Maybe in Post-Modernity we have an emancipatory project that conceives only a “taking the word” of cultures and subcultures renegade by traditional historical process, that was centered in only one ideal: European modern human. Thus, we can talk about how History, while current unitary, came to an end. The reflections from the end of this unity of history are visible in various forms in the present culture; however, the overall process of aestheticization of life certainly means, more evident, the value pluralist today. The general aestheticization of life is not so much “super-aesthetics”, a unique aesthetics that encompasses all the meaning and values, but a multiplicity of aesthetics values, the most varied, that travel the world through sounds and images as objects of information. Hence some relevance characteristic of mass media: apart from a totalitarian cultural component type-approval, the media represent – despite still abide to certain interests of market – a form of mediation between the different cultural “dialectics”, providing a true “adventure of difference”.

Značka produktu jako statusový znak mladých aktérů / Brand product as a symbol of young participants

Haicl, Matouš January 2017 (has links)
This theses Brand product as a symbol of young participants is focused on the phenomenon of brands, which is interpreted through its relation to social status. In the theoretical part of the theses there are two contradictory views discussed (T. Veblen's and G. Lipovetsky's), which provide two different points of view concerning contemporary society and the relation between luxurious goods and social status. Through this discussion the thesis provides the characteritics of youth in the context of its developement during the 20th century. Another discussed topic are marketing techniques focusing on today's young generation. In the research part the author aims to find a connection between luxurious brands consumption and the concept of status among young adults studying Czech high schools. Results did not prove this connection to be very strong, and it seems therefore that Lipovetsky's point of view was the one closer to our analysis.

Geopolitics and discourse, from the first Golf War to the Iraq's occupation (1991-2003)

Howayek, Hayat 11 October 2011 (has links)
Since 1990-1991, the number of satellite channels and viewers has grown exponentially in the Arab world, taking advantage of a geolinguistic space that afforded unprecedented degree of openness in a field previously dominated by t ightly-controlled state-owned television stations. The date also coincides with the inception of the New World Order, the waging of the first Gulf War which established a new regional order, and the stirrings of the society of communication. This study of news channels (Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya) and “flexible” channels such as (Abu Dhabi and Al Manar), aims to examine whether they are an expression of change or adaption and whether they serve to perpetuate the status quo of the powers that fund them.
