José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva (1763-1838) connected to Chemistry and Mineralogy as well as the works that demonstrate his efforts to bring the science in force in Europe of the eighteenth and nineteenth century for Brazilian reality. We aim to study this side of Andrada e Silva, once we noted that the socio-anthropological works and the strong political influence of Andrada e Silva was already explored enough by scholars of several areas. However, we almost did not find secondary works that discuss the side of chemist and mineralogist of this scholar. For such research, we performed a search for documents of Andrada e Silva and for bibliography that addresses his works while natural philosopher. We did a more general approach of the material aiming to separate it according to the approach. Due to being a qualitative research, the documents, papers, books and thesis- our data- were separated and analyzed individually. When the work of data interpretation began, we used historical material to contextualize historically and socially the works of the researcher. The results showed that there was much dedicated research both in Chemistry and Mineralogy. From minerals petalite and spodumene, it was possible, later, to isolate the chemical element Lithium, of broad applicability nowadays. In relation to teaching, Andrada e Silva aspired major changes to the course of Natural Philosophy of the University of Coimbra, which unfortunately was not put into practice. Even with this disillusion, when returning to Brazil, he proposed several works that had as main focus to develop the science in his homeland, in the attempt to equate it to other nations visited by him. With his strong political influence, he also had the opportunity to become tutor of D. Pedro II, thereby influencing his taste for sciences, especially Chemistry.

Tvorové vědy. Živé modely a budování vědeckých komunit / Creatures of Science, Living Models and the Construction of Scientific Communities

Stella, Marco January 2014 (has links)
Creatures of Science. Living Models and the Construction of Scientific Communities. Marco Stella The present thesis, which is to be understood as a contribution both to history and anthropology of science, deals with the relationship of the construction and emergence of scientific communities and the use of models in science, or construction of new forms of knowledge. We deal primary with the history of life sciences, especially behavioral sciences, which formed in the beginning of the 20th century as a relatively independent a scientific field and a rather heterogeneous platform for a common research of life utterances and cognition of man and other animals. The thesis focuses mainly on living models, often used biological and psychological research. Using Latour's concepts of modernity and hybridity, the thesis points at the hybridizing effect of behavioral sciences (the model always shapes and creates the modelled) and also at their ways of human and animal images. The second often serve as a basis for constructing the second. I also discuss some the ways how implicit model properties, which influence the (seemingly) isolated sphere of science, affect the chances of a community for becoming a discipline. On three examples from the history of life sciences, i.e. the unsuccessful institutionalization of...
