The effect of social relationships on employee retention in a remote working context : A qualitative case study on which Talent Management practices an organisation use to retain talented employees in a remote context / Effekten av sociala relationer för att behålla anställda i en kontext avdistansarbete : En kvalitativ fallstudie om vilka Talent Management-aktiviteteren organisation använder för att behålla talangfulla anställda i en kontext avdistansarbeteSvensson, Julia, Danielsson Wiksell, Linn January 2021 (has links)
Talent Management (TM) is a well-used practice to identify, attract, develop, and retain the most valuable resource in an organisation: talented employees. The concept TM emerged when organisations started to detect increased demands and technological changes in the business market. Additionally, due to the retirement of baby boomers, organisations have started to experience a shortage of talents creating “The War for Talent” (Chambers et al., 1998). However, ethical aspects create a demand for an inclusive approach of TM which includes all employees, as opposed to only focusing on a selected few. Responsible Talent Management (RTM) considers talent to be obtained and developed within the organisation. Employees who experience job satisfaction and commitment are more likely to stay in the organisation (Deery, 2008), whereas work-life balance, employee well-being, leadership, and learning have become important factorsfor increasing job satisfaction and commitment as well as employee retention (Radda et al., 2015: Deery, 2008). Especially due to new challenges associated with the working environment and social relationships in this new remote working context. Researchers express the need for further research regarding RTM as well as the inclusive approach. This thesis, therefore, aims to understand how an organisation work with TM practices to retain talented employees in a remote working context. Based on the scientific issue and the purpose, a qualitative case study was conducted. Eight employees within the HR department were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. The analysis of the empirical data identified a great need for genuine social relationships. Regardless of which TM retainment practices used, supporting employees with tools and opportunities to build and nurture social relationships may be an instrumental driver to retain talented employees in a remote working context. The War for Talent” (Chambers et al., 1998).

A Spatiotemporal Analysis of Aspen Decline in Southern Utah’s Cedar Mountain, Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information SystemsEvans, David M. 01 May 2010 (has links)
Widespread mortality of quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) has occurred over large expanses of the Western US during the 20th century. While much of this decline was due to conifer encroachment into seral aspen, significant aspen losses also occurred in areas of persistent aspen and may have been exasperated by drought conditions. Aspen decline has been especially notable at Cedar Mountain, Utah, an area of mostly private land and extensive persistent aspen coverage. The objectives of this study were to create a time series of live and dead aspen cover on the Cedar Mountain landscape, using remotely sensed imagery, and to test whether water stress correlated to the decline therein. To accomplish these objectives, a decision tree classifier was used to classify the Cedar Mountain area into live and dead aspen cover classes for the years 1985, 1990, 1995, 2001, 2005, and 2008. Thereafter, post-classification change analysis was performed to determine areas and time periods of elevated decline. Regression analyses were performed to ascertain correlations between climatic data and percent change in aspen cover. A topographic analysis using zonal statistics was also performed to determine landscape positions where aspen decline is more prevalent. The time series models indicated that aspen decline followed a step-wise pattern with an overall decrease of 23.57 % in aspen cover during a 23-year period. Considerable aspen decline occurred early in the study time frame, with decreases of 1.38 and 1.36 -1 in 1990 and 1995, respectively. The middle period between 1995 and 2001 had no net change in aspen cover. However, the end of the time series showed the greatest decline with decreases of 1.56 and 1.99 % yr-1 in 2005 and 2008, respectively. There was a correlation between percent change in aspen cover and precipitation, suggesting that drought weakens aspen, making it susceptible to future decline. The topographic zonal statistics revealed that drier landscape positions had greater frequencies of dead aspen. The most significant predictor of aspen decline was elevation, which was significantly greater in the live aspen for three of the five years.

Monocot and dicot weed control with mixtures of quizalofop and florpyrauxifen-benzyl in the Provisia(TM) rice systemSanders, Tameka LaShea 09 August 2019 (has links)
Quizalofop and florpyrauxifen-benzyl are both new herbicides for rice in the midsouthern U.S. Quizalofop is only effective for control of monocot weed species; therefore, mixtures of florpyrauxifen-benzyl with quizalofop could be beneficial in acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase)-resistant rice. Field experiments were conducted at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS, in 2017 and 2018 to evaluate control of monocot and dicot weed species with sequential applications of quizalofop including auxinic herbicides in the first or second treatment. Other field experiments in 2017 and 2018 evaluated sequential applications of different rates of quizalofop with florpyrauxifen-benzyl included in treatments immediately prior to flooding. A final field experiment in 2017 and 2018 evaluated growth and yield of six ACCase-resistant rice cultivars and advanced lines following POST applications of florpyrauxifen-benzyl.

Validation of a voltage-sensitive dye (di-4-ANEPPS)-based method for assessing drug-induced delayed repolarisation in Beagle dog left ventricular midmyocardial myocytesHardy, Matthew E., Pollard, C.E., Small, B.G., Bridgland-Taylor, M., Woods, A.J., Valentin, J.-P., Abi-Gerges, N. January 2009 (has links)
No / Evaluation of drug candidates in in-vitro assays of action potential duration (APD) is one component of preclinical safety assessment. Current assays are limited by technically-demanding, time-consuming electrophysiological methods. This study aimed to assess whether a voltage-sensitive dye-based assay could be used instead.
Methods
Optical APs were recorded using di-4-ANEPPS in electrically field stimulated Beagle left ventricular midmyocardial myocytes (LVMMs). Pharmacological properties of di-4-ANEPPS on the main cardiac ion channels that shape the ventricular AP were investigated using IonWorks™ and conventional electrophysiology. Effects of 9 reference drugs (dofetilide, E4031, d-sotalol, ATXII, cisapride, terfenadine, alfuzosin, diltiazem and pinacidil) with known APD-modulating effects were assessed on optically measured APD at 1 Hz.
Results
Under optimum conditions, 0.1 μM di-4-ANEPPS could be used to monitor APs paced at 1 Hz during nine, 5 s exposures without altering APD. di-4-ANEPPS had no effect on either hIERG, hINa, hIKs and hIto currents in transfected CHO cells (up to 10 µM) or ICa,L current in LVMMs (at 16 µM). di-4-ANEPPS had no effect on APs recorded with microelectrodes at 1 or 0.5 Hz over a period of 30 min di-4-ANEPPS displayed the sensitivity to record changes in optically measured APD in response to altered pacing frequencies and sequential vehicle additions did not affect the optically measured APD. APD data obtained with 9 reference drugs were as expected except (i) d-sotalol-induced increases in duration were smaller than those caused by other IKr blockers and (ii) increases in APD were not detected using low concentrations of terfenadine.
Discussion
Early in drug discovery, the di-4-ANEPPS-based method can reliably be used to assess drug effects on APD as part of a cardiac risk assessment strategy.

Analyse und Modellierung des Reifenübertragungsverhaltens bei transienten und extremen Fahrmanövern / Analysis and modelling of tyre transfer behaviour for transient and extreme driving manoeuvresEinsle, Stefan 11 March 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Due to the growing influence of vehicle dynamic control systems and suspension dimensioning in stability regions, transient and extreme tyre transfer behaviour gains importance significantly. Two new measurement procedures are introduced to analyze and characterize this tyre behaviour. The results show that the commonly used estimation of the relaxation length by the quotient of cornering and lateral stiffness yields far too small values and that the first order transfer model is insufficient to describe the transient tyre lateral force behaviour. Consequently, a new second order approach is introduced and described by the new parameter relaxation damping. The performed parameter study regarding wheel load, inflation pressure, camber angle, toe angle and driving velocity covers a wide application range of tyres. Moreover, the quasi‐static cornering stiffness is measured and evaluated in an extended range with reduced temperature and wear influences. Extreme manoeuvres are utilized to examine the stability of vehicles, which is dominated by the tyre transfer behaviour under extreme conditions. A new measurement and parameter identification procedure for those conditions is portrayed, as well. This thesis depicts the entire process to obtain a tyre model dataset, namely tyre measurements, signal processing, selection of characteristic curves, methodical selection of a tyre model, automatic parameter identification and qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the final dataset. The tyre models MF‐Tyre, FTire, and TM‐Easy are analysed, parameterized and validated under transient and extreme conditions. A comparison of the results in relation to the complexity of the parameter identification and the process stability leads to global recommendations of applications for different tyre models. The quality of the created tyre model datasets in combination with a vehicle suspension is assessed by a comparison of measurements from the newly developed highly dynamical suspension test rig and equivalent multi‐body simulations. That is, transient and extreme manoeuvres are performed and analysed. Additionally, a linear single‐track model with transient tyre behaviour is been derived, that shows the dominant tyre influence on the vehicle’s yaw behaviour. Finally, the influence of the created tyre model datasets and the additional lateral transfer behaviour on full‐vehicle simulations is verified.
