Biblioteca Pública en San Juan de Lurigancho / Public Library in San Juan de Lurigancho

Aquino Vega, Luis Angel 16 September 2019 (has links)
The San Juan de Lurigancho Public Library has as emphasis the perception of the limits (the relation between the architecture and the streets). This project aims to give an alternative solution to the architectonical problem which is the limit. The problem is defined as the user’s perception of the public space, the one that displays the indifferent character of the city on the user’s necessities. The typology emerges as the solution to the emphasis. The library is thought as a diffusion medium of information and attraction to the people. The public character has a direct relationship with the kind of user that would be ideal for this institution as San Juan de Lurigancho has one of the highest numbers in analphabetism and poverty in the city of Lima. This is the reason why this district conditions the necessity of the proposed infrastructure. The proposal of this thesis was born while searching for a solution to a real problem, the relationship between a project and its surroundings. It shows the interaction that can happen between the architecture and the user’s perception. / Tesis

O Espaço público contemporâneo : a complexidade vista a partir de parques urbanos de Porto Alegre

Souza, Felipe Silveira de January 2008 (has links)
This work aims at comprehending the transformation processes of public spaces in our contemporaneous society. Within such a context, the investigation took place in three urban parks of Porto Alegre, in an attempt to exhibit their origins, features, differences and similarities, with an emphasis on production (or not) of sociabilities. Taking this sense into consideration, the study has Edgar Morin’s “Paradigm of Complexity” as its framework, having in mind the rupture of disjunctive and reductionist mechanisms. The survey over the processes occurring in public spaces was transformed into a multidimensional aspect. The public space is seen, in our research, beyond the originary political dimensions, pointing out the transformations which resulted from an increased density of interactions with other dimensions, such as the economical and cultural ones. In relation to this context, our study intended to scrutinize the management of public spaces and the contact between the civil society and State, as well as analyse the transformation processes of usage value of the given space in terms of exchange value. From the examination of this scene of interactions it is made possible to observe in the urban parks of our cities the (non) production of sociabilities, where the public spaces lead to gatherings but, a the same time, disbandings. At the end of this work, the matter of democracy (together with complexity) is discussed as a way of promoting the construction of a public space as close as possible to the ideal condition.

Assessing Ankara Metropolitan Municipality

Yalcinkaya, Ozlem 01 February 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Public spaces play essential roles in urban life for the city, the public and individuals, by setting strong relations between urban space and social and cultural values. Public spaces and their essential components have multi-dimensional impacts on people. Public art, as a constituent of public space, includes a wide range of artworks, activities and outcomes, contributing to the significance of the places in a variety of ways. However, each culture, country and city, has diverse policies and outcomes of public art based on different perspectives. Focusing on the public art policies in Ankara over the last two decades, this thesis seeks to examine how far the recent policies have contributed to the city. By carrying out in-depth investigation on the public art work interventions and policies of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, the thesis assesses the multi-dimensional contributions of these policies and interventions. It seeks to discuss how far the public artwork policies of localities are crucial for creating genuine public spaces of cities.

Městská knihovna v Přerově / City Library of Přerov

Ptačin, Ján January 2012 (has links)
The new public library building needs to meet a lot of diverse demands. It has to be developed in conjunction with librarian's needs, it has to react on existing urban conditions and it needs to be self-defining and future oriented, so it will be able to cope with radical changes in the communications we experience nowadays. Our proposition is a reaction to the impulses of the site combined with our view of what a new library should represent. It is: communication, interaction, inspiration. We try to eliminate negative aspects of the selected site and on the other hand, use and develop existing potential. The building tries to terminate the big crossroads next to the site and on the contrary to create a nice quiet public space with the church. It also wants to be a new landmark and icon of the town. The solution we found is based on two main principles. A fence. And a hill. Fence as a guard and prevention from crossroads, as a closure of the urban block and public space with green and church building inside, as a boarder with the industrial part of the town, as a show-off wall, a allure to the world of wisdom and quiet public space behind... It is represented by double glass facade along the border of the site. Hill as an activator of the site, as an icon and a brand of the place, as a second hill in whole town, as an island and oasis, as a place for sport, play, as an open public reading room, as a natural amphitheatre... It consists of a simple green roof raising from the church towards the sky, covering the library buiding.

Občanská žurnalistika a komunitní média: teoretické předpoklady a praktické uplatnění občanů ve veřejném mediálním prostoru / Citizen journalism - an alternative form of civic participation in creation of on-line media content

Ročková, Daniela January 2013 (has links)
The key approach of this thesis is to define closer discourse and importance of civic engagement in the media from the point of view of journalistic practice. This study examines trends of citizen journalism and community media that support active citizen participation and contribute to diversity of media content. The vision of traditional journalism disruption and enforcement of news agenda focusing on public interest became the key message of alternative media. The first two chapters concentrate on the origins of public interest involvement in the history of media discourse. They also highlight the alternative journalism characteristics, its current typology and the role of citizens supporting the concept of media democratization. They also specify the character of transformation of on-line professional journalism and its relationship to user-generated content in journalistic practices. Further four chapters determine specific demonstrations of citizen engagement in public media space and its concepts - public journalism, citizen journalism and community media. These chapters refer to characteristic of these phenonenons, they evaluate their contribution to the public life, concrete performance and practical applications abroad and in the Czech Republic. They also mention the key critical...

Planning Practices of Greening : Challenges for Public Urban Green Space

Littke, Helene January 2016 (has links)
Public urban green spaces are crucial parts of cities due to the many connections existing between urban greenery and well-being. Additionally, public urban green space represents a wide range of spatial concepts, such as parks, urban forests, commons, in-between-spaces, and gardens. This study explores challenges for contemporary public urban green space in an increasingly urban world, with high demands on urban growth, and simultaneously the need for more sustainable societies and cities. The aim is to problematize the complex reality for contemporary public urban green space from an urban planning perspective in times of urban densification strategies, global competitiveness between cities and trends of ‘re-naturing’. The scope of this thesis is based on four high profile case studies. The Green Walkable City in Stockholm and The Green Living Spaces in Birmingham constitute planning strategies with a holistic approach to urban green space, including a strong focus on well-being. The High Line in New York and Parklets in San Francisco represent urban green space concepts, influential both at the local level and in the larger urban planning debate. The results point to a need to acknowledge the complexity inherent to urban green space provision, design, and management. This study contributes with insights of direct connections between narratives of nature, materialized urban greenery projects and conceptualizations of functionality of nature in urban planning projects. From the post-industrial, pristine flirting, crafted wilderness of the High Line; a symbolic but cosmetic scrambling with planters and narratives of parks of parklets; dualistic argumentations of natural values connected to quality over quantity of nature in a densifying and growing Stockholm; to pragmatic yet emotional and ambitious conceptualizations of human nature in biohilic urbanism and green space planning in Birmingham. Gentrification, publicness and production of public space and densification strategies are central themes in urban studies – and public urban green space can play an active role in these processes. /
QC 20160518
