Critical Study of Two Piano Transcriptions by August Stradal and the Transcriptions’ Sources: Alterations to the Score Based on Historical Evidence and Artistic Judgment

Vizcarra, Juan Guillermo 05 1900 (has links)
The fact that a number of pianists of the past two centuries adapted, embellished, and rearranged piano works for performance, be these original works or transcriptions, has been well documented throughout history. This thought, in addition to the fact that Stradal’s scores needed revision, encouraged me to make alterations to Stradal’s transcriptions and served as a strong incentive to write the current study. In it, I will comment on the alterations performed to segments of Stradal’s piano transcriptions of Wagner’s Schluβ der letzten Aufzuges (End of the last Act) from Siegfried and Trauermusik aus dem letzten Aufzug (Siegfried’s Funeral March) from Götterdämmerung. These changes have the purpose of reflecting in the piano as closely as possible the sonorous reality of the transcriptions’ operatic sources and, by doing so, making Stradal’s arrangements more effective for performance.

Translation as interpretation : Siegfried Lenz' "Motivsuche"

Disterheft, John F. 01 January 1990 (has links)
It is the purpose of this thesis to show that literary interpretation and translation are closely interrelated, that the translator cannot pursue his goal, the transfer of a work of literature from one language into another, without interpreting that work as literature.

Nicoletti, Tamini Farias January 2017 (has links)
This study investigates the characteristics of the technical and scientific production at the Siegfried Emanuel Heuser Economics and Statistics Foundation (FEE) contained in the series of Texts for Discussion published from 2007 to 2015. Based on a quantitative approach, the research utilizes bibliometric and scientometric techniques to present a descriptive study of the 141 texts of the series. The data collection uses the method of bibliographical research and document analysis to identify the texts and their characteristics (text number within the series, year of publication, authorship, author’s institutional affiliation, title, abstract and indexing descriptors), an expansion of the identification of the topics (descriptors) and of the author’s institutional affiliation. One of the main results of the study reveals that the 10 most prolific authors are responsible for 44.6% of the texts, thus evincing a concentration of the production in a few authors. It also shows a tendency towards individual productions (single authorship), which account for 66.7% of the texts. Furthermore, it identifies that 83% of the texts are written exclusively by authors and/or coauthors who are researchers at FEE, thus pointing to a significant endogenous production. The majority of external authors are linked to higher education institutions, especially the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), which represents 35% of the authors. An analysis of the topics addressed indicates a concentration on five themes, all of them aligned with the fields of study of the institution, but with a limited thematic coverage considering the set of needs of the State. For a follow-up study, we suggest the construction and analysis of the collaboration networks of the Texts for Discussion and the development of new studies aimed at expanding and deepening the characterization and analysis of the technical and scientific production of this institution.
