Bullying and Performance Anxiety in Classically Trained Singers

January 2017 (has links)
abstract: A strong correlation exists between the effects of bullying on a singer and his or her performance anxiety. An exhaustive literature review and a survey of classical singers were used to assess this hypothesis. The survey was compiled using standard psychological and current performance anxiety questionnaires with additional questions created by the author. The data were analyzed using a Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, a regression analysis, and an Analysis of Variance. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2017

It s intended with this text contribute with the clearness about the understanding and the perspectives of Paul Israel Singer related to the Solidary Economy (SE). In Brazil, the SE appears as a social movement, which began around the 80 s through cooperative experiences deriving from the search of work and revenues by unemployed men and women - or unemployment threatened - in the country. Singer, who is one of the most important and present authors in the SE movement, is also the current Coordinator of the Brazil Solidary Economy National Secretary (BSENS), which is a result of the articulations contest of many groups and agencies from the SE advances inside the World Social Meetings from 2000 to 2002. Within disagreements and unmeasures, Singer claims in a not very persuasive form that the solidary economy constitutes an alternative way of production. However through many texts and articles, the author insinuates that such alternative is a utopian betting, a future possibility, a political desire than a proper reality. Besides, from Paul Singer s considerations, we see the fragility and the inconsistency of the SE concept inside the movement as a whole and inside the BSENS. Even with the positive elements that the enterprises, which are said to be sympathetic, can offer - among them the participative democracy inside the collectives and the incites to democratic culture, the collective spirit and to the awareness of the capitalist exploitation - we can see that such enterprises have barely, when it happen, offer job and 10 revenues temporarily to those whom they deal with. In addition, the solidary economy is a vast possibilities field. Maybe this is its biggest real merit.

“I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues”: Considering the Music of Harold Arlen (1905-1986) for Use by Female Singers in the Classical Voice Studio

Hawk, Heather L. 08 1900 (has links)
American musical theater and film composer Harold Arlen is largely overshadowed by his contemporaries, such as George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter. However, his music serves as a viable alternative for singers of all skill level studying a classical technique. By studying the music of Harold Arlen, singers will utilize a wide range, legato line, negotiations of register, mood shifts, and varying tessituras. The following document considers the importance of Arlen’s music by analyzing eight of his songs from three prominent decades of compositional output. The eight songs examined are grouped by the decade of their composition: the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Each song is evaluated by determining the musical benefits included in each song and also the skill level required of the singer.
