Μέθοδοι επεξεργασίας ηχητικών σημάτων για καταστολή παρεμβολών σε διατάξεις πολλαπλών μικροφώνων / Blind signal processing methods for microphone leakage suppression in multichannel audio applications

Κοκκίνης, Ηλίας 01 October 2012 (has links)
This thesis examines the problem of microphone leakage, that is the interference between simultaneously active sound sources in multichannel audio applications. Despite being a common problem with which sound engineers are confronted every day, almost no signal processing methods have been proposed to address this issue. In this work, the problem is formulated for the first time in a signal processing framework. First, it formulated inside the blind source separation (BSS) context and the limitations of related methods are analysed and reported. Since, BSS methods seem to be inappropriate for this specific problem, it is reformulated as a signal in noise problem inside the well-known noise suppression framework. Based on the widely adopted close-microphone technique a novel, generalized framework for leakage suppression is derived based on a multichannel Wiener filter. The acoustic system that models the mixing process is analysed and the related room impulse responses are discerned in direct and leakage acoustic paths. The properties of the direct acoustic path, that is the close-microphone response are investigated for the first time, from a signal processing point of view as well as a room acoustics perspective. The properties of the leakage acoustic path are also analysed for the first time using room acoustic parameters. After key properties of the acoustic paths have been identified, a method for the suppression of microphone leakage in a two channel audio setup is developed based on aWiener filter and a crude approximation of the related power spectral densities (PSDs). The performance of this method for actual recordings in real reverberant environments is more than adequate and based on these results, the method is extended for more than two sources and microphones in arbitrary arrangements. The complete method is blind and automatic, since it does not require any user input. It does not assume any prior knowledge or require training and is computationally efficient. A novel solo detection method has been developed that allows the estimation of weighting coefficients that correspond to the relative attenuation experienced by sound sources as they travel to each microphone. Combined with a new and advanced PSD estimation method based on the identification of dominant frequency bins, the related PSDs in a multichannel audio application can be identified. From these an appropriate multichannel Wiener filter for each microphone signal can be calculated, which will provide the estimated source signal at its output.

The search for new models that represent the biophysics of voice phonation is important for applications that include voice signal processing because it represents a tool for getting to know the characteristics of the speakers. This doctoral thesis presents a new proposal for the source-filter theory of voice production, more precisely related to voiced sounds, that performs the voice modelling using three independent subsystems: the excitation source, the vocal tract, the lip and nostrils radiation system. It is a proposal for a model to generate voice using linear and time-invariant systems, and takes into account the phonation physics and the cyclestationarity characteristics of the voice signal, related to the vibrational behavior of the vocal cords. The model suggests that the frequency oscillation of the vocal folds is a function of the mass and length, but controlled by the longitudinal tension applied to them. In the proposed voice generation model, the vibratory movement of the vocal cords is modeled by a cyclestationary train of impulses, controlled by a tension signal obtained from the voice signal waveform. A mathematical analysis encompassing the new model for glottal excitation is accomplished by presenting a mathematical expression of the signal power spectral density which excites the glottis, as well as the voice signal, whose parameters can be adjusted to emulate pathologies in the glottis. Moreover, the analysis of the utilized glottal pulse in the frequency domain is presented. To analyze the performance of the proposed model, tests with locutions were done and the results indicate that the proposed model adjusts well to voice generation.

This study assumes the occurrence of an impurity band which merges into the valence band at higher concentrations. The theoretical approach, based on a self-consistent multiple scattering formalism, determines the spectral density function at the Fermi level from the calculation of the hole's Green's functions. A choice of a figure of merit, based on the width and on the position of the maximum of the spectral density function in the reciprocal space, leads to a phase diagram determining the metallic or non-metallic character of the sample. It is also possible to identify mobility edges and, in consequence, the density of effectively free carriers. A model sample is defined by the pair of independent parameters, Mn concentration and hole density. The best samples, those with the highest figures of merit, have a ratio between the extended hole density and the Mn concentration near 0.3, very close to ratio of 10-30% observed among the real samples produced with the highest transition temperatures. Also, the ratio between those Mn concentrations corresponding to the metal-to-non-metal and non-metal-to-metal transitions is approximately 2.4, very close to the value 2.1 inferred from the real samples. An interpretation of the occurrence of high transition temperature ferromagnetism in GaM-nAs is given as a consequence of the interplay between interaction mechanism assisted by localized states and indirect interactions assisted by extended hole states. Carrier mediated magnetism in semiconductors show important and potentially useful differences from magnetism in metals, such as light- or bias-controlled ferromagnetism. Motivated by experiments reporting higher Currier temperatures in GaAs quantum wells with Mn-delta doping than the ones observed in bulk (Ga,Mn)As, we explore theoretically the feasibility of bias-controlled ferromagnetism these systems. We calculate self-consistently indirect Mn-Mn exchange interaction, and apply Monte Carlo approach to find transition temperature Tc. Our approach allows us to systematically study the eects of quantum confinement and the position of Mn layer on magnetic ordering and Tc, beyond mean field approximation. We compare our findings with the experimental results and suggest paths toward improving the control of ferromagnetism.

Processamento de sinais de atividade elétrica neuronal a partir de ferramentas matemáticas clássicas

Borges, Tatiane Vieira 31 July 2009 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation aims to make a study and processing of two types of signs of neuronal electrical activity. The first was recorded from multielectrode arrays (MEA), in reference to spontaneous activity of neuronal groups grown in cultures. We analyzed two cultures considered inactive, meaning, cultures that after a few days in vitro, there was not a connection between neurons. It was applied two mathematical tools, autocorrelation and power spectral density, allowing an analysis of the signal in time domain and frequency, respectively, trying to verify whether the data recorded from these inactive cultures could be considered as noise from instrumentation. In fact, the results indicate that these signals have similar characteristics to white noise, which disturbs any computer analysis usually performed by researchers in computational neuroscience. Another source of signals used for this study were records of electroencephalography (EEG), collected on 20 patients from the Clinical Hospital of Uberlândia under prior consent. After a clinical examination by qualified professional, an analysis was performed using computational Fourier transform and power spectral density. Through amplitude graphics (Fourier transform) and spectral density, we have realized that the signal energy is concentrated around the frequencies more representative and, in some cases, there was presence of noise from power network. With the phase spectrum, it was possible to conclude that signals with similar frequencies have spectra of similar phase.

Development of CFD models applied to fluidized beds for waste gasification / Développement de modèles CFD appliqués à des lits fluidisés pour la gazéification des déchets

Tricomi, Leonardo January 2017 (has links)
Abstract: The thesis work is part of a project that aims to develop a reliable CFD model to investigate the fluid-dynamics of a fluidized bubbling bed during gasification of refuse derived fuel (RDF) from sorted municipal solid waste (MSW). Gasification is a thermochemical process that converts carbon-containing materials into syngas. In this specific context scaling up is challenging because it implies dealing with a complex chemistry combined to heat and mass transfer phenomena in a multi-phase fluid environment. CFD modeling could represent a potential tool to predict the impact of the reactor configuration and operating conditions on gas yield, composition and potential contaminants. Validation of CFD simulations for such systems has been so far possible using different sophisticated experimental tools, allowing to link the model with experimental data. However, such high tech equipment may not always be available, especially at industrial scale. Hence, this work focuses on investigating the accuracy and numerical sensitivity of two different CFD models employed in the characterization of dense solid-particle flows in bubbling fluidized beds. The key parameter adopted to describe and quantify the dynamic behavior of this multiphase system is the power spectral density (PSD) distribution of pressure fluctuations. This PSD function was used to assess the accuracy of CFD models using one set of operating condition. The same type of analysis, extended to a wider range of operating conditions, may lead to a robust validation of the numerical models presented in this work. In spite of his measurement simplicity, pressure drop data present a strong connection with the bed fluid-dynamics and its interpretation could help to improve the fluidized bed technologies very fast, pushing CFD models closer to applications.

Vodohospodářské řešení zásobního objemu nádrže Vranov / Water Management Analysis of Storage Capacity of the Vranov Reservoir

Vítková, Lucie January 2020 (has links)
The current persistent drought and changes in the climate system have raised water managers expert questions about how to manage water resources in the future. The manifestation of climate change in hydrological series and their influence on the magnitude of threats to the storage functions of reservoirs are more often investigated. Already today, long-term shortages of storage capacity in reservoirs lead to the introduction of special manipulations on water structures. The aim of the thesis is to perform the analysis of time series, respectively decomposition of hydrological series average annual and monthly discharges. Create extended hydrological bases using synthetic discharge series generators and develop a comprehensive analysis of storage volume without considering losses even with the introduction of losses from the water surface vapor in the UNCE RESERVOIR program. The created discharge series are compared and evaluated on the basis of statistical characteristics and reservoir storages results with the real discharge series. The practical app is conducted on the Vranov reservoir in the Dyje River Basin.
