Performance Evaluation of Various Open Source Projects Providing SIP Functionality

Nallapati, Shiva Chaitanya, Karna, Viswa VardhanReddy January 2011 (has links)
In recent times, the usage of Voice and Video over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services has increased tremendously. There are many signaling protocols such as Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC), H.323, Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), Session Initiation protocol (SIP) etc., that are used for establishment of sessions and to carry out voice and video data services. SIP has become popular because of its easy implementation, flexibility and good scalability. Choice of Open Source SIP server software (OS-SIP Server Software) is important when deploying in a VoIP based network. So we need to evaluate the performance of OS-SIP Server Softwares in an ideal condition before it is deployed to real environment. This document evaluates and compares the performance of three OS-SIP Server Softwares which are quite popular. A SIPp traffic generator tool is used to generate scenarios namely Registration with authentication, Registration without authentication, Session establishment, and Session establishment with response delay at User Agent Server (UAS) side. Using these scenarios, the performance of OS-SIP Server Softwares is evaluated with respect to parameters such as Registrations per second, Calls per second, Response delay, and Percentage of successful calls and registrations. From the experimental results, we observed that there is a significant performance difference among the SIP server softwares. OpenSIPS is the best OS-SIP Server Software for the scenarios Registration with authentication, Registration without authentication and Session establishment with response delay. Asterisk server is the best OS-SIP Server Software when compared with the other two (OpenIMSCore and OpenSIPS) servers for the scenario Session establishment.

Řešení bezpečnosti v IMS / IMS security solutions

Porubský, Tomáš January 2009 (has links)
In the first part of my master's thesis the network architecture of IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is presented. The database of subscribers HSS (Home Subscriber Server) and SLF (Subscription Locator Function), as well as a SIP CSCF servers (Call Session Control Functions) process a SIP signalization and an AS application server performing services, etc. I focus on the registration of subscribers in the IMS network with a list of transmitted messages and description of each interface that is used in this network. The most important interfaces, which I described here, are Gm, Mw, Cx, Dx and Sh. Then I focused on security in IMS problems, which are divided into categories of access security and network security. After that is the implementation of IMS network in an open source Open IMS Core System considered under the Linux operating system. Here is the problem description from the actual system installation, through the configuration of all necessary elements of the network to the communication party itself. The communication analysis in the initial registration process and in subsequent communications is described. Finally I created laboratory exercises with a focus on the Open IMS Core System, where students learn about architecture and principle of networks based on IMS technology operation, with individual elements necessary for the operation of the network and their configuration. Students also test simple captured traffic analysis.

Migrering till IP-baserad telefonilösning

Sandström, Kristoffer January 2015 (has links)
The usage of IP-telephony has increased in recent past and the market is expected to continue to grow globally. Many want to take part in the advantages that the new technology brings in form of functionality and reduced costs. But to migrate telephony to data networks brings both new possibilities but also new challenges. This report examines how Asterisk can be used as a good IP-PBX alternative. The report also addresses the security aspect of connecting a system based on Asterisk to the internet through conducting intrusion tests on the system in standard configuration. These tests result in recommendations on how the system can be configured to keep a high security standard.

Service Policy Management for User-Centric Services in Heterogeneous Mobile Networks,

Avgeropoulos, Konstantinos January 2004 (has links)
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling protocol for IP-based media services that will be the de facto standard for future media-over-IP services. Since SIP User Agents (UAs) support a limited number of service types (usually one or two), we assume that the future user will need to operate several UAs simultaneously. These UAs will constitute the user's personal service network. In this thesis, we investigate architectures for policy-based management of this network so that it can be used in an efficient manner. To achieve this, we propose a new SIP entity, called the SIP Service Manager (SSM), which lies in the core of the management system. Finally, we evaluate our proposal by implementing one version of the SIP Service Manager.

Tjus, Johanna, Thompson, Pontus January 2021 (has links)
This study explores a learning tool that uses gamification. Gamification refers to the act of using game elements for a process that is not typically related to gaming, for the purpose to enhance engagement and motivation of the user. It is a game called SIP-spelet and has been developed for the purpose of facilitating the handling and learning of Samordnad individuell plan (SIP) in a region called Västra Götalandsregionen in Sweden. The study also explores gamification as a learning method and the role of gamification in healthcare. The game has been tested and evaluated by a selected target group. The data collection method has been via a questionnaire. This study uses mostly qualitative questions but does also use some quantitative questions for the collection of data. The results show that SIP-spelet is considered a valuable learning tool and that when gamification is used in a correct way it is a useful learning method that makes users motivated and engaged in their learning.

Talöverföring för trygghetslarm över internet : Voice over IP for personal alarms

Stenman, Peter, Janson, Mikael January 2016 (has links)
During the last couple of years there has been a shift in technology within the Swedish elderly care where the analog personal security alarm is being replaced with personal security alarm that uses internet to communicate. This transition happens due to the ever increasing access to the internet among the elderly and the decreasing availability of analog personal security alarms. This paper describes the work whose purpose is to develop a system that will act as a prototype of a personal security alarm that uses Voice Over IP and the protocol Session Initiation Protocol. The final system is to be comprised by a Raspberry Pi that uses the SIP protocol, a keypad and a soundcard that is built around PCM3060 chip.

A Meeting Detector to Provide Context to a SIP Proxy

Ren, Xueliang January 2008 (has links)
As sensing technology develops, it plays an important role in context-aware systems. Using context information improves the user experience of ubiquitous computing. One use of sensed information is to detect a meeting in progress in an office or a conference room. In our system, sensors gather context information from an office environment and act as a presence user agent to update a presence server with context changes. These context changes can be utilized by context-aware services. The presence messaging uses the SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE) protocol and the presence information is described in eXtensible Makeup Language (XML) format. In this thesis we present a context-sensing component that recognizes meetings in a typical office environment. A context-aware system is able to use this occupancy information to infer that the room is empty, an individual is alone in the room, or a meeting is taking place in the meeting room. Context-aware services might utilize this environmental information to automatically forward a user's incoming calls to their voice mail server. This and other example applications were developed to show the usefulness of this context information.

Secure Communicator / Secure Communicator

Gažo, Matúš January 2012 (has links)
Secured long-distance communication has always been an important topic for people handling sensitive information. Now with the arrival of ``intelligent`` mobile phones eavesdropping and information gathering is as easy as never. Luckily smartphones present not only problems in terms of security but also an opportunity to protect ones privacy. This thesis attempts to construct a generic software architecture of a communicator which could be capable of transferring voice, video and other various forms of binary data in a secure way. It will analyse and use different communication channels to reach a maximum level of data authenticity, integrity and confidentiality in an environment where a central security element needs to be avoided. The resulting architecture will be tested on a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) application prototype for the mobile Google Android platform to show whether the approach is practically usable on currently available phones.
