A study of why students leave Stanislaus County high schools

Caldwell, Walter Treadway 01 January 1955 (has links)
The problem, source of data, and procedure. As a nation grows and the states that compose the nation develop and improve , it is quite natural that the leaders, especially tile loaders in education, become concerned if there are many of the youth leaving school before they have gained the knowledge to help them cope with the stress and strain of the world about them. The problem of the school drop-outs has been of concern to educators since the beginning of our secondary schools . In California this problem has increased with the tremendous influx of population and from all indications will continue to grow if steps are not taken by individual school districts to do something about it. It is necessary, therefore, to get information regarding local areas.

Plankton and physiochemical factors in a vernal pool

Gonzalez de Macias, Ma. Refugio 01 January 1989 (has links)
Recently the uniqueness of the vernal pool habitat has been recognized by several groups of biologists. A survey of the literature reveals that interest of botanists, but one notes a lack of information of plankton which are so fundamental in the food web. Therefore, a taxonomic survey of the plankton seems appropriate. In the present study, the abundance of the predominant species of plankton were studied during a seasonal and also diurnal cycle. A possible correlation of this information with some physicochemical factors was also tested. Because of time constraints this study was limited to one pool but hopefully other researchers will extend this work in the future.

The insects of two vernal lakes in eastern Stanislaus County, California

Curtis, Teri Jacobsen 01 January 1990 (has links)
The number of California vernal pools and vernal lakes are diminishing. Through the present study, this investigator hopes to increase the understanding of vernal pool biota, as well as the awareness that these unique habitats need protection. Other studies of California vernal pools have emphasized their flora, their plankton and their physicochemical aspects. The purpose of this investigation is to survey the insects and other macrofauna found in two vernal lakes of eastern Stanislaus County, to examine the phenology of the insects within one of these lakes, and to compare the insect taxa found in these vernal lakes to those reported from studies of similar vernal pools.

An evaluation technique in appraising certain community resources for conservation education in Stanislaus County

Francis, Harold Clarence 01 January 1955 (has links)
This study is concerned with how the school is to proceed in a program of conservation education to bring about these desired changes. It is concerned, however, with only one link in the long chain of activities composing the total conservation education program--the development of a cooperative evaluation technique in appraising certain community agencies that can be used by the schools of Stanislaus county in teaching conservation of the resources most vital to the county; namely, soil and water. The study attempted to evaluate the agencies in terms of the accessibility and adaptability of their use to the school program.
