Cartographie du féminin dans l'œuvre de Marvel Moreno / Cartography of the feminine in Marvel Moreno's work

Ortega Gonzalez-Rubio, Mercedes 28 September 2011 (has links)
The writing of the Colombian author Marvel Moreno (Barranquilla, 1939-Paris 1995) is framed in a feminist humanist world vision. Nonetheless, it is made of a network of heterogeneous conflictive speeches. In this current work and from a multidisciplinary perspective which integrates mainly literary theory and criticism, sociology of literature and feminist theory, our work explores the representations of the feminine which circulates in Moreno’s work thought three axes: the discourses that run through it, the feminine character’s system and the positioning of the enunciating voices in the literary field. We affirm that without entirely departing a hetero-centered masculinist logic, Moreno’s work moves away from the normative femininity. The ruptures it carries out make her writing, just as the majority of all women authors, unable to find a place in the official and patriarchal canon of literature.

Remembering Jim Crow: The literary memoir as historical source material

Wallach, Jennifer Jensen 01 January 2004 (has links)
This dissertation is a two-fold project. The first half is a methodological examination of how memoirs can be used as instruments of historical understanding. The second half applies this methodology to the study of several memoirs written about life in the American south in the first half of the twentieth century. Memoir is a peculiar genre which straddles the disciplines of literature and history. Currently the field of autobiography studies is dominated by literary critics. However, there is nothing inherent about the genre dictating that this should be the case. This dissertation analyzes memoirs from a historical perspective. I argue that insights drawn from life writing have the potential to greatly enhance our historical understanding. I broach several topics including the problem of defining autobiography, the disciplinary proprietorship of the memoir, the relationship between history and theory, and the linkages between the historical study of memoirs and interdisciplinary conversations about historical memory. I describe the nature of historical reality, arguing that the individual thoughts, emotions, perceptions, and misperceptions of each historical agent are constitutive of the historical reality of a particular moment. Memoirs capture the entire universe as it appeared from one acknowledged perspective. Furthermore, skilled, creative writers are especially adept at capturing the complexity of a past moment. Authors of literary memoirs draw on the aesthetic power of literary language and on literary devices such as metaphor and irony to powerfully portray particular historical moments. I apply these ideas to an examination of memoirs about life in the segregated American south. I analyze memoirs written by African Americans, by whites, by men, by women, and by individuals with various political points of views. I find these accounts bear certain similarities to one another but are often strikingly at odds. Different ideas about the psychological impact of segregation, dissimilar characterizations of the black community, and contrary descriptions of the same moment and the same geographical space reveal that there is no singular Jim Crow experience. Historical reality is multifaceted, and the complexities of individual experiences are best captured in artfully constructed literary memoirs.

Daniel A Carrillo Jara (13174998) 29 July 2022 (has links)

This dissertation proposes a definition and methodology to analyze the literary canon: the canon is the set of producers and products that accumulate the greatest amount of literary capital granted by institutions of consecration. In this concept, two categories are fundamental: literary capital and institutions. Literary capital refers to objectivations of literary value: manifestations of the agreement on the importance of authors and their literary work (inclusions in reading lists, awards and prizes, mentions in literary histories, among others). Institutions are communities that participate in literary activity; they are governed by norms and exercise power over other agents.

This theoretical framework allows for the examination of the canon formation in literary criticism, anthologies, and Wikipedia. The accumulation of capital explains the existence of three positions within the Peruvian literary field: consecrated, legitimized, and aspiring writers. Furthermore, trajectory of capital is a concept that elucidates the changes in literary value. An ascending or descending trajectory shows when a writer's prestige has increased or decreased over time. Institutions located inside or outside the literary field is the basis for positing the difference between prestige and popularity: both concepts have a similar functioning, but literary agents have little or no involvement in the latter.

Figurações da indefinição: a epistemologia travada de Matrix / Figurations of indetermination: jammed epistemology of Matrix

Guirau, Marcelo Cizaurre 09 November 2007 (has links)
In this work, we are going to study the Matrix trilogy from the perspective of figuration. The analysis of the narrative fabric of these movies reveals many failures and inconsistencies. Such failures expose some dilemmas of the experience under the domain of late capitalism. The ambiguity and indetermination zones which we identified in Matrix have led us to think these movies to be an unsolved cognitive effort. This is the jammed epistemology of Matrix, which is going to be analyzed not as a simple diagnosis failure due to the movies\' creator\'s lack of cognitive lucidity, but as a significant example of the exposition of the limits of historical figuration.

Literatura como vocação: escritores brasileiros contemporâneos no pós-redemocratização / Literature as a vocation: Brazilian writers in post-democratization period

Marcello Giovanni Pocai Stella 31 October 2018 (has links)
Objetivando a descrição e compreensão dessa dinâmica elaboramos a tipologia escritores universitário e universitários escritores. / This dissertation seeks to understand the social origins and trajectories of contemporary Brazilian writers of fictional prose (short story, chronicle and novel), which debuted after the end of the Brazilian military dictatorship. It was taken for the time frame 1988, which marks through the new constitutional charter the guarantee of freedom of expression and put an end to the possibility of prior censorship. From this, several surveys of morphological characteristics of the authors were carried out on web pages of publishers from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, for instance: Companhia das Letras, Cosac Naify, Editora 34, Boitempo, Patuá, Ofício das Palavras, 7 Letras, Record and Rocco. With data of socioeconomic profile of the authors i have proceeded to interviews and later analysis of the paths of construction of a trajectory that aims to reach the status of writer. From this it was necessary to think about the social position of writer in Brazil and its socio-genesis, as well as the emergence of the professional development of the various activities linked to literature: publishing, agency, criticism, etc. The focus on the professionalization of literature and its producers led to the formulation of a hypothesis that relates this process to an increasing influence of economic logics in the literary field. An expressive example of how it appears in the literary field is the trajectory of Milton Hatoum and the game of tensions and disputes around its construction as an author of the erudite pole, but at the same a writer that must increasingly adopt strategies of consecration of the pole of great circulation. Another development is the emergence of a group of authors refugees in university careers, when they cant afford a career dedicated only to literature, as well as the investment of several authors in other cultural texts (comics, audiovisual, theater, etc.), to make possible a life more dedicated to literature. In the first case, the university protects writers from an increasingly crowded market, and in the second case writers adhere to market promotion strategies in order to remain visible and viable. Aiming at the description and understanding of this dynamics we elaborate the typology writers-universitarian and universitarian-writers. The work was based on Pierre Bourdieu\'s field theory, and focused on the literary field the restricted (autonomous) production pole of literature.

Sagan om de klanlösa : En studie av små förlag och deras position på den svenska fantastikmarknaden / The Clanless : A Study of Minor Publishers on the Swedish Market of Fantastic Fiction

Liedberg, Malin January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study the market for fantastic fiction in Sweden, focusing on the minor publishers and their relationship with the three major publishing groups. The fantastic fiction in Swedish today are generally dominated by bestselling anglo-american authors, especially at the major publishers. The selection of fantastic fiction that is not originally in English and that diverges from the classic, epic high fantasy is often provided by minor publishers. By researching the range of fantastic fiction in Sweden today, and combining that research with qualitative interviews with informants from five minor publishers and Sweden's largest book shop for fantastic fiction, I wish to examine if the minor publishers provide an important alternative for Swedish readers of fantastic fiction. I also intend to investigate whether those publishers actively try to broaden the Swedish market and if they see themselves as a complement and an alternative rather than competing with the major publishers. This is a study in sociology of literature, focusing on a literary genre that is generally regarded as popular or trivial literature. Therefore, this thesis also discusses the curcuit of popular literature and the position and conditions of fantastic fiction in Sweden today, using the french sociologist Pierre Bourdieu's frameworks and terminology regarding economical and cultural capital. Fantastic fiction is a genre normally associated with economical rather than cultural capital, a notion that greatly affects its position and status in the world of literature.

Bloom, Karin January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to conduct a study of the history of the girls’ magazine Cordelia (1881–1942), founded in Florence by Angelo De Gubernatis. The analysis mainly focuses on the years 1881–1917; however, the latter period is also briefly treated. The theoretical framework consists of sociology of literature and gender history; the dissertation belongs to the field of history of publishing, which is integrated with a gender historical perspective. The methodological challenges faced when dealing with periodicals as research objects are also considered. In order to achieve bibliographic control and examine Cordelia’s contents and contributors, all issues of the magazine’s first 36 years were indexed. The study examines the commercial strategies of the magazine’s publishers, as well as the contributions of the chief editors and writers involved in the making of the magazine. Attention is drawn to the personal relationships between the individuals in these groups. As is shown, the magazine was not very successful in its first three years of publication, during the editorship of De Gubernatis. The two editors who followed, Ida Baccini and Jolanda (pseudonym for Maria Maiocchi Plattis), did succeed, however, in creating a familiar and attractive product for the young female public and to involve them in their magazine. Quantitative surveys of the contributors and contents have shown, for instance, that Baccini and Jolanda relied on regular contributions from relatively few writers and also published serial fiction to arouse the readers’ interest. Their comprehension of the potential of the periodical and the importance of their gender in addressing their readers, together with the capacity of long-time publisher Cappelli to develop commercial strategies to boost sales, seem to have been the reason for the longevity and success of Cordelia.

(Po)sovietinė rusų poezija Lietuvoje: literatūrinio elgesio strategijos / (Post)Soviet Russian Poetry in Lithuania: Strategies of Literary Praxis

Laukkonėn, Taisija 07 November 2012 (has links)
Disertacijoje iš literatūros sociologijos perspektyvos, remiantis Pierre’o Bourdieu ir Pascale Casanovos darbais, tiriama iki šiol nenagrinėta Lietuvos rusų literatūra sovietmečiu bei posovietmečiu. Susitelkiama į poeziją, kuri aptariamu laikotarpiu vyrauja kiekybiškai. Lietuvos rusų literatūra laikoma iš dalies savarankišku literatūros lauko segmentu, kurio ypatybės išryškėja santykiuose su nacionaliniais lietuvių ir rusų literatūros laukais bei tarptautine literatūros erdve. Segmento struktūra, raida ir ryšiai su nacionaliniais laukais atskleidžiami analizuojant individualias bei kolektyvines lauko dalyvių strategijas. Pastarųjų polinkis pabrėžti mažumos ar diasporos tapatybę aiškėja iš skirtingus lauko polius reprezentuojančių leidinių: sovietmečiu – cenzūruoto almanacho-žurnalo Literatūrinė Lietuva ir savilaidos almanacho Saviems; posovietmečiu – Lietuvos rašytojų sąjungos žurnalo Vilnius ir interneto projekto Indoeuropietiškasis diktantas. Individualios skirtingų kartų poetų strategijos, interpretuojamos kaip pralaimėjimo (Jurijus Dubasovas, Jurijus Grigorjevas, Michailas Didusenko) ir sėkmės siužetai (Jurijus Kobrinas, Georgijus Jefremovas, Lena Eltang), atskleidžia ne tik užimtas padėtis, bet ir segmento galimybių erdvės ypatumus. Sovietmečiu galimybių erdvė buvo apribota vienakrypčio literatūrinio tarpininkavimo vaidmeniu. Atgimimo laikotarpiu ir ypač atkūrus Nepriklausomybę padėčių repertuaras platėjo, tačiau istoriškai sąlygota segmento struktūra buvo nepalanki... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / This dissertation makes use of Pierre Bourdieu’s and Pascale Casanova’s theoretical work to analyse the hitherto unexplored Soviet and post-Soviet Russian literature in Lithuania through the methodological lens of the sociology of literature. The research focuses on the poetry that dominated the literary scene within the specified time frame. The Russian literature of Lithuania is examined as a partly independent segment of the literary field, whose characteristics unfold through its relationships with the national fields of Lithuanian and Russian literature as well as the global space of literature. The structure and development of this segment and its relations to the national literary fields are analysed by way of exploring the individual and collective strategies of the agents of this segment. The publications which represent the different poles in the literary field tend to emphasise the minority or diasporic identity associated with this segment: during the Soviet times – Literary Lithuania, a journal-almanach censored by the Soviet ideology and the Samisdat almanach For One’s Own; after the fall of the Soviet Union – Vinius, a journal published by the Lithuanian Writers’ Union and the online project The Indoeuropean Dictation. The individual strategies of the poets of different generations, which are interpreted as respectively stories of failure (Jurij Dubasov, Jurij Grigorjev, Mikhail Didusenko) and success (Jurij Kobrin, Georgij Jefremov, Lena Eltang) reveal not...
