The effect of parental involvement on the identity styles of adolescents

Harker-van Heerden, Marsha January 2018 (has links)
Magister Artium - MA / Adolescence is a phase when youth engage in risk-taking behaviour, which could result in poor physical and psychological adjustment. Risk behaviour is a result of poor decision- making. Decision-making is associated with exploration and commitment, also referred to as identity styles. During the phase of developing an identity style, parenting is challenging; however, research reveals that parental involvement, as well as a more positive approaches to parenting, have been observed to influence child behaviour and outcomes. For parenting and identity styles, this is not very clear. Therefore, the aim of this current study was to assess the effect of parental involvement on the identity styles of adolescents. The study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational research design. The respondents were conveniently sampled. The final sample was Grade 10 learners in the Metro East Education District, with a mean age of 16.01 (SD=1.04). Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire, which comprised three parts: demographic details of participants, Parent Involvement Mechanisms Measure, and Identity Styles Scale. Data were analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results revealed that informational identity style was the most prevalent identity style, which was significantly and positively predicted, with 18% of variance. For mothers, maternal modelling and maternal instruction significantly predicted the informational style. For fathers, paternal reinforcement significantly and positively predicted commitment style, with 14% of variance. Recommendations are provided based on the findings of this current study.

Lärstilsmodeller : en jämförande litteraturstudie av Dunn och Dunns Learning Style Inventory och Vermunts Inventory of Learning Styles / Learning Style Models : A Comparative Literary Study of Dunn and Dunn’s Learning Style Inventory and Vermunt’s Inventory of Learning Style

Göthman, Sara January 2011 (has links)

Smoothening of Software documentation : comparing a self-made sequence to sequence model to a pre-trained model GPT-2 / Utjämning av mjukvarudokumentation

Tao, Joakim, Thimrén, David January 2021 (has links)
This thesis was done in collaboration with Ericsson AB with the goal of researching the possibility of creating a machine learning model that can transfer the style of a text into another arbitrary style depending on the data used. This had the purpose of making their technical documentation appear to have been written with one cohesive style for a better reading experience. Two approaches to solve this task were tested, the first one was to implement an encoder-decoder model from scratch, and the second was to use the pre-trained GPT-2 model created by a team from OpenAI and fine-tune the model on the specific task. Both of these models were trained on data provided by Ericsson, sentences were extracted from their documentation. To evaluate the models training loss, test sentences, and BLEU scores were used and these were compared to each other and with other state-of-the-art models. The models did not succeed in transforming text into a general technical documentation style but a good understanding of what would need to be improved and adjusted to improve the results were obtained. /
This thesis was presented on June 22, 2021, the presentation was done online on Microsoft teams.

Omvärdering av funktionalistiska hus: En passiv energieffektivitet och dagsljusanalys med BIM-verktyg / Re-evaluation of Functionalist Houses: A Passive Energy Efficiency and Daylight Analysis Using BIM Tools

Sherzad, Rafiullah, Imamzada, Awrangzib January 2021 (has links)
Western Europe Functionalism ideas are born of the need for scientific and technological progress in producing new materials and building technologies. Today energy efficiency has become one of the most important characteristics of any project, where functionalism reflects well-designed building components. Reducing energy consumption, improving energy efficiency and minimizing greenhouse emission in the building is vital for the planet's survival. This study intends to provide expertise in design and construction disciplines to use the idea concept of Fallingwater and Villa Savoye, functionalist-style buildings, from the golden era of functionalism. This evaluation can help a new generation of designers and architects to improve the passive energy efficiency and daylight of studied concepts, pragmatic and organic. As a case study, the authors simulated and evaluated the energy efficiency of two conventional architecture designs stated above. Energy efficiency and daylight simulation of these functionalist-style buildings were executed using the BIM-based Building Energy Simulation (BES) tool. The indoor temperature variation and the amount of illuminance for each zone were assessed. The result indicates that the main temperature variation (mean air and operative temperature) in both buildings is not suitable for living and some parts of the regularly occupied floor receive too much direct sunlight. Based on the results, some passive energy-saving measures such as improving building orientation, material and shape, window wall ratio (WWR), adding external shading device, window position, and size are suggested to help researchers in the AEC industry in the future reforming process.

Role of adult attachment style in psychosis : a research portfolio

Bryers, Christine Mairi January 2013 (has links)
Background: Attachment theory represents a developmental framework which proposes that early relationships with primary caregivers have an enduring effect on interpersonal relationships, affect regulation and psychological functioning throughout the lifespan. It has been suggested that this occurs via the influence of internal representations regarding the self, others and relationships, which form the basis of an attachment style in adulthood. Attachment has been conceptualised as a constructive theoretical basis from which to consider psychological mechanisms underlying the emotional distress, interpersonal problems and difficulties in affect regulation commonly associated with psychosis. Aims: A systematic literature review was conducted investigating the current research findings regarding adult attachment style in psychosis and clinical correlates of this. An empirical study used a cross sectional design to investigate the role of adult attachment style in emotional recovery in psychosis. It was hypothesised that attachment insecurity would be associated with higher levels of depression and symptom related distress. Interpersonal problems and emotion regulation were also investigated and it was predicted that these variables would mediate the relationship between attachment insecurity and increased emotional distress. Method: Individuals with psychosis (n=70) completed self report measures of adult attachment style, interpersonal problems and emotion regulation. Clinician rated measures of depression and symptom related distress were also completed. Results: The literature review revealed that adult attachment style is of relevance in psychosis as consistent findings of greater attachment insecurity in psychosis compared with non clinical populations have been reported. Adult attachment insecurity has been associated with a number of clinical outcomes in exploratory research. The empirical study found support for hypothesised associations between attachment insecurity and greater emotional distress. Predicted relationships were also supported between attachment insecurity and higher rates of interpersonal problems and more use of expressive suppression as an emotion regulation strategy. Interpersonal problems significantly mediated the relationship between attachment insecurity and emotional distress. The hypothesised mediating role of emotion regulation was not supported. Conclusions: Findings of the empirical study suggest that insecurity in adult attachment style is an important variable in understanding emotional distress in individuals with psychosis and that difficulties in interpersonal functioning, as a mediating factor in this relationship, may represent a useful focus in clinical work.

A Progressive Guide to Commercial Trumpet Playing

Murine, Eric R. 01 January 2013 (has links)
The commercial genre of trumpet playing has been overlooked by educators for years. The goal of this project is to author a book, A Progressive Guide to Commercial Trumpet Playing, to address this issue. Commercial music can be defined as music for the mass consumer audience with the intent to produce monetary profits. This approach will take a student stylistically from blues through the popular music of the 21st century. The ultimate goal of this book is to fill the pedagogical void in trumpet performance study material, providing a more complete foundation for the trumpet performer. Each chapter will deal with a specific commercial genre and will include a brief history, musical examples, etudes, and a duet. This information will show students how to approach a given style through musical listening and performance and will provide a structure for effectively learning each commercial genre. This resource will also provide classical trumpet professors the tools for teaching genres of music with which they may be uncomfortable.
