AUDIO SCENE SEGEMENTATION USING A MICROPHONE ARRAY AND AUDITORY FEATURESUnnikrishnan, Harikrishnan 01 January 2010 (has links)
Auditory stream denotes the abstract effect a source creates in the mind of the listener. An auditory scene consists of many streams, which the listener uses to analyze and understand the environment. Computer analyses that attempt to mimic human analysis of a scene must first perform Audio Scene Segmentation (ASS). ASS find applications in surveillance, automatic speech recognition and human computer interfaces. Microphone arrays can be employed for extracting streams corresponding to spatially separated sources. However, when a source moves to a new location during a period of silence, such a system loses track of the source. This results in multiple spatially localized streams for the same source. This thesis proposes to identify local streams associated with the same source using auditory features extracted from the beamformed signal. ASS using the spatial cues is first performed. Then auditory features are extracted and segments are linked together based on similarity of the feature vector. An experiment was carried out with two simultaneous speakers. A classifier is used to classify the localized streams as belonging to one speaker or the other. The best performance was achieved when pitch appended with Gammatone Frequency Cepstral Coefficeints (GFCC) was used as the feature vector. An accuracy of 96.2% was achieved.

The social identities in talk can not be estabilisched a priori but are negociated by the participants during the course of interaction. The results of this research suggest that the previous knowledge displayed by the students is a relevant identity attribute in this context; however, it does not garantee that those students would not negociate insecurity features in their own language. Even though, it seems that the negative identity attributes are not reinforced by the other participants of interaction in the classroom, once the dialect speakers display active participation in the classroom tasks and they are seen as diligent students by teachers and classmates.

As técnicas utilizadas são Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) e Vector Quantization (VQ). / This work deals with the application of recent technologies related to the promising research domain of Intelligent Computing (IC) and to the traditional Digital Signal Processing area. This work aims to apply both technologies in a Voice Processing specific application which is the speaker recognition task. Many security control applications can be supported by speaker recognition technology, both in identification and verification of different speakers. The speaker recognition process can be divided into two main phases: basic characteristics extraction from the voice signal and classification. In the extraction phase, one proposed goal was the application of recent advances in DSP theory to the problem approached in this work. In this context, the fundamental frequency and the formant frequencies were employed as parameters to identify the speaker. The first one was obtained through the use of autocorrelation and the second ones were obtained through Fourier transform. These parameters were extracted from the portion of speech where the vocal tract presents a coarticulation between two voiced sounds. This approach is used to extract the characteristics of this apparatus vocal changing. In this work, the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) ANN architecture was investigated in conjunction with the backpropagation learning algorithm. In this sense, some main characteristics extracted from the signal (voice) were used as input parameters to the ANN used. The output of MLP, trained previously with the speakers features, returns the authenticity of that signal. Tests were performed with 10 different male speakers, whose age were in the range from 18 to 24 years. The results are very promising. In this work it is also presented an approach to implement a speaker recognition system by applying conventional methods to the speaker classification process. The methods used are Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) and Vector Quantization (VQ).

Identifikace mluvčího v temporální doméně řeči / Speaker identification in the temporal domain of speechWeingartová, Lenka January 2015 (has links)
This thesis aims to thoroughly describe the temporal characteristics of spoken Czech by means of phone durations and their changes under the influence of several prosodic and segmental factors, such as position in a higher unit (syllable, word or prosodic phrase), length of the higher unit, segmental environment, structure of the syllable or phrase-final lengthening. The speech material comes from a semi-spontaneous corpus of scripted dialogues comprising 4046 utterances by 34 speakers. The descriptions are afterwards used for the creation of a rule-based temporal model, which provides a baseline for analysing local articulation rate contours and their speaker-specificity. The results indicate, that systematic speaker-specific differences can be found in the segmental domain, as well as in the temporal contours. Moreover, speaker identification potential of articulation rate and global temporal features is also assessed. / The huge amount of multimedia content accumulated daily has demanded the development of effective retrieval approaches. In this context, speaker recognition tools capable of automatically identifying a person through their voice are of great relevance. This work presents a novel speaker recognition approach modelled as a retrieval scenario and using recent unsupervised learning methods. The proposed approach considers Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) and Perceptual Linear Prediction Coefficients (PLPs) as features along with multiple modelling approaches, namely Vector Quantization, Gaussian Mixture Models and i-vector to compute distances among audio objects. Next, rank-based unsupervised learning methods are used for improving the effectiveness of retrieval results and, based on a K-Nearest Neighbors classifier, an identity decision is taken. Several experiments were conducted considering three public datasets from different scenarios, carrying noise from various sources. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can achieve very high effectiveness results. In addition, effectiveness gains up to +318% were obtained by the unsupervised learning procedure in a speaker retrieval task. Also, accuracy gains up to +7,05% were obtained by the unsupervised learning procedure in a speaker identification task considering recordings from different domains. / FAPESP: 2015/07934-4

Previous issue date: 2018-06-19 / This research investigates the process o f psychic elaboration o f what is con1monly referred to as
passage from the infans to the speaker, considered, fro1n the point of view of this thesis, a
structuring operation, in which there is a subjective initiurn dependent on the speech function. The
analysis starts from the initial texts ofFreud and the theory ofknots at the end ofLacanian teaching
in arder to deal with the subjective structuring and, thus, to penetrate the particularities o f autism.
This investigative exercise brings the concepts o f drive, unary trait, lalangue, Real, Syrnbolic and
Imaginary with a view to explaining that the baby's body suffers the incidence of the brand
generated by maternal c are. In these conditions, in order for the infans to leave the category o f pure
organism and humanize itself, it 1nust ally itself with the signifiers from the Other. Along with this
question, we present the subjective structure supporied by the braiding between Real, Symbolic
and Imaginary whose incidence o f lapses in its structuring is capable o f producing effects such as
autism. To investigate this complex elaboration, we start with the following questions: Can the
effect ofthe other1
s speech on the child's body result in drifting speech? Is it possible for the autistic
child to be in language, even without the function of speech? In this context, we approach the
subjective constitution under the logic of the Borromean node and the RSI braid, evidencing the
synchronic structure o f the subj ective constitution and the necessity o f a fourth link for its 1nooring.
Given that autistic individuais are revealing of such impasses, we have made some considerations
about the understanding that node failures will only be differentiated after the repair oftheir lapses
with the fourth link. Such a proposition emphasizes a non-fixation of the psychic structure in
childhood. We argue, finally, that the autistic child is in language, is subject to it, even i f the
signifier is erased in relation to the sign. In addition, in arder to analyze issues related to the
treat1nent ofyoung children in autism, vve chose to present the Nadia case, conducted and described
by Rosine Lefort. Taking into account the context of Law 13.438 I 2017, this analysis evidenced
the need to search for nevv conjectures about the tiine and devices involved in both the diagnosis
and treatment o f children. This is because the establishn1ent o f a closed diagnosis can have negative
effects when fixing the idea o f the disease in place o f the treatment. Therefore, we reitera te that our
comn1itn1ent to the psychoanalytic treatn1ent ofthe autistic child is about the extraction ofthe object
as a way of access in the relation between it and the analyst, privileging the movetnent of the
significant network, the causation of a double, the instauration of a body iinage and, or the
forn1ulation o f an object o f substitution.
É possível a criança autista estar
na linguagem, n1esmo sem a função da fala? Nesse contexto, abordan1os a constituição subjetiva

The social identities in talk can not be estabilisched a priori but are negociated by the participants during the course of interaction. People bring to interaction potencial attributes that can become relevant in any particular encounter (Erickson, 2001). From this perspective, this research investigates the face-to-face interaction in German Language Classes, observing how identities become relevant and analyzing the data from three German Language Classes based on the principles of microethnographic research (ERICKSON, 1992, 1996). Two classes took place in a Language School and one at a University in Porto Alegre (RS). Some concepts derived from Conversational Analysis (SACKS, SCHEGLOFF e JEFFERSON, 1974; TEN HAVE, 1999; GARCEZ, 2002) and Interactional Sociolinguistics (GUMPERZ e COOK-GUMPERZ, 1982, GUMPERZ, 2001) contribute to the analysis.
