Deep Neural Network for Classification of H&E-stained Colorectal Polyps : Exploring the Pipeline of Computer-Assisted HistopathologyBrunzell, Stina January 2024 (has links)
Colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent malignancies globally and recently introduced digital pathology enables the use of machine learning as an aid for fast diagnostics. This project aimed to develop a deep neural network model to specifically identify and differentiate dysplasia in the epithelium of colorectal polyps and was posed as a binary classification problem. The available dataset consisted of 80 whole slide images of different H&E-stained polyp sections, which were parted info smaller patches, annotated by a pathologist. The best performing model was a pre-trained ResNet-18 utilising a weighted sampler, weight decay and augmentation during fine tuning. Reaching an area under precision-recall curve of 0.9989 and 97.41% accuracy on previously unseen data, the model’s performance was determined to underperform compared to the task’s intra-observer variability and be in alignment with the inter-observer variability. Final model made publicly available at https://github.com/stinabr/classification-of-colorectal-polyps.

In the course of the continuous enhancements of processing and packaging machines, higher demands are set on conveying technology used for transferring goods. In addition to an increased delivery rate, a lubricant-free operation as well as a hundred percent availability are claimed. Increasing performance leads to high stresses that can result to mechanical or thermal failure of plastic components in the conveying system, if incorrectly designed. While mechanical failure can be avoided with up to date dimensioning, there is no sufficiently precise dimensioning criterion in regard to thermal failure.
The present thesis is concerning with the thermal analysis of sliding chain conveyor systems as well as the thermoplastic plastic-plastic sliding pairs used therein. In this regard, the sliding contacts of a sliding chain conveyor and their loads are analyzed. By abstraction of the chain–rail system, a semi-analytical model for estimating the frictional temperature is developed, which is verified by experimental studies on a tribo test bench and a conveyor system. From the study results, a thermal dimensioning criterion for plastic plastic pairings could be derived, which can be applied to sliding chain conveyor as well as perspectivly similar tribological systems.

Functional proof of a flat slide valve as a 4/3-way proportional valveAengenheister, Stefan, Liu, Chao, Broeckmann, Christoph, Schmitz, Katharina 25 June 2020 (has links)
With a flat slide valve concept, when compared to conventional piston spool valves, reduced leakage and increased service life could be achieved. In order to achieve a reduction of leakage flows and guarantee the adjustability of the valves at the same time, a correct design of the pressure compensation is essential. The magnitude of force depends on both the operating point of the valve and the position of the slider. Due to the design of the flat slide valve, it is possible to use ceramic semi-finished products for the main stage, which consist of control plates and a slide plate. The geometries are simple enough to be inexpensively manufactured with sufficient accuracy, using a ceramic pre-product using laser cutting technology. This article introduces the concept of the flat slide valve for a proportional 4/3-way valve. The design of the valve, including the design of the metallic main stage is presented. This includes the design of the flow channels, which have to be suitable for ceramic materials. Furthermore the design of the actuator and hydraulic circuit for testing is presented. With the shown design, the function of a 4/3-way valve, known from piston spool valves, can be implemented with a linear behavior between slide plate deflection and opening flow cross section.
