Aproximadamente 70% do solos com potencial agrícola no Brasil são classificados como solos ácidos, e para sua correção realiza-se, normalmente, a aplicação do calcário em pó. Apesar de ser o insumo sólido mais consumido no país, nota-se uma baixa qualidade em suas aplicações além da inexistência de equipamentos dedicados à sua aplicação e de esforços em pesquisa e desenvolvimento de novos conceitos de máquinas nesse sentido. Atualmente a maior parte das aplicações a lanço de granulados (fertilizantes) e pós (corretivos) são realizadas através de distribuídores centrífugos. Provavelmente essa tenha sido a razão para os fabricantes optaram por investir mais nessas máquinas, estagnando assim a evolução dos distribuidores de princípio pendular, os quais realizam as aplicações através do movimento oscilatório horizontal de um tubo. Diante desse cenário, buscou-se adaptar e redimensionar um distribuidor de princípo pendular dedicados à fertilizantes para aplicação de grandes vazões de calcário em pó. Fabricou-se um protótipo com mecanismo dosador volumétrico e acionamento do pêndulo via motor elétrico conectado a um inversor de frequência. Utilizou-se pêndulos de policloreto de vinila (PVC) com diferentes comprimentos com e sem rampa em suas extremidades. Os ensaios foram realizados em sete diferentes frequências, e mensurou-se a largura máxima de lançamento das partículas. Notou-se que tanto o incremento da frequência e do comprimento do pêndulo, assim como a utilização de uma rampa na extremidade foram, na maioria dos casos, capazes de produzir um aumento na distância de lançamento da partícula. Este estudo demonstrou a capacidade do protótipo em realizar aplicações de calcário em pó em faixa com uma vazão superior (até 6,5 kg s-1) às convencionais (1,5 kg s-1) com coeficientes de variação inferiores a 3,14 %. Além disso, mostou-se que é possivel variar a largura da faixa de aplicação de 1,89 m até 5,69 m com a mudança do comprimento do pêndulo, frequência e utilização da rampa. / Approximately 70% of the soils with agricutural potential in Brazil are classified as acid, and, for their neutralization the application of lime powder is usually carried out. Despite of being the most used solid agricultural input in the country, it can be noticed a low quality in its application, besides the lack of equipament dedicated exclusively to its application and of efforts in research and development of new concepts of machines in that sense. Currently, most of the granulated and powder application carried out through centrifugal spreaders. Probably this was the reason why manufactures opted to invest more in these kind of spreader, stagnating the evolution of pendulum spreaders, which realize the distribution through the horizontal oscillatory moviment of a tube (spout). In this context, it was intended to adapt and resize a pendular spreader dedicated to fertilizers for application of large flows of lime powder. A prototype with volumetric measure mechanism and eletric motor drive, connected to a frequency inverter, was developed. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pendulums with different lengths were used, with and without a ramp at their ends.. The tests were perfomed at seven different frequencies, and the higher widht distance was measured. It was noted that the increase in frequency and length of the tube, as well as the addition of a ramp at the border were, in most cases, able to increase the flight distance of the particles. This study demonstrated the ability of the prototype to spread limestone with a higher flow rate (up to 6.5 kg s-1) than the conventional ones (1.5 kg s-1) with coefficient of variation lower than 3.14%. Furthermore, it has been shown that is possible to vary the width of the application range form 1.89 m to 5.69 m by modifying the length of the tube, frequency and use of the ramp.

Avaliação objetiva da patência nasal com a utilização de enxertos expansores (spreader grafts) em rinoplastias / Objective evaluation of the nasal patency using spreader grafts in rhinoplastyVictor Diniz de Pochat 07 November 2011 (has links)
Introdução: A evolução das técnicas de rinoplastia está intimamente relacionada com o melhor conhecimento anatômico e funcional do nariz. A observação de que a incompetência das válvulas nasais pode ser responsável por até 50 por cento das queixas obstrutivas vem sendo confirmada através de diversos estudos. A utilização de enxertos expansores (spreader grafts) para ampliação das válvulas internas já foi bem estabelecida, no entanto, ainda não foi bem estudada de forma objetiva. Objetivo: A finalidade deste estudo foi avaliar prospectivamente a utilização de enxertos expansores na rinoplastia, fazendo-se uma análise objetiva do grau de melhora da patência nasal dos pacientes através da rinometria acústica e do espelho de Glatzel modificado, bem como uma análise subjetiva da qualidade de respiração dos mesmos pacientes mediante um escore preestabelecido. Metodologia: Foram estudados vinte pacientes submetidos à rinoplastia com utilização de enxertos expansores. Os pacientes foram avaliados no pré-operatório através de análise subjetiva através de questionário de qualidade respiratória - e objetiva, através de medidas da área de secção mínima transversa correspondente à válvula nasal interna mediante a rinometria acústica, e, através do espelho de Glatzel modificado. Após 90 a 120 dias da cirurgia, novas medidas foram realizadas, comparando-as com os resultados obtidos no pré-operatório. Os valores obtidos foram abordados sob a forma de variáveis quantitativas e analisados de acordo com a média e o desvio-padrão pelo teste não paramétrico de Wilcoxon. Conclusão: As medidas referentes às válvulas internas obtidas mediante rinometria acústica foram superiores quando comparados o momento pós-operatório com o pré-operatório dos lados direito e esquerdo. Quando analisados os valores obtidos através do espelho de Glatzel modificado, também observou-se que houve um acréscimo das médias se comparado o pós com o pré-operatório. A análise subjetiva da sensação de patência nasal demonstrou uma melhora na qualidade respiratória e apresentou significância estatística / Background: The evolution of rhinoplasty techniques is closely related to the best knowledge of anatomy and function of the nose. The observation that the nasal valve incompetence may be responsible for up to 50 percent of obstructive symptoms has been confirmed by several studies. Using spreader grafts for internal valves expansion has been well established; however, it has not been well studied objectively. Objective: The purpose of this study was to prospectively evaluate the use of spreader grafts during rhinoplasty. We analyzed objectively the improvement degree in the nasal patency of patients through acoustic rhinometry and modified Glatzels mirror. We also analyzed the subjective improvement degree through a breathing quality score. Method: We studied twenty patients undergoing rhinoplasty with spreader grafts. Patients were evaluated preoperatively through subjective means-by a quality in breathing questionnaire-and objective analysis, by measuring the minimum cross sectional area (corresponding to the internal nasal valve) by acoustic rhinometry and through a modified Glatzels mirror. After 90 to 120 days, new measurements were made and then compared with those obtained preoperatively. The values were addressed in the form of quantitative variables and analyzed according to the mean and standard deviation by the nonparametric Wilcoxon test. Conclusion: The measures relating to the internal valves obtained by acoustic rhinometry were higher when the moment after surgery was compared with the preoperative moment on the left and the right sides. The results obtained by the modified Glatzels mirror also showed an increase in the measures in both sides. Analysis of subjective sensation of nasal patency demonstrated an improvement in quality of breathing with statistical significance

Investigating the Effectiveness of Supermarket Transmission Control Measures on the Spread of COVID-19 in the Presence of Super-Spreaders through Agent-Based ModellingMountford, Timothy 04 April 2023 (has links) (PDF)
An examination of the effectiveness of transmission control measures for COVID-19 in a supermarket setting, factoring for the inclusion of Super-Spreaders, must extend beyond the direct effects the control measure has on transmission in order to account for the indirect effects changes in human movement dynamics have on the spread of disease. The analysis makes use of Agent-Based Modelling simulation techniques to model changes in customer movement and disease transmission dynamics resulting from the isolated and combined implementation of COVID-19 transmission control measures. The bottom-up approach of agent-based modelling allows for the inclusion of heterogeneous, individual-level chances of infectiousness, compliance, and consumer behaviours, allowing for a more realistic representation of real-world behaviours. The model used for analysis is built entirely in the NetLogo environment, designed to be interactive, adaptable to user-varied inputs, and visually engaging. This allows for the model to adapt to changes in disease parameters and easily communicate model effects in a manner accessible to users in and out of the field. Control measures considered include: Vaccinations, Capacity Limiting, Social Distancing, Staff COVID-19 Testing, and the use of Sanitizers. Results indicate high levels of effectiveness for the use of Vaccinations at reducing transmission with minimal impact on customer dynamics. The results also highlight the negative effects changes in customer dynamics can have on transmission, indicated by increased shop-queue transmissions resulting from the use of Capacity Limiting or other measures slowing customer entrance to the shop. The positive effects of interactions between control measures are highlighted by the additional implementation of Social Distancing in reducing these increases. The implications of these findings involve the need to factor for changes in human movement dynamics when assessing the effectiveness of transmission control measures implemented in any environment. The findings further reinforce the benefits of implementing social distancing practises in conjunction with mechanisms that reduce the flow of movement, as well as the benefits of increased vaccination coverage in the population. Lastly, the findings provide an effective comparison of the control measures considered, allowing for the direct assessment of their implementation and the resulting effects on transmission and customer dynamics.

On assiste aujourd’hui au développement massif des technologies nomades. L’utilisation de boîtiers compacts est ainsi en plein croissance, non seulement à cause des téléphones portables et tablettes, mais aussi à cause de l’introduction massive de l’électronique dans les appareils portables de la vie quotidienne. La microélectronique embarquée dans ces appareils représente le principal outil d’information et de communication des personnes avec le monde extérieur. Le rythme de développement de ces technologies dans les dernières années est tel que les possibilités d’utilisation des appareils portables d’aujourd’hui étaient de la science-fiction il y a seulement 10 ans.Les fonctionnalités qui verront le jour dans les années à venir ne peuvent donc pas toutes être encore imaginées. Ces fonctionnalités vont toutefois très certainement impliquer une augmentation des performances de calcul des dispositifs, et par conséquent de la chaleur qu’ils dissipent.Aujourd’hui, on envisage des puces complexes comprenant plusieurs niveaux logiques et basées sur technologies hétérogènes. On demande également que ces technologies soient intégrées dans les appareils utilisés dans la vie quotidienne, qu’ils soient connectés entre eux et qu’ils réagissent de façon intelligente. Les stratégies de dissipation de la chaleur doivent donc être en adéquation avec la réduction des dimensions des dispositifs de la microélectronique.L’objectif de la thèse présentée dans ce manuscrit est ainsi d’étudier les stratégies de dissipation thermique des boîtiers compacts avec l’aide de répartiteurs de chaleur intégrés. Ce travail porte sur la caractérisation des performances et contraintes des répartiteurs thermiques avec matériaux carbonés. Les répartiteurs sont capables de dissiper sur sa surface la chaleur produite dans un point chaud.Afin d’étudier le phénomène de la dissipation avec un répartiteur, on a mis en place une méthodologie qui prend en compte le caractère multiniveau de la dissipation thermique. L’objectif est de pouvoir se concentrer sur l’interaction entre le répartiteur thermique et chacun des éléments de l’ensemble. On a réutilisé deux véhicules de test et on a désigné un véhicule de test spécifique pour l’étude de la thermique des puces imageurs.Les travaux sont basés sur deux axes : Les études d’intégration et les études thermiques. Les études d’intégration prennent en compte les contraintes dérivées de l’implémentation des couches répartiteurs dans des boitiers compactes. On se concentre d’abord sur les procès d’implémentation des couches répartiteurs au sein de l’ensemble dans un procès industriel. Ensuite on étudie les effets thermomécaniques et les effets sur l’intégrité des signaux à haute fréquence.Les études thermiques caractérisent le gain en performances dérivé de cette intégration. On analyse ces phénomènes thermiques avec des mesures et des simulations. Premièrement au niveau silicium et répartiteur, deuxièmement au niveau boitier et finalement on se concentre sur les effets dans une puce et boitier imageur.A la lumière des résultats on peut dire que les matériaux carbonés se présentent comme l’alternative plus intéressante pour l’implémentation à grande échelle de répartiteurs dans des boitiers compacts. Cette implémentation sera poussée par la recherche des prestations dans des boitiers de plus en plus complexes et hétérogènes, ou l’empreinte du répartiteur doit être minimale. La combination des couches de carbone a tous les niveaux du boitier, avec des TIMs des épaisseurs réduites sera la tendance dans les années à venir pour ce type de dispositifs.Cette thèse s’inscrit dans le cadre d’une collaboration tripartie entre le CEA-LETI de Grenoble, le laboratoire G2Elab de l’INP Grenoble et STMicroelectronics à Crolles. / We witness today an explosion of nomadic technologies. Portable devices have become the main tool that people use to connect with the rest of the world. The microelectronics embedded in these devices is the technology that drives this process. The pace of development of these technologies is such that the versatility of portable devices today were science fiction only 10 years ago.The functionalities that will be integrated in the coming years cannot be imagined yet. These features will imply an increase of the computing demands, and consequently, of the heat dissipated inside them. The trend leads to complex stacks with heterogeneous modules of heat dissipating layers.These technologies will be integrated in everyday life. Internet of Things, as we call it, will demand an increasing amount of independent low footprint devices that will be connected. Heat dissipation strategies must therefore be compatible with increasingly smaller dimensions. Compact packages demand is growing rapidly, not only because of telephones and tablets, but also because of the massive introduction of electronics into in everyday life devices.The objective of the thesis is to study the integration of heat-spreaders in compact packages to enhance its thermal performance. This work goes deeply in the characterization of the thermal performance of carbon-base heat spreaders. Heat-spreaders are able to extract the heat produced in hot spots and transport it along its surface.In order to study the heat spreading phenomenon, a methodology that takes into account the multi-level nature of heat dissipation has been implemented. The objective is to be able to focus on the interaction between the heat-spreader and each one of the elements of the package stack. Two test vehicles have been re-used from previous works. A specific test vehicle was also design in order to emulate the thermal behavior of imaging sensors.The thesis is based on two main axes: Integration studies and thermal studies. The integration studies take into account the constraints derived from the implementation of heat spreaders in compact packages. Firstly, we focus on the implementation processes within an industrial process. Latelly, we study the thermomechanical effects of heat spreaders and the impact on the integrity of high frequency signals.Thermal studies are aimed to characterize the performance gain derived from this heat spreader integration. The thermal phenomena are analyzed with measurements and simulations. First at silicon and interface level, then at package level, finally we focus on the effects in image sensor die and package.In the light of the results it can be said that carbon based materials are the most interesting alternative for large-scale implementation of heat spreaders in compact packages. This implementation will be driven by the research of new functionalities and performances in compact packages. The heat spreader will have to perform while maintaining a minimal footprint. The combination of carbon layers at all package levels, along with reduced thermal interface thickness will be the trend in the coming years for this type of device.This thesis is part of a tripartite collaboration between the CEA-LETI of Grenoble, the G2Elab laboratory of the INP Grenoble and STMicroelectronics in Crolles.

abstract: In most social networking websites, users are allowed to perform interactive activities. One of the fundamental features that these sites provide is to connecting with users of their kind. On one hand, this activity makes online connections visible and tangible; on the other hand, it enables the exploration of our connections and the expansion of our social networks easier. The aggregation of people who share common interests forms social groups, which are fundamental parts of our social lives. Social behavioral analysis at a group level is an active research area and attracts many interests from the industry. Challenges of my work mainly arise from the scale and complexity of user generated behavioral data. The multiple types of interactions, highly dynamic nature of social networking and the volatile user behavior suggest that these data are complex and big in general. Effective and efficient approaches are required to analyze and interpret such data. My work provide effective channels to help connect the like-minded and, furthermore, understand user behavior at a group level. The contributions of this dissertation are in threefold: (1) proposing novel representation of collective tagging knowledge via tag networks; (2) proposing the new information spreader identification problem in egocentric soical networks; (3) defining group profiling as a systematic approach to understanding social groups.
