Nilsson, Martina January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to analyze the relations between the use of pace and representation of masculine intimacy. The music video to the song Territory by The Blaze is observed through a gender perspective in a film semiotic analysis. The method involves how intimacy is represented through non-verbal communication. The material will be analyzed through theories involving communication and gender identity to see how it is affected by pace. This leads to the result of a conclusion that slowing down the narrative contributes to a representation of male intimacy to have resemblance to how women are portrayed according to Mulvey’s theories about the Male gaze.

Odeberger, Christopher January 2018 (has links)
Freezing and thawing of spermatozoa are frequently used in the andrology laboratory for assisted reproduction techniques and assessment of spermatozoa. At present, there is no standard on how freezing and thawing of spermatozoa should occur. In this study two different processes are compared; “slow freeze” followed by thawing with G-IVFTM medium, which is used at RMC University Hospital. Cryopreservation with “pellets” followed by thawing with HTF + 10% HSA medium according to Martínez-Soto J C et al. Two different thawing methods are used for each process; first, the spermatozoa are thawed at room temperature for 10 minutes, followed by 10 minutes warming at 37 °C and just before analysis 37 °C medium is added. At the second thawing method, 37 °C medium is added to the sample and stored in a heating chamber, 37 °C for 20 minutes. The study analyzed the effects of spermatozoa motility and vitality. Results show that with “slow freeze” and G-IVFTM there is no significant difference between the two thawing methods for both motility, p-value >0,05 and vitality, p-value >0,05. Comparing with Martínez-Soto J C et al. no difference between motility was shown, p-value >0,05. The study shows a positive effect on vitality compared to Martínez-Soto J C et al, p-value <0,01. The study shows that the use of “slow freeze” with G-IVFTM does not make any difference in motility but has a significant positive effect on the spermatozoa vitality. More studies are necessary to strengthen these results. Overall more research is needed in the area to develop and find a common method.

Feasibility for Use of a Seabed Gallery Intake for the Shuqaiq-II SWRO Facility, Saudi Arabia

Mantilla Calderon, David 04 1900 (has links)
Shuqaiq-II IWP is a combined RO water desalination and power plant facility. It operates with an open intake that feeds the plant with 100,000 m3/h of raw water. The facility is located 140 km north of Jizan, in a small bay where the run-off discharges of two wadis converge. The run-off coming from the wadis are rich in alluvial sediments that dramatically decrease the raw water quality at the intake point, causing periodic shutdowns of the plant and increasing the operational cost due to membrane replacement. Subsurface water intakes are an alternative for improving raw water quality, as they provide natural filtering of the feed water as it flows through the systems. In this type of system water flow through the sediment matrix is induced and during the percolation, several physical, chemical and biological processes take place, cleaning the water from particulate matter, resulting in high quality feed water that can be directly sent to the RO process without any additional pretreatment. A full hydrogeological profile of the seabed needs to be performed in order to determine the applicability of one of these systems in each particular location. In this study, 1 km of beach area at Shuqaiq-II IWP was surveyed. Ninety-one (91) samples from the shore and offshore sediments were collected and analyzed for hydraulic conductivity, porosity and grain size distribution. The laboratory analysis showed that the construction of the seabed galleries was technically feasible, and the proposed intake system was design to meet the feed water requirements for the RO facility (530.000 m3/d). The preliminary design consists of 17 cells in total, 16 of which will be in constant operation, and 1 alternate for whenever maintenance is needed in one of the other cells. The seabed gallery design includes 5 layers of sands with a total depth of 5 m. A detailed underdrain design methodology is presented. The system would be operated at an infiltration rate of 10 m/d and an average hydraulic retention time of 7h. Each cell will have an area of 3.500 m2 that will supply 35.000 m3/d of feed water to each RO train.

Modelování a detekce útoku SlowDrop / Modeling and detection of SlowDrop attack

Mazánek, Pavel January 2020 (has links)
The work's main topic is a recently published slow DoS attack called SlowDrop. The work focuses on the subject of describing the current state of the DoS problem as a whole and the SlowDrop attack as well. It works with this theoretical basis during the implementation of it's own SlowDrop attack model. This model is tested in various scenarios and the outcome results are analyzed and constructively discussed. Furthermore defensive mechanisms against this threat and DoS attacks in general are proposed, specific methods shown and configurations recommended. These methods are followingly tested and evaluated. Last but not least the traffic of a SlowDrop attacker and a legitimate client with bad connection, which the SlowDrop attack is trying to immitate, are compared. From this comparison final conclusions of this work are drawn.

Composants optoélectroniques à faible consommation en III-V sur silicium / III-V on silicon low power consumption optoelectronic devices

Vu, Thi Nhung 18 July 2017 (has links)
Silicon photonics is considered as a promising solution to replace electrical interconnections in the next years. Among the remaining challenges, the driving power of the active devices has to be minimized. Furthermore the use of a common technological platform for the realization of Silicon (Si) photonics passive and active devices would present a great interest in term of fabrication complexity and cost. III-V on Si is a good candidate for such a common technological platform as the physical properties of III-V semiconductors allow for active functionalities such as III-V on Si laser which have already been successfully demonstrated. In this perspective, 2D photonic crystals (PhCs) and slow light structures, which are known to intrinsically reinforce light/matter interactioncan alsobring interesting opportunities. In this context, the work is focused on the design, fabrication and characterization of slow-light III-V- on-silicon electroabsorption modulators. In a first part, the photonic crystal structure and light coupling from silicon waveguide to slowlight III-V waveguide are designed and modeled. The performance of the optimized structure is analyzed, showing a modulator operating at 15 GHz and exhibiting an extinction ratio of more than 5 dB over a spectral range of more than 10 nm, using a 18.75 µ;m-long modulator. Subsequently, the masks and fabrication steps for a hybrid III-V photonic crystalon Si modulators are presented. Finally, the experimental results obtained during this thesis are presented, showing Quantum Confined Stark Effect and photodetection in the waveguide integrated structures. The reported works open perspective towards the integrating of optical modulators with III-V on silicon nanolasers and photodetectors using a single technology.
