Mass produced narratives that have been designed and targeted for predominantly female audiences have been marginalized by dominant culture. Throughout the history of art and English literature, women have been both objectified and misrepresented. All that has been deemed domestic, emotional and of the personal sphere has been declared valueless by patriarchy. The soap opera genre reverses this negative valorization. It is one that perpetuates the feminine tradition of creating communities through words---talk, gossip, testimony. In this work, the American soap opera is discussed as a venue for the exploration of issues that concern women's lives, as a site for the generation of female pleasure, and as the mother of subcultural networks that inform a female community. While the narratives address women's concerns, the soap opera fan magazines and fan clubs celebrate a form that highlights orality, emotion and empathy in a culture that often depreciates them.

One of the main aims of Component adaptation [Szy97] is to help application developers reuse components so that they can plug-in third party components into their application. This research concentrates on this type of adaptation but in the context of Web Services. Web Services are becoming increasingly popular. Web Services often fit the requirements of being a component, and can be reused in a very similar manner. Hence there is a requirement for adaptation of Web Services just as there is the need for adaptation of software components. There are now quite a few adaptation techniques, but few of them have identified adaptation techniques for Web Services. This approach to adaptation allows for the modification of data and behaviour of existing Web Services. The approach to adaptation uses eXtensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) transformation applied to the message passed between Web Services. These messages are commonly in XML format, hence XSL can be used to modify them. The application of the transformation is guided by a specification written in XML. The adaptation is executed by a generic runtime system that uses these specifications which are referred to as Guiding Specifications. This has been demonstrated by way of a motivating real world example implemented on the .Net platform. It is shown how an adapter can be specified using a simplistic Guiding Specification and related XSLT documents. This allows the implementation to work more efficiently than hand coding each adapter. It is the underlying generic runtime support that provides much of this benefit. Component based software engineering (CBSE) constructs applications by assembling components together, CBSE has been of great help to application developers due to the very fact that tailor made components can be purchased from third party vendors and can be plugged-in to a system to form a working application. But in practice 'as-is' reuse is very unlikely to occur, and most components need to be changed in some way to match the requirements of the application architecture and other components. The process of changing thecomponent for use in a particular application is often referred to as Component Adaptation.

Σε αυτή την διπλωματική εργασία θα εξετάσουμε τα web services. Μια σχετικά νέα και αναπτυσσόμενη τεχνολογία. Θα δούμε τι ακριβώς είναι τα web services, θα εξετάσουμε την βασική αρχιτεκτονική τους και κάποια δομικά τους στοιχεία που είναι αρκετά συνήθη πλέον. Θα μιλήσουμε περί XML, WSDL, UDDI, ενώ θα επικεντρωθούμε στα SOAP Web Services. Στην συνέχεια θα τα εξετάσουμε από την πλευρά της ασφάλειας. Σίγουρα το θέμα της ασφάλειας των web εφαρμογών δεν είναι απλό ούτε μπορεί να αναλυθεί επαρκώς σε μερικές σελίδες μονάχα. Ο τομέας της ασφάλειας web εφαρμογών και web services είναι ένας τομέας ο οποίος εξελίσσεται δυναμικά. Πόσο μάλλον ο τομέας των web services, τα οποία εξελίσσονται και αυτά συνεχώς, οπότε αναμενόμενα όσο αναπτύσσονται νέες τεχνολογίες κι εξερευνούνται διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις, συνεχώς ανακαλύπτονται νέες αδυναμίες απ’όπου μπορεί να παραβιαστεί το κάθε σύστημα, η κάθε εφαρμογή και υπηρεσία. Θα δημιουργήσουμε ένα SOAP web service σε PHP πλατφόρμα, μια ελάχιστα διαδεδομένη περίπτωση web service και θα εξετάσουμε τρόπους με τους οποίους μπορούμε να ενισχύσουμε την ασφάλεια και να προστατέψουμε το συγκεκριμένο service. Είναι μια περίπτωση στην οποία δεν μπορούμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε τα διαδεδομένα πρωτόκολλα που έχουν τα web services για την ενίσχυση της ασφάλειάς τους, οπότε θα χρειαστεί να αναζητήσουμε δικούς μας “custom” τρόπους για την διαφύλαξη της ασφάλειας του service μας. / -

The diploma thesis is focused on the design and implementation of the remote access to ERP system QI. The paper explains theoretical basics of the programming applications for Android platform, web services based on the SOAP protocol, the information system QI and development tool QI Builder. On the basis of the requirements the solution of mobile client is designed, implemented and tested. In conclusion, the achieved results are discussed as well as the future possibilities are presented.

Magíster en Ingeniería de Negocios con Tecnologías de Información / Consorcio es uno de los mayores conglomerados financieros del país y la mayor aseguradora del mercado. Entre las filiales dedicadas a los seguros, se encuentra Consorcio generales, la filial encargada de los seguros no-vida. Dentro de esta empresa es que se enmarca el proyecto, intentado potenciar el crecimiento para un producto donde se ve un gran potencial tanto en participación de mercado como en rentabilidad. El objetivo principal del presente proyecto de grado es el aumento del beneficio y marketshare del seguro obligatorio de accidentes personales (SOAP) mediante la implementación de Analítica y la automatización de procesos claves propios de la gestión técnica del producto. Para esto se aplicara la metodología de ingeniería de negocios así como la construcción e implementación de los sistemas TI correspondientes. La estructura del proyecto fue dividida en las siguientes etapas: realización del análisis estratégico de la empresa, luego se desarrolló la arquitectura de Macro procesos propios de Consorcio Seguro Generales, se diseñaron los procesos claves en BPMN, para finalmente diseñar e implementar los sistemas TI necesarios. Entre los procesos claves que fueron rediseñados destacan el cálculo de OYNR, en donde se automatiza el cálculo y se mejora considerablemente el poder de predicción del modelo, además de la segmentación y el pricing para la cartera de clientes, así como la creación de un modelo de clasificación de clientes. Varios resultados relevantes se obtuvieron producto del rediseño y de la implementación de la analítica, por un lado se obtuvo mejoras operacionales en el tiempo de proceso, reducción del orden del 75% y un nuevo modelo de predicción de OYNR con un 93% de efectividad, asimismo se descubrió que variables como la marca del vehículo, su antigüedad o si el seguro fue contratado por una empresa son mejores discriminadores que las variables utilizadas actualmente en la segmentación y pricing. Finalmente la evaluación económica entrega un VAN de 5300 UF con condiciones conservadoras y un horizonte de 3 años. Luego se discuten cuales son algunos de los mayores desafíos posteriores la implementación y las perspectivas para desarrollos futuros.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo convidar o leitor a aguçar o olhar e a escuta para os diálogos que as crianças estabelecem a partir do que assistem nas telenovelas brasileiras, tendo como premissa o fato de que elas assistem a estes programas, porém pouco conversam sobre eles, principalmente com pessoas de outras gerações. A necessidade de refletir sobre esses diálogos é apontada pelas leituras de mundo que as crianças elaboram a partir dessa recepção em relação constante com suas vivências singulares e coletivas. A pesquisa em questão foi realizada com dois grupos focais, formados por crianças de dois ambientes escolares distintos, situados na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, ambos compreendendo sujeitos entre cinco e sete anos, que disseram assistir a estes programas. Além dos diálogos infantis, o presente trabalho conta com a contribuição teórica de Mikhail Bakhtin, Marilia Amorim, Manuel Jacinto Sarmento, Bernadete Gatti, Jesús MartínBarbero, David Buckingham, entre outros, também de relevância contribuição, abordando sobre a história da telenovela e a importância deste gênero narrativo na cultura brasileira; a relação das crianças e das escolas com as mídias eletrônicas; e estratégias metodológicas na busca de uma dialogia atenta, sensível, proveitosa e consciente de suas limitações, diante da subjetividade e da complexidade nas relações estabelecidas com os interlocutores infantis.

In traditional research approaches, soap opera viewing has been studied quantitatively. Such studies ignore the subjectivities, the sociocultural contexts, and life contexts of individual viewers. To account for such shortcomings and to offer a qualitative research approach, an investigation was conducted into the engagement that viewers have with a particular soap opera, The bold and the beautiful. The collective case study research method was used. Three subjects were interviewed using in-depth phenomenological interviewing and the data obtained was subjected to.a hermeneutic method of investigation. This involved using a reading guide that extracted firstly, how pleasure is experienced in soap opera viewing, and secondly how the viewers' interpretations of the soap opera are linked to their everyday life contexts. Pleasure was found to be related to experiencing the soap opera world as real, the social context of the viewer, the openness of the text, selecting textual elements, identification and opening up the viewer's world. The viewers' interpretations were related to their life contexts in terms of the meanings that were constructed around emotions, identities, interpersonal relations and a cultural interface. Most notable for the South African context, is that viewing The bold and the beautiful provides a cultural interface because African identities are brought to this practice.
