Estruturas lamelares de madeira para coberturas / Wood segmental-lattice vaults structures for roofs

Núbia dos Santos Saad Ferreira 19 March 1999 (has links)
The wood segmental-lattice vaults were introduced in Europe in 1908, in Brazil in 1922 and in the United States in 1925. They were very used between the twenties and sixties for covering big areas as industrial sheds, gymnasiums, auditoriums, exposition pavilions, garages, storaged structures, churches, club salons and others. These structures are constituted by bar elements that are parts of a three dimensional quadrangular net, forming a vault. The purpose of this work is to present the design recommendations of these structures from the determination of the active efforts on the bars and nodal displacements, with basis on the Brazilian standard NBR 7190:1997 - Timber structures project and, for this purpose, was developed a broad theoretical and an experimental studies about the structural and constructive systems of these structures. The results show the technical and economic viabilities (rationalization in the use of materials) in using these structures for covering medium and long roof spans.

Lněnička, Jakub January 2012 (has links)
The aim of the diploma project is to find a method through which it will be possibleto classify the selected emotion from speech. At the beginning of the work deals with the description of the human body and their voice-generating operation. Furthermore, the text deals with the problem of the human voice into digital form.Great attention is paid to the parameters of the speech signal with an emphasis on describing the symptoms to help the selected emotion. The work deals with therecognition of emotions and a description of some of them. The main part is finding the best methods to reduce symptoms of segmental and suprasegmental speech utterances. The results of success was achieved by comparing the classification of selected emotions when using multiple methods and compare their results. The most important criterion in assessing the results ofthe reduction parameters of the speech signal, based on previous research in this area.

Mutační analýza genu TRPC6 u pacientů s nefrotickým syndromem / Mutational analysis of the TRPC6 gene in patients with nephrotic syndrome

Obeidová, Lena January 2011 (has links)
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is one of the commonest cause of the nephrotic syndrome in adults patients. It is a damage of glomerulus characterized by leakage of proteins to urine and oedemas which usually develops into the end-stage renal disease within 10 years. Recently have been described familial forms of this disease which arise from injury to proteins making up filtration barrier of kidney. In 2005 non-selective ion channel TRPC6 was assigned among these proteins. In this thesis I focused on summarizing existing knowledge of the nephrotic syndrome, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and involvement of TRPC6 in their origin. Second part of this work is devoted to the screening analysis of TRPC6 gene to discover possible mutations and polymorfisms in 47 patients with histologically proven focal segmental glomerulosclerosis or minimal change disease. The used methods were high resolution melting and direct sequencing. In the group of patients was detected no pathogenic mutation, only 2 known polymorfisms P15S and A404V and few changes which do not result in alteration of amino acid. So it seems TRPC6 gene mutations are a rare cause of the focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in adult patients in the Czech Republic.

Strukturování plazmových polymerů: nové metody přípravy tenkých vrstev s nano-architekturou / Structuring of plasma polymers: new methods for fabrication of nano-architectured thin films

Nikitin, Daniil January 2019 (has links)
Title: Structuring of plasma polymers: new methods for fabrication of nano-architectured thin films Author: Daniil Nikitin Department / Institute: Department of Macromolecular Physics/Charles University Supervisor of the doctoral thesis: Doc. Ing. Andrey Shukurov, PhD, Department of Macromolecular Physics/Charles University Abstract: The PhD thesis aims at the investigation of nanostructures based on plasma polymers. The main attention is paid to the combination of a gas aggregation cluster source with plasma-assisted vapor phase deposition for the fabrication of metal-polymer nanocomposites with bactericidal potential. Copper nanoparticles were incorporated into a biocompatible matrix of plasma polymerized poly(ethylene oxide) (ppPEO). The efficiency of such nanocomposite against multi-drug resistant bacteria was demonstrated. It was found that the segmental dynamics of the plasma polymer significantly changed in the presence of nanoparticles as revealed by the measurements of the dynamic glass transition temperature. The nanoscale confinement crucially influences the non-fouling properties of poly(ethylene oxide). A separate chapter is dedicated to the examination of the nanoparticle formation, growth and transport inside the source. Copper and silver nanoparticles were detected in situ in the gas phase...

Dynamic Segmental Kinematics of the Lumbar Spine During Diagnostic Movements

McMullin, Paul 08 December 2023 (has links) (PDF)
While lumbar kinematics can be measured in vivo, most measurements are invasive (such as percutaneous bone pins), provide high doses of radiation (such as biplane fluoroscopy), or are taken with the patient in a static position (such as MRIs). Recent work suggests that lumbar kinematics can be determined by dynamic measurements of epidermal strain in the lower back. This work aims to develop and examine a method of examining lumbar kinematics via optoelectronic motion capture utilizing skin-mounted markers in the lumbar region. Two studies were performed. One study examined lumbar epidermal strain in 28 asymptomatic subjects during diagnostic movements, while the second study used fresh/frozen cadavers to compare segmental lumbar kinematics as measured by both an optoelectronic motion capture system utilizing skin-mounted markers and an electromagnetic motion capture system utilizing sensors mounted to percutaneous bone pins inserted into the spinous processes. In the first study, participants had a grid-like marker set adhered to their lower back. They were instructed to perform 17 diagnostic movements, with data from three trials of each exercise being captured. Data was analyzed in MATLAB to examine segmental lumbar kinematics. Analysis shows trends consistent with expected movement patterns for asymptomatic individuals with measurement values consistent with those found in previous studies. Trends of symmetry in motion for left versus right motions were observed, as well as a trend for the return motion in a movement to be faster than the outgoing motion. In the second study, three fresh/frozen cadavers were outfitted with electromagnetic motion tracking sensors mounted to bone pins which were placed in the spinous processes of L1-S2. Each cadaver also had a similar grid-like marker set of optical motion tracking markers adhered in the lumbar region. The cadavers were moved through 10 of the same diagnostic exercises with data from seven trials from each exercise being captured. Data was analyzed in MATLAB to compare the end range of motion as measured by the optical system to the same measurements by the electromagnetic system. End ROM values showed statistically different measurements for five of the twelve segment measurements compared. Data collected in this work contributes to the establishment of normative dynamic kinematics of the lumbar spine in the asymptomatic population. It also outlines the strengths and weaknesses of the methodology utilized.

Efficacité analgésique de la neurostimulation périphérique (TENS) chez les aînés / Analgesic efficacy of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) in the elderly

Bergeron-Vézina, Kayla January 2015 (has links)

Engel, Hélène 06 1900 (has links)
Introduction : The aim of this study was to evaluate the medium and long term stability of segmented LeFort I surgery in all three planes of space (transverse, sagittal and vertical). Materials and methods : The sample consisted of 31 private practice patients that received a two, three, or four-piece segmented LeFort I surgery and who had finished their orthodontic treatment. Study models and cephalometric radiographs were analyzed before treatment, before surgery, after surgery, and at the end of the orthodontic treatment for the 31 patients as well as a minumum two years into retention for 17 patients (mean of 3 years post-treatment). T-tests and Pearson correlation tests were used. Intra and inter-examiner reliability were verified with Bland Altman and intraclass coefficient tests. Results : A statistically significant transverse relapse was seen at the premolars and molars between surgery and the end of orthodontic treatment, that has little clinical significance. The relapse is correlated with the effective expansion. There was no significant relapse after orthodontic treatment was completed. There was no correlation between the amount of relapse observed and the amount of segments. Statistically significant changes were measured in the post surgical phase for maxillary advancement and impaction cases, but were shown to be of limited clinical significance. After removal of fixed appliances, no significant changes were noted. Conclusion : Multisegmented Lefort I surgery appears to have good stability in all three planes of space in the studied sample.
