Allocating Optimal Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant Sites : GIS-Based Multi-Criteria Modeling of Solar PV Site Selection in the Southern Thompson-Okanagan Region, British Columbia, Canada

Bartel, Kyle January 2011 (has links)
Fossil fuels and non-renewable resources are being replaced with, as modern day society has coined the term, green energy. This movement towards green energy creates a demand for renewable energy resources, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This study used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in conjunction with Remote Sensing (RS) practices and two weighting systems the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Rank-Order methods for PV site selection. Six multi-criteria models were developed using spatial factors and constraining images to locate potential photovoltaic power plant sites for three settings of fixed axis PV arrays. This analysis was performed at a macro regional scale and further analysis is encouraged for micro site selection.

Agilt RUP / Plandrivna Agila metoder : Hur arbetar företagen?

Mäki-Runsas, Tanja, Evans, David January 2014 (has links)
Inom systemutveckling används ett flertal olika arbetsmetoder. Däribland agila metoder som t.ex. XP, SCRUM, Kanban och plandrivna t.ex. RUP, Vattenfallsmodellen. High performance GeoSpatialapplication, using Twitter toincrease trace accuracy : Project for Ericsson

Schneider, Simon January 2014 (has links)
The goal of the project is to research new technologies and ways to create high speed and high performance applications in order to deal with GeoSpatial data. The research data set used is GEO-located Tweets. Twitter is chosen for its high data amount, accessibility and because of its relevance to cellular network optimization. Beyond the research part of the project, the end product will be used to increase cellular trace accuracy through the use of the highly accurate GEO-located-Tweets.The result of the final product is showing great potential. An interactive web map rendering 700 million Tweets up to a 10 by 10 meter resolution within seconds, while also allowing the user to pan and navigate the map without any performance issues. The scope of the project includes the entire process, from aggregating Tweets with a Java program, storing them in a PostgreSQL+PostGIS database, creating maps and GIS-files with MapServer, to presenting Maps and serving downloadable files in a Django web application utilizing OpenLayers. The used procedures are explained and justified in great detail throughout this report. All products used in the project are licensed under the open source initiative and are therefore free to use by anyone. The report also includes suggestions, relevant products, research projects and algorithms for future development and research.

Uppföljning av informationssystemen i en socialförvaltning : Utveckling av ett uppföljningsinstrument

Stawåsen, Carina, Henriksson, Anna January 2012 (has links)

Sjölin, Johan January 2012 (has links)
Portable IT devices such as laptops, smart phones and computer tablets are becoming ever more ubiquitous. At the same time, the population of the Western world is growing older, with aging bringing about changes with regards to individuals' physical and mental capabilities. These facts raises important questions about how well suited these devices are for use by elderly people. This study focuses on the cognitive aspects of the devices' usability, using the concept of mental models to analyze the users' understanding of a computer tablet. It also draws upon theory of graphical user interfaces in its analyses. The study was conducted by doing a set of interviews, where a group of elderly people were asked individually and in a focus group about their impressions and comprehension regarding a computer tablet they used in the study. The results suggest that the there is a mismatch between the mental model of the designers of the tablet and the mental model of the elderly users. The cause of this is posited to be due to a lack of computer experience in general amongst the participants, causing them to have difficulty relating their mental models of everyday objects with the structure and functioning of the computer tablet. The main conclusion drawn from this is that current graphical user interfaces, based on the WIMP paradigm, may not be appropriate for this category of users.

Social fildelning på arbetsplatsen : Traditionell och social fildelning

Olsson, Anton, Legeryd, Johan January 2012 (has links)
This paper describes how files and information can be shared in organisations and workplaces. We studied and compared the traditional file sharing in Microsoft Active Directory and the Social file sharing that comes with Microsoft SharePoint Sites. We used qualitative studies based on interviews with system administrators, management and by our own observations to acquire the necessary data. Using independent research, we were able to analyze the data and show the general difference between the traditional and the social file sharing systems. Social file sharing enables the user to easily store and share files in a flexible online environment. Our conclusion is that the traditional file sharing is simple and functional, but lacks the potential that social file sharing brings to the table. The social file sharing systems in the workplace is somewhat similar to the systems used at home which makes it much more user friendly and easier to learn. Although the social file sharing systems places higher demands on the users knowledge, since the administration is handled by the users themselves and not by the system administrator like in the traditional file sharing.

WiFi Hotspots for Reindeer Herding and other Delay-Tolerant Applications

Sjödin, Samuel January 2017 (has links)
Despite continuous advancements in mobile communication technologies, there are rural areas even in developed countries like Sweden that still lack basic forms of connectivity. Sweden’s arctic region suffer from a low cost effectiveness of mobile telecommunication infrastructures which results in a lack of cellular coverage in many areas. In response to these challenges, Tannak AB was founded by two Saami women who had their own solution for the reindeer herding industry. With Tannak’s telemetry network, reindeer are tracked with GPS-equipped collars and information is forwarded in-between base stations before transmitted through the regular cellular network. While reindeer inside these areas may now be tracked, reindeer herders still need Internet access to retrieve this information - which they in some places don’t have. This thesis explores how Tannak’s network could be further utilized to also provide limited connectivity and services to end users, primarily to allow access to tracking information directly form the network. The presented solution includes an interface to Tannak’s network in the form of portable WiFi hotspots, which would be hosted by mobile base stations in the network. The service of accessing tracking information is here implemented and tested between an Android device and a laptop controlling a WiFi module. A developed map based Android application allows viewing reindeer information both from the web and directly from the field network. Furthermore, introducing a power saving schedule specifically adapted to the delay-tolerant nature of the tracking network has shown to decrease hourly battery consumption of the WiFi module by 4/5 to merely 6.8 mAh. This is compared to not using the power schedule, while doing four transmissions per hour over the WiFi interface. The results indicate that the solution could be a valid approach as an end user interface to the tracking system. Based on the properties of the tracking network other possible applications are suggested to be included as well, one being the transmission of text messages to phones in the GSM network.

Knowledge Management Systems Issues Within Organizations

Åkerblom, Pontus, Nilsson, Joacim January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study is to locate if there are some common problems connected to knowledge management systems (KMSs) within organizations. This thesis begins with an introduction to knowledge management (KM) and knowledge management systems, followed by a presentation of previous research in the field of KM problematics. To find these possible issues that may prevent an effective use of KMSs within organizations, we will study contemporary literature and perform some complementary interviews. The questions formulated are addressed to participants from the organization Tieto, at their office in Lund. The questions are kept to a restricted number to gather replies that collect the main answers of relevance. The results from the literature review are then compared to the interviews. The main conclusion of this study is that the organizational culture may affect the possible occurrence of KMSs that suffer from usability problems, which causes the knowledge sharing to be inadequate. Finally; a picture of the problem areas concerning KMSs within organizations arise and some resolutions along with recommendations are presented.
