This experiment was delineated to evaluate if the inclusion of CIDR® for 6 days in protocols at the base of GnRH and PGF2 associated to the calf removal (CR) can increase the conception rate at TAI and pregnancy rate (PR) early in the breeding season in suckled Nelore cows. Nelore multiparous cows (n = 453), with 34 to 74 days postpartum, were divided at treatments as follows: TI: CR (48h, d -10) – GnRH (Gonadorelin 50 mcg, d -8) – PGF2α (Dinoprost Trometamina, 25 mg, d -2) + CR (40h) – GnRH (Gonadorelin 50 mcg, d 0) + TAI; TII: CR (48h, d -10) – GnRH (Gonadorelin 50 mcg, d -8) + CIDR® in – CIDR® out + PGF2α (Dinoprost Trometamina, 25 mg, d -2) + CR (40h) – GnRH (Gonadorelin 50 mcg, d 0) + TAI; TIII (control) was submitted just at natural service. After TAI the animals (TI, TII and TIII) were submitted to natural service until d 90. Cyclicity was determined by serum P4 in two blood samples (d -18 and d -10). Body condition score (BCS) was determined on day -18. Conception rate to TAI and PR were evaluated by rectal palpation 44, 74, 104 and 134 days after TAI. A logistic and linear regression model (Logistic – SAS) was used. The BCS influenced differently conception rate at TAI between treatments with or without CIDR®. The animals with intermediary BCS (3,25 to 3,75) exhibited higher conception rate at TAI. Cows with BCS 3,50 showed better results at TII, while the cows with BCS > 3,50 had better results at TI. The conception rate at TAI had inverted relation to cyclicity. The anestrous animals showed better (P<0,01) conception rate at TAI in relation to cyclic cows, 40,5 and 21,9%, respectively. Independent of BCS and cyclicity, the pregnancy rate during the breeding season was bigger in the synchronized animals (TI and TII) in relation to control (TIII) that was 78,7, 83,5 and 57,8% at 90 days of breeding season and just at this time the control group (TIII) showed... Aplicação da tecnologia RFID na rastreabilidade e sincronização da cadeia de suprimentos aeronáuticos / Application RFID technology for track & trace and synchronization of aeronautical supply chain

Silva, Samuel Bloch da 16 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Antonio Batocchio / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Mecânica / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-16T21:18:07Z (GMT). / Abstract: It is understood based on the research findings of Auto-ID Center, RFID technology that could encourage the creation of a "new contact surface" between business units, improving the information quality of aeronautical supply chain. In this context the technology would provide "ideal" conditions to automation activities commonly existing manual date the internal and external processes of the companies involved. This improved flow of information needs to reach the level of aircraft components, since they are subject to different states and conditions of operation and handling (temperature, unity, vibrations). Somehow these items must be tracked and traced to the different needs and industrial legislation. Another important concern is adding aircraft manufacturers in relation to "electronic pedigree". Despite this, producing only the amount requested and the dates for the synchronized assembly line of the aircraft, is one of the most important changes in the context of the value stream of aircraft manufacturers. In other words, synchronize the components based on demand is a direct result of a robust model of delivery, based on trust "client-supplier" without building inventory. The purpose of this study is to present the benefits of the application RFID technology to tracking and synchronization of aeronautical supply chain. / Mestrado / Materiais e Processos de Fabricação / Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica

Kontaktsynkronisering i Exchange

Vestlund, Andreas January 2011 (has links)

CSP-i : an implementation of CSP

Wrench, Karen Lee 08 March 2013 (has links)
CSP (Communicating Sequential Processes) is a notation proposed by Hoare, for expressing process communication and synchronization. Although this notation has been widely acclaimed, Hoare himself never implemented it as a computer language. He did however produce the necessary correctness proofs and subsequently the notation has been adopted (in various guises) by the designers of other concurrent languages such as Ada and occam. Only two attempts have been made at a direct and precise implementation of CSP. With closer scrutiny, even these implementations are found to deviate from the specifications expounded by Hoare, and in so doing restrict the original proposal. This thesis comprises two main sections. The first of these includes a brief look at the primitives of concurrent programming, followed by a comparative study of the existing adaptations of CSP and other message passing languages. The latter section is devoted to a description of the author's attempt at an original implementation of the notation. The result of this attempt is the creation of the CSP-i language and a suitable environment for executing CSP-i programs on an IBM PC. The CSP-i implementation is comparable with other concurrent systems presently available. In some aspects, the primitives featured in CSP-i provide the user with a more efficient and concise notation for expressing concurrent algorithms than several other message-based languages, notably occam. / KMBT_363 / Adobe Acrobat 9.53 Paper Capture Plug-in

Long-range neural synchronization in attention and perceptual consciousness

Doesburg, Sam McLeod 05 1900 (has links)
Cognition is dynamic and complex, requiring specific sets of brain areas to cooperate for specific tasks. Neural synchronization is a proposed mechanism for transient functional integration of specific neural populations, enabling feature flexible binding and dynamic assignment of functional connectivity in the brain according to task demands. This thesis addresses the role of neural synchronization in selective attention and perceptual consciousness. The goals of this thesis are to test the hypothesis that synchronization between brain regions is relevant to network dynamics in selective attention and for perceptual organization, and to elucidate the function of synchronization in different frequency ranges. Using a selective visuospatial cuing paradigm it is shown that deploying attention to one visual hemifield yields transient long-distance gamma-band synchronization between contralateral visual cortex and other, widespread, brain regions. This is interpreted as a mechanism for establishing anticipatory biasing of communication in the cortex. Long-distance gamma synchrony, moreover, is periodically 'refreshed' at a theta rate, possibly serving to maintain this gamma network. While local alpha-band activity was found to be greater ipsilateral to the attended visual hemifield, alpha-band synchronization between primary visual cortex and higher visual areas was greater contralateral to attended locations. This suggests that local alpha synchrony is relevant for inhibition, while long-range alpha synchronization enacts functional coupling. The onset of a new conscious percept during binocular rivalry coincides with large-scale gamma-band synchronization which recurs at a theta rate. This suggests that gamma synchronization integrates features into a unified conscious percept while the theta cycle maintains that network. Using an audiovisual speech integration paradigm it is shown that large-scale gamma synchronization is greater when incongruence is detected between auditory and visual streams. This highlights an important distinction: neural synchronization reflects neural integration, not perceptual integration. Perceptual integration typically requires neural integration (feature binding), however, in this case detection of audiovisual mismatches requires cooperation within a distributed network, whereas audiovisual speech integration is largely accomplished in superior temporal cortex. These studies indicate that long-distance gamma synchronization establishes neural integration, the theta cycle maintains gamma synchronous networks, and local and long-range alpha synchrony reflect sustained inhibition and functional coupling mechanisms, respectively. / Medicine, Faculty of / Graduate

Evaluation of systematic breeding programs in lactating dairy cows

Jobst, Shelly Marie 20 November 1998 (has links)
Observing cows in estrus and inseminating them at the optimal time are necessary steps for effective reproductive management of a dairy herd. However, increasing herd sizes can lead to reproductive inefficiency resulting in decreased profits on dairy herds. Synchronization of estrus, through pharmacological control, has been used to improve reproductive efficiency. Systematic breeding programs provide an organized approach for administering artificial insemination (AI) at first service. Moreover, reproductive management is based on a methodical approach for the entire herd rather than for the individual cow. Seven-hundred and thirty four Holstein cows from 16 commercial dairy herds were used to conduct this study evaluating three systematic breeding protocols; 14-d PGF2a, timed AI (TAI), and GnRH-PGF2α, in comparison with an untreated control group. Eight herds relied on visual observation as their primary method for detection of estrus, and 8 herds utilized the HeatWatch® (DDx, Inc., Denver, CO) electronic estrus detection system. The average days to first postpartum AI were longer for untreated control cows when compared to the other breeding protocols. First AI conception rates did not differ among control, 14-d PGF2a, or GnRH-PGF2a protocols, but were higher than the TAI protocol. However, first AI pregnancy rates were higher for untreated controls versus hormonally treated cows. Estrus characteristics associated with each protocol were also evaluated and no difference was detected across treatments. An economic analysis determining cost per pregnancy for each protocol when considering drug costs, and pregnancy rates, resulted in the highest cost per pregnancy for TAI followed by GnRH-PGF2a and 14-d PGF2a. These programs should be considered as tools for convenience and efficiency of estrus detection; however, reduced labor costs from less time spent on estrus detection may be offset by the cost of the drug protocols. Cost effectiveness must be calculated on an individual herd basis when deciding whether a systematic breeding program is the appropriate choice. / Master of Science

DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF AN ADAPTIVE AND STANDARDIZED RTP/RTCP-BASED IDMS SOLUTION

Montagut Climent, Mario Alberto 31 March 2015 (has links)
Nowadays, we are witnessing a transition from physical togetherness towards networked togetherness around media content. Novel forms of shared media experiences are gaining momentum, allowing geographically distributed users to concurrently consume the same media content while socially interacting (e.g., via text, audio or video chat). Relevant use cases are, for example, Social TV, networked games and multi-party conferencing. However, realizing enjoyable shared media services faces many challenges. In particular, a key technological enabler is the concurrent synchronization of the media playout across multiple locations, which is known as Inter-Destination Multimedia Synchronization (IDMS). This PhD thesis presents an inter-operable, adaptive and accurate IDMS solution, based on extending the capabilities of RTP/RTCP standard protocols (RFC 3550). Concretely, two new RTCP messages for IDMS have been defined to carry out the necessary information to achieve IDMS. Such RTCP extensions have been standardized within the IETF, in RFC 7272. In addition, novel standard-compliant Early Event-Driven (EED) RTCP feedback reporting mechanisms have been also designed to enhance the performance in terms of interactivity, flexibility, dynamism and accuracy when performing IDMS. The designed IDMS solution makes use of globally synchronized clocks (e.g., using NTP) and can adopt different (centralized and distributed) architectural schemes to exchange the RTCP messages for IDMS. This allows efficiently providing IDMS in a variety of networked scenarios and applications, with different requirements (e.g., interactivity, scalability, robustness…) and available resources (e.g., bandwidth, latency, multicast support…). Likewise, various monitoring and control algorithms, such as dynamic strategies for selecting the reference timing to synchronize with, and fault tolerance mechanisms, have been added. Moreover, the proposed IDMS solution includes a novel Adaptive Media Playout (AMP) technique, which aims to smoothly adjust the media playout rate, within perceptually tolerable ranges, every time an asynchrony threshold is exceeded. Prototypes of the IDMS solution have been implemented in both a simulation and in real media framework. The evaluation tests prove the consistent behavior and the satisfactory performance of each one of the designed components (e.g.,protocols, architectural schemes, master selection policies, adjustment techniques…). Likewise, comparison results between the different developed alternatives for such components are also provided. In general, the obtained results demonstrate the ability of this RTP/RTCP-based IDMS solution to concurrently and independently maintain an overall synchronization status (within allowable limits) in different logical groups of users, while avoiding annoying playout discontinuities and hardly increasing the computation and traffic load. / Montagut Climent, MA. Dynamics of classical particles and quantum spin systems

Guerra, Marta Licelis 30 April 2011 (has links)
This dissertation is divided in two parts. In the first part, we study the dynamics of a classical particle system. We calculate the efficiency of a rejectionree dynamic Monte Carlo method in the limit of low temperatures and/or high densities for d-dimensional off-lattice homogeneous particles interacting through a repulsive power-law potential r−p. Theoretically we find the algorithmic efficiency is asymptotically proportional to ρ (p+2)/2 T-d/2 with the particle density ρ and the temperature T. Dynamic Monte Carlo simulations are performed in 1-, 2- and 3-dimensional systems with different powers p, and the results agree with the theoretical predictions. In the second part, we study the dynamics of a quantum spin 1/2 system. We calculate the average of the z component of the spin operator when one spin 1/2 particle is interacting with one, two, and three baths of 1/2-integer spins. For the cases of one and two baths we find the asymptotic behavior of and the quantum purity P(t) using the density of states of the system. In both cases and P(t) decay, exponentially for a single bath and algebraically for two baths. We present simulations in real time for one spin 1/2 particle coupled to one or two baths of 1/2-integer spins. The simulations were performed using the algorithm and code of Prof. De Raedt. We first simulated one spin coupled to one or two spin-baths with no interactions between the bath spins to compare with the theoretical calculations. We extend these simulations by introducing random interactions between the bath spins, in an attempt to reach the asymptotic decay rate at earlier times and for fewer spins in the baths. We also perform preliminary studies of the correlations of two and six spin 1/2 particles coupled to one, or two bath of spins, as a step to investigate quantum synchronization. We introduce a preliminary result for the spectral density of a spin-bath system, a promising quantity to measure the synchronization of spin systems.

Digital Data Transmission Using Single-Sideband Modulation

Ouzas, Nicholas 10 1900 (has links)
<p> The feasibility of using a partial response-encoded single-sideband (SSB) modulated signal for transmission of digital data in a radio system is considered. The principal methods of SSB signal generation and demodulation are examined, and the effects of carrier synchronization are determined. The effect of steady-state carrier phase errors on the error rate of an SSB partial response receiver is analyzed theoretically and by means of computer simulation. The analysis of a decision-directed SSB carrier phase tracking loop is presented and its performance is evaluated using computer simulation. The performance of the SSB partial response system after amplification by means of travelling-wave-tube (TWT) amplifiers is analyzed by using computer simulation. Finally, a comparison of an SSB partial response system and a quadrature partial response system (QPRS) is made.</p> / Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr)
