Produção técnico-científica da Fundação de Economia e Estatística Siegfried Emanuel Heuser (FEE) : identificação e análise das características dos textos para discussão FEE de 2007 a 2015

Nicoletti, Tamini Farias January 2017 (has links)
This study investigates the characteristics of the technical and scientific production at the Siegfried Emanuel Heuser Economics and Statistics Foundation (FEE) contained in the series of Texts for Discussion published from 2007 to 2015. Based on a quantitative approach, the research utilizes bibliometric and scientometric techniques to present a descriptive study of the 141 texts of the series. The data collection uses the method of bibliographical research and document analysis to identify the texts and their characteristics (text number within the series, year of publication, authorship, author’s institutional affiliation, title, abstract and indexing descriptors), an expansion of the identification of the topics (descriptors) and of the author’s institutional affiliation. One of the main results of the study reveals that the 10 most prolific authors are responsible for 44.6% of the texts, thus evincing a concentration of the production in a few authors. It also shows a tendency towards individual productions (single authorship), which account for 66.7% of the texts. Furthermore, it identifies that 83% of the texts are written exclusively by authors and/or coauthors who are researchers at FEE, thus pointing to a significant endogenous production. The majority of external authors are linked to higher education institutions, especially the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), which represents 35% of the authors. An analysis of the topics addressed indicates a concentration on five themes, all of them aligned with the fields of study of the institution, but with a limited thematic coverage considering the set of needs of the State. For a follow-up study, we suggest the construction and analysis of the collaboration networks of the Texts for Discussion and the development of new studies aimed at expanding and deepening the characterization and analysis of the technical and scientific production of this institution.

Geskiedenis vasgevang in ’n net van fiksie : Harry Mulisch se Siegfried as postmodernistiese historiese roman

Brink, Lucille 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA (Afrikaans and Dutch))—University of Stellenbosch, 2006. / During an interview, the author Rudolf Herter in Harry Mulisch’s novel Siegfried states that Hitler would only be comprehended if an imaginative experiment is conducted by capturing him in a net of fiction. This is indeed what Mulisch does in this novel. The combination of historical and fictional data resulting from this strategy is typical of the conventional historical novel, while Siegfried also manifests modernist characteristics. In this study, however, special attention is paid to aspects such as metafictionality, selfreflexivity, subjectivity and an emphasis on ideology which Siegfried shares with other postmodern historical novels, with specific reference to Linda Hutcheon’s view on historiographic metafiction and Lies Wesseling’s definition of uchronian fiction. The focus in this study lies, inter alia, on the ways in which Mulisch utilizes open spaces in history and fits the fictitious data like pieces into the puzzle of the history of the Second World War in general and specific events surrounding Hitler in particular. Mulisch’s play with autobiographical data in the novel further diminishes the boundaries between fact and fiction. Of particular importance is the metafictional statements about the nature of history which Mulisch delivers in the process. Not only the political side of history, but also its subjective and one-sided nature is emphasised. Finally a question is posed about Mulisch’s intentions and aspirations in writing another novel about Hitler, who as a character in this novel awakens sympathy on the one hand and on the other is demonized as inhuman with superhuman qualities. This demonstrates the problems involved in gaining insight into the real Hitler. My opinion is that, in the final instance, Mulisch intentionally magnifies the enigma surrounding Hitler in his characterization of the man who can be regarded as one of the most destructive people of the 20th century.

Siegfried Sassoon and Rebecca West: A Dual-Commentary on the English Home Front in World War I

Farewell, Joseph 01 January 2011 (has links)
The glory of war is dead, and the Great War killed it. Soldierly dignity, heroism, and proper field chivalry; all laid to waste by a single mortar round at Arras. This ethos—a vestige of Greek warrior worship—stood little chance against the trenches. It either drowned in the fecal trench muck at the Somme or staggered back—in tatters, if that—a broken soul; another victim of the so-called “Good Fight.” And there were many victims. An entire generation, even, lost to the trenches. But that’s not even the worst part. The worst part is that home front in England didn’t even get it.

Jacob Struggling With the Angel: Siegfried Lipiner, Gustav Mahler, and the Search For Aesthetic-Religious Redemption in Fin-de-siècle Vienna

Kita, Caroline Amy January 2011 (has links)

This dissertation explores the meaning of art and religion in fin-de-siècle Vienna through the symphonies of the composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) and the philosophical and dramatic works of the poet Siegfried Lipiner (1856-1911). Using as a framework aesthetic discourses concerning the ability of music to be "read" as a narrative text, this study highlights the significant role of both poet and composer in the cultural and intellectual world of Vienna at the end of the nineteenth century. In this study, I compare and contrast Lipiner's vision of religious renewal with the redemptive narratives in the programs of Mahler's first four symphonies, which were composed during a period when the poet and composer shared a close friendship and intellectual exchange. Furthermore, I also discuss Mahler and Lipiner's works in relation to the writings of the Polish Romantic poet, Adam Mickiewicz (1798-1835), the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900), and the composer and cultural critic, Richard Wagner (1813-1883), demonstrating how the images of the heroic martyr, the Übermensch and the Volk, play a role in the re-conception of man's relationship to the divine, which is central to Mahler and Lipiner's idea of redemption. However, I also claim that the political and cultural climate of Vienna around 1900 played an important role in their interpretation of these ideas. Despite their public conversion and cultural assimilation, Mahler and Lipiner's Jewish heritage distinctly shaped their interest in artistic-religious redemption both to cope with their own personal feelings of alienation in the society in which they lived, and as a cure for the existential malaise of their time. This study demonstrates not only the significant impact of Lipiner's aesthetic-religious philosophy on Mahler's music, but also portrays their vision of redemption as an re-envisioning of man's relationship to God, which stands in contrast to the modern trend of secularism, and reflects a little-explored dimension of aesthetic and religious culture in fin-de-siècle Vienna.
/ Dissertation

Neither poppy not Mandragora : the memorialization of grief and grievance in the British literature of the Great War

Cannon, Jean M. 10 July 2012 (has links)
This dissertation examines the modes of individual and cultural grieving that characterize the British literature of the Great War and its aftermath, 1914-30. Combining archival research, cultural history, and genre theory, I identify the war literature’s expression of a poetics of grief and grievance: one that is melancholic, in that it resists redemptive mourning, and accusatory, in that it frequently assigns blame for war and suffering on civilian spectators or the writer himself. In order to trace the development of the anti-elegiac in the literature of the Great War, my dissertation provides: (a) a publication history of the war poems of Wilfred Owen, (b) a comparison of the manipulation of the pathetic fallacy and pastoral mode in the works of combatant poets and Virginia Woolf, and (c) a detailed assessment of the reception of the controversial war memoirs and novels of the late 1920s. My findings challenge the widely held assumption that the pervasive irony and disenchantment of the literature of the Great War is primarily a product of the historical rupture of the event. I emphasize that the ironic mode developed during the war- and inter-war periods is an expression of personal and social anxiety attached by writers to the subject of individual mortality. Additionally, I argue that the literature of the Great War focuses on the limits of language that addresses atrocity, and the instability of the idea of consolation in an era of mass, industrialized death. / text
