A novel meander bowtie-shaped antenna with multi-resonant and rejection bands for modern 5G communicationsFaouri, Y.S., Ahmad, S., Ojaroudi Parchin, Naser, See, C.H., Abd-Alhameed, Raed 27 March 2022 (has links)
Yes / To support various fifth generation (5G) wireless applications, a small, printed bowtie-shaped microstrip antenna with meandered arms is reported in this article. Because it spans the broad legal range, the developed antenna can serve or reject a variety of applications such as wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi), sub-6 GHz, and ultra-wideband (UWB) 5G communications due to its multiband characterization and optimized rejection bands. The antenna is built on an FR-4 substrate and powered via a 50-Ω microstrip feed line linked to the right bowtie’s side. The bowtie’s left side is coupled via a shorting pin to a partial ground at the antenna’s back side. A gradually increasing meandering microstrip line is connected to both sides of the bowtie to enhance the rejection and operating bands. The designed antenna has seven operating frequency bands of (2.43–3.03) GHz, (3.71–4.23) GHz, (4.76–5.38) GHz, (5.83–6.54) GHz, (6.85–7.44) GHz, (7.56–8.01) GHz, and (9.27–13.88) GHz. The simulated scattering parameter S11 reveals six rejection bands with percentage bandwidths of 33.87%, 15.73%, 11.71, 7.63%, 6.99%, and 12.22%, respectively. The maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 4.46 dB. The suggested antenna has been built, and the simulation and measurement results are very similar. The reported antenna is expanded to a four-element design to investigate its MIMO characteristics. / Partially funded by British Council “2019 UK-China-BRI Countries Partnership Initiative” program, with project titled “Adapting to Industry 4.0 oriented International Education and Research Collaboration.

Scour reduction around bridge pier using the airfoil-shaped collarGupta, L.K., Pandey, M., Raj, P.A., Pu, Jaan H. 12 October 2024 (has links)
Yes / Scouring around the bridge pier is a natural and complex phenomenon that results in bridge
failure. Failure of bridges have potential devastation and public safety and economic loss, which lead
to political consequences and environmental impacts. Therefore, it is essential to countermeasure the
scour around the bridge pier. This paper studies the effects of four different airfoil-shaped collars
(i.e., bc1 = 1.5b, bc2 = 2.0b, bc3 = 2.5b and bc4 = 3.0b, where bc and b are the diameter of the airfoil-shaped
collar and pier, respectively) as a scour countermeasure. All the experiments are conducted under
clear water conditions with uniform sediment and a constant water depth (y) of 10 cm. Airfoil-shaped
collar is placed at four elevations, i.e., bed level, y/4, y/2 and 3y/4 above the sediment bed level. It
is observed that the maximum percentages of scour reduction of 86, 100 and 100% occurred due to
protection provided by the collar bc2, bc3 and bc4, respectively, at sediment bed level. So, collars bc2,
bc3 and bc4 are efficient at the sediment bed level. The profiles of scour hole show that the length of
the transverse scour hole is greater than that of the longitudinal one. Numerical investigation of the
morphological changes in sediment bed and scour depth contours is developed using the FLOW-3D
for the pier with and without the airfoil-shaped collar.

In this thesis, we study mixed vehicle routing and loading problems where a constraint is imposed on delivery sequences. More precisely, the items in the loading area of a vehicle must be directly accessible, without moving any other item, at delivery time. These problems are often found in the transportation of large objects (furniture, appliances).
The first paper proposes a branch-and-cut algorithm for a variant of the single vehicle pickup and delivery problem, where the loading area of the vehicle is divided into several stacks. When an item is picked up, it must be placed on the top of one of these stacks. Conversely, an item must be on the top of one of these stacks to be delivered. This requirement is called “Last In First Out” or LIFO constraint.
The second paper presents another branch-and-cut algorithm for a vehicle routing and loading problem with two-dimensional rectangular items. The loading area of the vehicles is also a rectangular area where the items are taken out from one side. A constraint states that the items of a given customer must be directly accessible at delivery time.
The last paper considers a stochastic vehicle routing and loading problem with two- dimensional rectangular items where the dimensions of some items are unknown when the routes are planned. However, it is possible to associate a discrete probability distribution on the dimensions of these items. The problem is solved with the Integer L-Shaped method.

We study the system formed by two coupled condensates of different Rubidium hyperfine states trapped in a cigar shaped potential, that is, a real quasi one-dimensional system. The dependency of the solution of the Gross-Pitaevski equations is investigated as a function of trap displacement and Josephson coupling parameter for three different values of the total trapped atoms number. For some sets of parameters we report the existence of metastable states. The observable we chose to characterize this system was the mean separation between the packages, because we found two branches which correspond to closer or more separated solutions.

[en] ACCELERATING BENDERS STOCHASTIC DECOMPOSITION FOR THE OPTIMIZATION OF PARTIAL BACKORDER CONTROL FOR PERIODIC REVIEW (R, S) INVENTORY SYSTEM WITH UNCERTAIN DEMAND / [pt] ACELERANDO A DECOMPOSIÇÃO DE BENDERS ESTOCÁSTICA PARA OTIMIZAÇÃO DE UM MODELO DE GESTÃO DE ESTOQUE DE REVISÃO PERIÓDICA (R, S) COM BACKORDER PARCIAL E DEMANDA INCERTAFELIPE SILVA PLACIDO DOS SANTOS 05 September 2017 (has links)
[en] This dissertation presents a speed up proposal for the Benders decomposition applied to a more general and compact version (less constraints and variables) of inventory management model, optimized via two-stage stochastic programming, which considers one layer, one item, uncertain demand and control policy (R, S). In order to be possible to consider large scale problems, the L-Shaped traditional method with single cuts and its extended form with multiple cuts were applied. Preliminary computational results showed a substantially better computational performance of the traditional L-Shaped method in comparison to the multi-cut L-Shaped method, even with the first requiring more iterations to converge on optimum solutions. This observation led to the development of a new technique to accelerate the decomposition of Benders and a set of valid inequalities. Numerical experiments show that the proposed approach of combining the elaborate acceleration technique with the developed valid inequalities, provide significant reduction in the computational time required to solve large scale instances.

Stratigraphic evolution and characteristics of lobes : a high-resolution study of Fan 3, Tanqua Karoo, South AfricaNeethling, J. M. 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MSc (Earth Sciences))--University of Stellenbosch, 2009. / Fan 3 is one of four basin-floor fans that form part of the Tanqua Karoo Fan Complex in South Africa. It can be subdivided into several sandstone lobes, based on the presence of thin-bedded siltstone intervals above and below major sandstone packages. Six lobes are identified in the mid fan section, as well as two older groups of thin, low-volume turbidite deposits at the base. Some of the lobes are further divided into an upper and lower lobe-element based on depositional behaviour. The volumetrically and spatially larger lobes have a finger-like appearance in plan view, which is attributed to multiple lobe-scale axial zones. This is especially visible towards the eastern margins of Lobes 2, 4 and 5. The stratigraphy and facies distribution are presented on several 2D panels. Computer generated isopach maps are presented for each lobe, lobe-element and interlobe unit.
Autogenic control on the depositional pattern of the Fan 3 lobe complex was inferred from the palaeoflow patterns of the composing lobes and lobe-elements. The majority of the lobes show a north-eastern palaeoflow direction in the south, with a gradual westward shift in the north. Inferred controls are basin-floor topography, the presence of pre-existing lobes, and characteristics of the depositional flow, such strength, density, sediment load, palaeoflow direction.

Aplicação do poli(ε-caprolactona) com estrutura estrelada para obtenção de microesferas biorreabsorvíveis / Aplication of star-shaped poly(epsilon-caprolactone) to prepare bioreabsorbable microspheresCunha, Tatiana Franco da 25 May 2012 (has links)
The poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) is a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer which has been approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Many studies that are using its linear or branched form have showed promising results for medical devices and controlled drug delivery applications. The aim of this research was the use of star-shaped PCL (PCLE) to prepare bioreabsorbable microspheres. At first, the physical-chemical properties were characterized by Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Protons Resonance Magnetic Nuclear (1H-RMN), Carbon Resonance Magnetic Nuclear (13C-RMN), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The toxicological property was investigated by colorimetric assay using CHO-K1 cells and the vital dye (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium) (MTS) and the electron acceptor phenazine methosulfate (PMS). The biodegradation behavior was evaluated in the presence of lipase at 37 ºC and pH 7.4. The microspheres were prepared by complex emulsion W/O/W. The PCLE was characterized as low molecular weight polymer with monomodal distribution and about 68,8 % of the molecules were three-arm branched. The melting and glass transition temperatures were 57.3 ºC and -54.3 ºC, respectively. The cytotoxicity evaluation showed that PCLE extract was cell compatible. The obtained microspheres showed diameter polydispersity.

The Corumbá Group, SW Brazil, documents an important stage in the evolution of life because of its fossil record of microbialites, microfossils, and early multicellular organisms indicative of the rapidly increasing complexity of the biosphere at the very end of the Ediacaran period. The paleobiological importance of the Bocaina Formation, in middle of the Corumbá Group and dated at about 560 Ma, lies in its diversity of microbialites and its record of a significant phosphogenesis event with associated putative \"vase-shaped microfossils\", similar to testate amoebae, interpreted as early protistan heterotrophs. Th ese fossils, as well as similar forms recognized in other geologic units in the world precede the record of the explosion of macroscopic multicellular skeletal organisms (Cloudina, Corumbella) in the overlying Tamengo Formation (543 Ma). The morphology of microbialites provides evidence of local sea level variation during deposition of the Bocaina Formation. Morphological and chemical analyses of the microfossils using optical and scanning electron microscopy, EDS and Raman spectroscopy helped clarify the biological nature of these objects and thereby contribute to the understanding of the importance of the Bocaina Formation the evolution of late Ediacaran life in the Corumbá Group.
