Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento CientÃfico e TecnolÃgico / The obtainment of information through the research has been decisive to provide technological support to sunflowers culture development, granting better productivities and economical incomes. Among the various technologies developed to sunflowers production, the adequate choice of cultivars constitutes one of the main components in the system of culture production. Considering the existence of the interaction genotypes x environment, researches are required, aiming to determine the agronomic behavior of genotypes and their adaptation to different environment conditions. Based on these principles, there were developed four experiments in CapitÃo PoÃo City, in Parà State, in Brazil, with two sunflower cultivars, Embrapa â 122 and Catissol. On experiment I, sunflower cultivarsâ plastochron was determined, sowed in two seasons in the year. On experiment II, the effect of different water slides over the productive behavior of sunflower cultivars was evaluated, which were cultivated in protected behavior, aiming to define criteria to irrigation handling. On experiment III, there were evaluated seven doses of boron (10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg, 50 mg, 60 mg, 70 mg plant-1) and a witness, on the growing characteristics and on sunflower plants production. And on Experiment IV, the objective was to verify the relative content of water, the concentrations of total soluble amino acids, of total soluble proteins, of free ammoniums, deprolina and the activity of nitrate reductase, in sunflower leaves, in function of two cultivars and of different water slides. Through the obtained results, it was concluded that: the sowing seasons, the sub periods of vegetative development and the cultivars, possess different rights over the plastochron in sunflowers, with variations of 14,6 to 8787,0 ÂC day knot-1; the cultivar Catissol obtained values of mass of dried matter from the aerial part, mass of dried matter from the flower and the flower diameter responded in a linear way to the water slides. The variables, production, mass of 100 achenes and the number of leaves, were optimized by small doses of boron; and, finally, the applied water slides influenced on the concentrations of amino acids, protein, proline, relative content of water and on the activity of nitrate reductase, on sunflower leaves, as the genetic material in studies, presented different results, to these variables, excepting for the activity of nitrate reductase. Therefore, it was realized that sunflowers make mechanisms of osmotic adjustment in leaves, to tolerate various situations of humidity of water in the soil / A obtenÃÃo de informaÃÃes por meio da pesquisa tem sido decisiva para dar suporte tecnolÃgico ao desenvolvimento da cultura do girassol, garantindo maiores produtividades e retornos econÃmicos.

Study of a classical bilayer system of charged magnetic dipoles

Igor Rochaid Oliveira Ramos 05 August 2010 (has links)
A energia do sistema à devido à interaÃÃo carga - carga (interaÃÃo coulom- biana) e a interaÃÃo dipolo - dipolo. / We study the structural and dynamical properties of a two-dimensional (2D) classical bi-layer crystal of charged magnetic dipolar particles in a setup where the dipoles are oriented perpendicular to the layers and equal density of charged dipolar particles in each layer. The energy of the system is due to the charge - charge interaction (Coulomb interaction) and the dipole - dipole interaction. Due to the long-range nature of the interactions, we use the Ewald summation method to obtain an expression for the energy involving rapidly convergent sums. By comparing the energies of a number of possible crystal geometries, we determine the phase diagram of the system as a function of the parameter η (which is related to the separation between the layers of charged magnetic dipoles and the particle density) and the relative intensity of the magnetic and electrical interactions. By changing the relative intensity of the dipole - dipole interaction with respect to electrical one, we are able to find six diferent stable crystalline structures as a function of η. An interesting feature of the present model system is the possibility to tune between the matched and staggered arrangements by varying the magnetic interaction between the dipoles, e.g. through an external magnetic field. The phase boundaries of the crystalline structures consist of both continuous and discontinuous transitions. In order to investigate the stability of the minimum energy arrangements we also calculate the phonon spectra of the system within the harmonic approximation. In this case, we resort again on the Ewald technique to obtain the rapidly convergent sums. The analysis of the phonon spectra reveals interesting features which are useful in the study of melting.

The Neck Hammock : A First-Person Soma Design Project on the Experience of Rocking

Kidder-Wolff, Aidan January 2022 (has links)
Aesthetics in design are often subjective because definitions of the qualities of interaction differ. Some aesthetics, however, can be distinctly shown with body movement, perhaps offering a more concrete method to communicate experience. This thesis explores a first-person understanding, as a dancer and masseuse, of pleasant passive rocking. It then documents the design process of an artefact capable of conveying the same experience. Rocking was chosen due to personal history and interest in how it can be shown explicitly using the body, unlike many other aesthetics. Using first-person Soma Design methods, this process began with brainstorming attributes of rocking and later utilized defamiliarization through Feldenkrais-inspired activities. With the newfound understanding of rocking, a shape-changing neck pillow named the Neck Hammock was created to evoke a dancer’s and masseuse’s rocking. Quantitative exploration of the Neck Hammock movement placed rocking along a spectrum of experience, and also revealed that the deeply introspective experience can result in vivid mental visualizations of past lived experiences. These visualizations made categorizing a session with the Neck Hammock simple, as successful trials evoked memories of hammocks, rocking chairs, etc. This suggests that individual responses to the Neck Hammock will be unique based upon the user’s past associations with rocking, though general qualities like pleasantness ought to remain. While many trials conveyed rocking, few aligned perfectly with the targeted pleasant passive rocking. The trials that were successful and caused a mental visualization had significant emotional impact and sometimes caused long-lasting full body experiences.

Designing for Musical Bodies : An Exploration of the Musician–Instrument Relationship

Grimstad Bang, Tove January 2021 (has links)
Drawing on phenomenology and the theory of embodied music cognition, and the idea that music is movement and the way we experience music is related to movement and to our bodies, the design and conception of a musical instrument is carried out through a soma design process, with the non-dualistic body at center. In addition to the use of design fiction as a means to imagine new design possibilities, practical somaesthetics are a part of the design process through the bodily practices of Dalcroze eurhythmics and instrument defamiliarisation. These continuous bodily practices provide space for explorations of musical, aesthetic sensitivities and contribute to the designer's attuning to their own body and discoveries of musical sensitivities therein. The experiential qualities of music--movement related rhythm and repetition are identified, and reflected in the design of the musical instrument. While interacting with the instrument does not necessarily provide direct immersion into those experiential qualities, nor an intimate musician--instrument relationship, it might however, open up a fertile breeding ground for new design directions and make space for new experiences. The design process itself, leading up to the instrument, was a great contribution to making room for exploring interactions with the body, movement and music.

Sensorial Pads: Awareness of muscle and skin movements on the breast through looking and feeling

Yang, Yujie January 2020 (has links)
Breast awareness is a topic related to women's daily life. The purpose of this project is to explore the behaviors of knowing breasts from the perspective of women themselves, intending to design body experiences that facilitate the awareness of breast muscles and skin movements. The thesis begins with early-stage explorations of the meanings and methodologies of breast awareness and illustrates the entire process from preliminary research to prototyping procedure. Concepts and design methods of soma design are used to explore what kinds of interactions could be outlined in the breast sensing journey. The research process and design results propose new ways of interaction design for breast awareness, exploring the application of new material properties in soma design and breast knowing approaches. As the outcome, Sensorial Pads are made out of silicone, intending to emphasize skin tactile feeling and visual interaction for breast cognition.

Breathe Like a Singer : Facilitating singers’ breath practice with a wearable haptic garment

von Heijne, Lovisa January 2022 (has links)
There has been a recent increase in breathing as an activity within HCI; however, breathing as the source of voice has not been explored. This thesis explores how ADA (air-driven actuator), a haptic wearable garment, may be used by singers to connect with their breath. Primarily through first-person engagement with vocal training and first-person evaluation of ADA’s capability to support vocal practice, the thesis addresses how the garment functionally and experientially supports singers’ movements. Thematic analysis results in two main lines of functional use (demonstrations, and prompts), and engagement with the garment in these two usages builds three conceptualizations of how ADA can align with a singer’s breath (through posture adjustments, inhalation as expansion, and inhalation as tension). Further thematic analysis shows how users characterize experiences with ADA as distinguished by anticipation or layering, offering insight into what experimental qualities underlie the functional use of ADA. The thesis highlights implications for future generative work in the breathing design space, offering tension-release as a breath representation, and a suggestion to explore exhalation duration as a breath parameter through the prolongations of exhalations in singing. Furthermore, it highlights layering as a quality that may be of relevance to further development of ADA, or other experience-oriented technology that aims to support movement practice.
