A Study of Sociometric Perception as Related to Several Other Sociometric Variables

Mathews, Theodore William January 1955 (has links)
The intent in formulating this study was to examine social perception, as related to several sociometric variables. By social perception is meant the ability of an individual to estimate correctly the feelings of his associates toward him, in terms of their desiring or not desiring him as a close friend.

Psychological Sex and Sociometric Nomination

Holcomb, Ernest Eugene 06 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of the psychological sex role of a person making sociometric nominations to the psychological sex role of such persons nominated. It was hypothesized that similar psychological and biological sexed persons would choose each other as friends and that similar psychological but opposite biological sexed persons would reject each other as non-friends.

Construction problems of criminological indicators and comparative situation of femicide in Peru / Problemas de construcción de indicadores criminológicos y situación comparada del feminicidio en el Perú

Mujica, Jaris, Tuesta, Diego 25 September 2017 (has links)
Like other countries in the region, femicide—the gender-based murdering of women—has been incorporated into Peruvian law as a criminal offense. This inclusion is the result of the government and civil society organizations interest in producing policies aimed at reducing gender-based violence, and it has emerged as a result of a debate regarding «the increase in femicide» and the systematic appearance of media stories and official reports warning of an exponential growth. This article focuses upon the problem of femicide in Peru through a comparative approach. The aim is to account for the incidence of femicide in sociometric terms and demonstrate that this is not a phenomenon of exponential growth in epidemiological terms. This is achieved through the recognition of two issues: on the one hand, the way indicators are produced for criminal record figures and the ways these are measured; and on the other hand, through recognition of the importance of the significance of this phenomenon within a more complex and broader structure of violence.

Life-Style Themes of Women Who Emerge as Leaders in Small Group Settings

Gray, Virginia C. 05 1900 (has links)
This study investigated the effects of personality characteristics on emergent leadership in small group settings. Two instruments were used to assess personality factors: The BASIS-A and the California Personality Inventory (CPI). A sociometric tool was developed to elicit leader ranking of female group members. The BASIS-A, was used to test for Taking Charge and Wanting Recognition lifestyles in women who emerged as leaders. The CPI was used to assess female emergent leaders for Dominance and Leadership Potential. The two instruments and a sociometric form were distributed to 115 female graduate counselor-in-training students the last week of their group counseling experience. This survey resulted in 55 respondents (N=55) from eleven discussion groups. It was expected that women who had the highest averaged leader rank would demonstrate higher test scores in Dominance, Leadership Potential, Taking Charge, and Wanting Recognition than women who received a lower averaged leader rank. It was also thought that these four test factors would be highly related. If so, a case would be made to use the BASIS-A as an emergent leader assessment tool because it is consistently based in one psychological theory. No significant effect was found between the highest leader rank and three of the test measures: Dominance, Leadership Potential, and Taking Charge. Using four one-way ANOVAs, a significant effect was found between highest leader rank and Wanting Recognition. This demonstrated that individuals high in interpersonal caution, empathy, and with a need to succeed emerged as leaders. Possible explanations for this finding were discussed. Significant relationships were found using the Pearson-r correlation statistic between three of the four test variables. From the CPI, the Dominance and Leadership Potential scales were highly correlated to the BASIS-A Taking Charge life-style. The BASIS-A Wanting Recognition lifestyle was not related to either Dominance or Leadership Potential. Unexpectedly, a significant relationship was found in this population between Wanting Recognition and Taking Charge. Perhaps due to the limited inter-correlational analysis and small sample, these research results did not support using the BASIS-A as a sole emergent leader assessment. More research is needed before such a case can be made.

The Effects of Classroom Management Techniques of Students' Choice Status and Self Concepts

Shaw, Calvin C. 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects that certain classroom management techniques would have on the self concepts and choice status of sixth grade students and to assess the potential of these techniques. All sixth grade students (86) enrolled in one elementary school participated in this study. There were four class sections, two of which made up the experimental group and two of which made up the control group. Only those students who were enrolled at the beginning of the study were included in the final data analysis. The IPAT Children's Personality Questionnaire, What You Do and What You Think (1963) provided a measurement of self concept. This instrument was reported to be a standardized self evaluation scale that assessed fourteen factors of personality. The sociometric test of specific criteria was used to identify students of low choice status. These two instruments were administered in January of 1972 and again in May of 1972.

Peer Acceptance, Mathematics Achievement, and Birth Order Among Fifth-Grade Students

Gerhardt, Vicki 08 1900 (has links)
This study investigated relationships involving peer acceptance, mathematics achievement, and birth order among 74 fifth-grade students. The children were administered a standardized achievement test and a sociometric measurement in one sitting. They were then listed in rank order on the basis of number of choices received for each of two areas-- Social- and Work-acceptance. A comparison of High and Low Social- and Work-acceptance groups in terms of mean mathematics-achievement scores indicated a significant positive interaction between peer acceptance and mathematics achievement. No significant difference was evidenced between mean mathematics-achievement scores of males and females. As expected, birth order was not shown to interact significantly with Social- or Work-acceptance for either sex. Results indicate the importance of utilizing various techniques such as sociometrically determined work groups and seating arrangements in order to improve the peer climate of the classroom.

Vývoj postavení studentů ve třídě na střední škole a užívání vybraných návykových látek v průběhu jejich studia: prospektivní sociometrická studie / The development of students status in secondary school class and the use of selected drugs during their study: a prospective sociometric study

Pavelková, Iveta January 2015 (has links)
Název: The Development of Students Status in Secondary School Class and the Use of Selected Drugs During Their Study: a Prospectve Sociometric Study. Abstrakt: The thesis is a continuation of author's bachelor thesis. Bachelor thesis deals with sociometric student's status and substance use among first year of secondary schools students. Both research are based on the theories of drug addiction development, which has very complex causes and occurs during human development in the interaction of multiple factors. One of these factors is the need to achieve social conformity (mainly in peer collectives), which can be in a group of teenage students strong in period of secondary school. Because there are these individuals creates a new position in a class and that can vary because of natural variations in the status of students and interactions among individuals in the classroom. The aim is to implement prospective sociometric study, which examines a specific classes after a 2 year interval and to determine the student status in specific classes of third grade secondary schools and how has this position changed since the last survey. The focus is set on the description of changing relations between cigarette, alcohol, cannabis use and individual student status in the class. The survey was carried out in seven...

Such reasons help to enhance the importance of internal controls for risk management, compliance activities (verification of legal conformity) and internal auditing. To meet such a goal, many control structures for assisting professionals in the evaluation of foreseen risks, as well as the risks associated with those, were introduced in local or international limits. Concerning this context, the aim of this work was to describe some of the scientific production features regarding internal control and risk management, published in the data base ProQuest ABI/Inform Global (ProQuest), from 2000 to 2010. It was a descriptive research, of the survey kind, and it was based in bibliographic and documental investigation, with quantitative approach. In the first step, it was made a bibliographic analysis with a sample of 79 articles, published in 15 local magazines in ProQuest, by means of the Lotka and Bradford Laws. Through the application of the Bradford Law, it was possible to identify the themes of the publication categories concerning the subject. Furthermore, the verification of the Lotka Laws demonstrated that there is not yet a group of expert researchers about the researched subject, and the knowledge is still spread among a lot of authors who have not been publishing so much. The results indicate an expressive increase in the publication of articles from 2003 to 2010, as well as the prevalence of publications concerning Rules and Standards. Those were bigger from 2006 to 2010, especially in The Accounting Review magazine, which shows that researchers have an investigative opportunity. It was also revealed that there has been an increase in the author's publications from 2003 to 2010, and the prevalence of the publications of authors connected with American universities from 2000 to 2010. In the second step, the surveyed articles were submitted to a sociometric analysis, which showed an increase of relational ties in the cooperative relationship between authors, especially concerning triads, from 2000 to 2010. Moreover, it was revealed the fragmentation of such relationships in small groups, with prevalence of stronger nodes between authors, which does not feature small worlds / As decis??es, atividades e opera????es empreendidas pelos gestores de riscos nas organiza????es d??o lugar a v??rias ??reas de incerteza, as quais podem decorrer da aplica????o da legisla????o ou de fatores particulares.
