No. of bitstreams: 0 / Esta dissertação tem por objetivo reportar dados relativos às características elétricas e microestruturais de eletrodos aplicadas em dispositivos armazenadores de energia, especificamente supercapacitores constituídos por eletrodos de carvão ativado. Os parâmetros elétricos estudados foram a resistência em série equivalente obtida pelo método da interrupção de corrente (ESR(Inst)) (sendo que a sigla ESR é oriunda do termo inglês Equivalent Series Resistance), a resistência em paralelo equivalente (EPR(Dep)) obtida pelo método do valor dependente (sendo que a sigla EPR é oriunda do termo inglês Equivalent Parallel Resistance) e a capacitância (C(DC)) obtida pelo método da corrente contínua (sendo que a sigla DC oriunda do termo inglês Direct Current). Tais parâmetros foram escolhidos devido ao impacto que causam no tempo de vida útil, na capacidade de armazenamento de cargas elétricas, na velocidade de carga e descarga, na perda por efeito termoiônico nos processos de carga e descarga e na perda de cargas armazenadas devido à autodescarga em supercapacitores. Os dados microestruturais reportam por meio de imagens a homogeneidade da porosidade e por meio de valores correlacionados a composição química e eventuais contaminações presentes nos eletrodos. Os dados e valores coletados possuem a intenção de servir como referência comparativa de qualidade e apontar qual parâmetro afeta mais a qualidade do supercapacitor. Para tanto foram realizados testes a fim de coletar valores de C(DC), ESR(Inst) e EPR(Dep) após a exposição de supercapacitores de 1F/5,5V a temperaturas de 50ºC, 75ºC, 100ºC e 125ºC por 672 horas, sendo os dados coletados ao inicio dos testes, à temperatura ambiente, e posteriormente a cada 168 horas. Feitos os experimentos concluiu-se que o parâmetro que sofreu maior deterioração com o acréscimo de energia térmica foi a EPR(Dep), em seguida a C(DC), que de fato pouco sofreu alteração e a ESR(Inst), em que a mudança dentro do erro de medição foi imperceptível. / Dissertação (Mestrado em Tecnologia Nuclear) / IPEN/D / Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares - IPEN-CNEN/SP

Entre outras vantagens está o fato de que os sinais medidos podem ser transmitidos em distâncias muito grandes (da ordem de quilômetros), são compactos e leves. A técnica de medida convencional com sensor à FBG necessita de equipamentos de custo muito elevado, tornando-se inviável para aplicações de baixo custo. Neste trabalho apresenta-se uma nova técnica para medir temperatura com sensores a fibra óptica com grades de Bragg. Resultados experimentais de medidas feitas com a técnica desenvolvida mostram que é possível obter uma resolução de 0,5 mºC em medidas realizadas numa faixa de 30ºC. / Abstract: Due to the characteristic of being electrically passive and immune to electromagnetic interference, optical fiber sensors are becoming an excellent choice for several applications, as aerospace, distribution and generation of electrical energy, railway transports, and military equipment. Among other advantages, these sensors are compact, light and the measured signals can be transmitted for very long distances (in the order of kilometers). The existing techniques for temperature measurement using FBG sensors need expensive equipments, and therefore are not suitable for low cost applications. In this work a new technique to measure temperature with a extremely high resolution using FBG sensors is presented. Récupération d'énergie dans les chaussées pour leur maintien hors gel / Harvesting energy in pavements to de-freeze its surface

Les opérations de maintenance des routes en conditions hivernales sur réseaux routiers constituent un enjeu important pour maintenir l’offre de mobilité en situation dégradée. Elles génèrent des coûts d’exploitation directs et indirects élevés, liés en particulier à l’utilisation intensive de fondants routiers. Par ailleurs, leur impact environnemental doit être pris en considération. Nous étudions ici une structure de chaussée non soumise à ce type d’astreinte, grâce à la présence d’une couche de liaison drainante dans laquelle circule un fluide chaud, permettant ainsi d’éviter le dépôt de neige ou la formation de glace en surface. Dans le cadre d’une démarche en faveur de l’emploi d’énergie renouvelable, un tel dispositif pourrait permettre de récupérer l’énergie thermique disponible en surface de chaussée en période chaude, de l’acheminer vers un lieu de stockage (ex : géothermie) et de l’utiliser en période froide. Nous étudions ici la fonction d’échangeur de chaleur entre le fluide et la chaussée, la fonction de stockage externe à la chaussée n’étant pas abordée hormis dans la revue bibliographique. La structure de chaussée considérée comporte trois couches d’enrobés. La couche de roulement et la couche de base sont constituées de matériaux classiquement utilisés dans les chaussées, à base de liants hydrocarbonés. Le matériau de la couche de liaison possède une porosité supérieure à 20%. La structure de chaussée est supposée avoir un dévers de l’ordre de 2%. Une chaussée expérimentale instrumentée a été mise en oeuvre pour recueillir des grandeurs thermo-physiques de la chaussée. Un modèle thermo-hydrique 2D est d2veloppé numériquement pour calculer la distribution de température dans le corps de chaussée lorsque l’on injecte un fluide à température d’entrée donnée, en haut de dévers. Les paramètres du modèle sont identifiés à partir des données expérimentales recueillies sous diverses sollicitations climatiques. On analyse dans un premier temps la sensibilité de la distribution de température en surface de chaussée aux différents paramètres du modèle (conductivité hydraulique, dévers, conductivités thermiques, chaleurs massiques), afin d’optimiser les procédures nécessaires au contrôle sous contraintes de températures positives en tout point. Dans une deuxième partie, des données expérimentales recueillies durant une période estivale d’un mois ont servi à valider le modèle thermique 1D. Une maquette de laboratoire a également permis d’identifier des paramètres en milieu saturé et non saturé. La dernière partie de thèse est consacrée au calcul des quantités énergétiques récupérables pendant la période estivale à l’aide des données de la réglEmentation thermique RT2012. Elles sont comparées aux quantités énergétiques de chauffage nécessaires pendant la période hivernale en s’appuyant sur des données de la RT2012 et des données de la Direction Interdépartementale des Routes Massif (DIR MC) ; l’objectif final étant de déterminer les performances énergétiques du système. / Winter maintenance operations for road networks are an important issue for maintaining the mobility in degraded situations, but generate high direct and indirect exploitation costs, particularly related to the intensive use of road de-icing and environmental impact. We study a road structure free of this penalty, thanks to a bonding drainage asphalt layer, circulated by a hot fluid, to prevent the deposition of snow or ice formation on the road surface. As part of an integrated vision of promoting the use of renewable energy, such device could be used to recuperate the thermal energy available in the road surface during the hot period, to transport it to a storage location (e.g. geothermal) and use it during cold period. We study here the heat exchanger function between the fluid and the road, the external storage function to the road being not addressed. The considered pavement structure has three asphalt layers.The bearing layer and the base layer are formed of conventional materials with hydrocarbon-based binders. The material of the bonding layer has a porosity of 20% and based on the use of a binder resistant to a prolonged circulation of the coolant. The road structure is assumed to have a slope of about 2 to 3%. An instrumented experimental road is implemented to collect data on the thermo-hydraulic response of the pavement structure. A thermo-hydraulic 2D model is designed to simulate the temperature field in the road structure when the fluid is injected at the upslope side of the road with a target temperature. This model is calibrated from experimental data collected on the experimental road subjected to meteorological solicitations. Initially, the sensibility of the distribution of the surface temperature of the road toward various model parameters (hydraulic conductivity, transversal slope, thermal conductivities, heat capacities) is analysed, in order to study the optimization of control procedures allowing to keep positive the road surface temperature at any point (e.g. determination of the minimum fluid injection temperature, under given meteorological data). In a second time, pavement thermal parameters is identified using control optimal method in order to validated unidimensionnel thermal model applied on July experimental data. In third time, hydraulic model is validated experimentaly using a laboratory mockup in saturated and unsaturated conditions. In a fourth time, thermo-hydraulic bidimensionnal model is validated numerically using mesured data of experimental pavement. Finally, harvest energy in summer period using thermal reglementation RT2012 data and heating energy in winter period using RT2012 and Massif Interdepartmental Road Direction (DIR MC) are calculated in order to evaluate system performance.

The main part is the practical part. The purchased system consists of a regulated system, which must be set up correctly. Using system identification and known procedures, sample examples of how to best set the controller are compiled. The result is a sample laboratory task that automation students can try and gain experience with methods of setting up the controller.

The thesis is about designing a house control system which works as decentralized device. Initially, a brief market research in field of intelligent electro installation was made. On the basis of gained knowledge the whole concept of the system was designed – a control unit, a weather station and a temperature control unit. Each part communicates with each other wirelessly. A complete electronic design of circuit boards is a part of the thesis. The board were afterwards produced and assembled. Then a communication protocol and a complete implementation of all system functions were made. Next part of the thesis is a design and a programming of a web interface which is used to control the entire system. The final part of the thesis is about measuring a quality of communication between single units.

Pursuant to identified facts I chose and programmed way of growth cabinet control in PLC AMiNi2DS. To access relevant data and possibilities of adjustment I also created SCADA and HMI. In conclusion I created manual for operating the device and software for acquainted people.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Attitudes: An Exploration of a Landscape of Choices

This study explored energy-related attitudes and energy-saving behaviors that are no- or low-cost and relatively simple to perform. This study relied on two data sources: a longitudinal but cross-sectional survey of 4,102 U.S. residents (five biennial waves of this survey were conducted from 2002 to 2010) and a 2010 cross-sectional survey of 2,000 California residents. These two surveys contained data on two no- and low-cost behaviors: changing thermostat setting to save energy (no-cost behavior) and CFL installation behavior (low-cost behavior). In terms of attitudes, two attitudinal measures emerged from these data following a Cronbach's alpha and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA): the pro-environmental attitude and concern for the energy use in the U.S. society. These two attitudes, along with other socio-demographic and external factors (home ownership, weather, price of energy, etc.), were examined to assess whether attitude-behavior relationships persisted over time, were more prominent across certain groups, or were constrained by income or other socio-demographic factors. Three theoretical viewpoints of how attitudes may relate to behavior guided the analysis on how attitudes and contextual factors may inter-relate either directly or through a moderator variable to affect thermostat-setting and CFL installation behavior. Results from these analyses revealed four important patterns. First, a relationship between the pro-environmental attitude and the two behaviors (thermostat-setting and CFL installation behavior) was weak but persistent across time. Second, financial factors such as income moderated the pro-environmental attitude and CFL installation relationship, indicating that the pro-environmental attitude could influence the behavior in those situations where financial resources are sufficient to comfortably allow the consumer to participate. Third, this study documented that most people reported changing thermostat settings to save energy or having one or more CFLs in their homes. This finding suggests that organizations, policy makers, or energy efficiency program administrators may want to assess whether they should pursue these two behaviors further, since they appear to be very common in the U.S. population. Last, this study showed that thermostat-setting and CFL installation behavior have multi-factorial influences; many factors in addition to attitudes were significantly associated with these behaviors, and all these factors together explained no more than 16% of behavioral variance. This suggested that if energy-saving behaviors are a function of many different variables, of which none appear to be the "silver bullet" in explaining the behaviors (as noted in this study), then policy analysis should explore a broader number of causal pathways and entertain a wider range of interventions to influence consumers to save energy.

Modeling and analysis of an air handling unit to improve energy efficiency

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / The Air Handling Unit (AHU), which serves the entire basement of Engineering and Technology (ET) building on IUPUI campus, had constant set points of discharge air temperature and supply air static pressure. Two reset schedules were investigated to determine which was the best control strategy to minimize energy consumption of the AHU. In this research, a gray box model was established to create the baseline of energy consumption with constant set points and predict the energy savings using two di↵erent reset schedules. The mathematical model was developed in Engineering Equation Solver (EES). It was validated using two sets of sub hourly real time data. The model performance was evaluated employing Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and Root Mean Square Deviation (RMSD). Additionally, uncertainty propagation identified outside air temperature, supply airflow rate and return air temperature were the key parameters that had an impact in overall energy consumption. Discharge air temperature was reset based on return air temperature (RA-T) with a linear reset schedule from March 4 to March 7. Static pressure was reset based on the widest open Variable Air Volume (VAV) box damper from March 20 to March 23. Results indicated that 17% energy savings was achieved using discharge air temperature reset while the energy consumption reduced by 7% using static pressure reset.
