Factors Contributing to the Limited Use of Information Technology in State Courtrooms

Manker, Concetta 01 January 2015 (has links)
Few state courtrooms in the United States have integrated information technology (IT) in court trials. Despite jurors' beliefs that using courtroom technology improves their abilities to serve as jurors, the attitudes and experiences among attorneys and judges toward the utility of IT continue to pose barriers. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore and describe the experiences of attorneys and judges in the State of Virginia with regard limited use of IT in state courtrooms. The conceptual framework included Davis, Bagozzi, and Warshaw's (1989) technology acceptance model; Rogers's (2003) diffusion of innovation theory; and Venkatesh, Morris, Davis, and Davis's (2003) unified theory of acceptance. A snowball sample of 22 attorneys and judges were interviewed using in-depth, semistructured questions. Data were analyzed using open coding techniques to identify themes and patterns with findings supporting the need for improved and expanded courtroom technology. Finding showed that attorneys and judges believed courtroom technology could be useful; however, the lack of training and the cost to implement technology limited their use of technology in courtrooms. Implications for positive social change include increasing the adoption rate of courtroom technology to support courtroom processes and empowering courts to improve the quality of justice through technology in an efficient and effective manner, thereby benefiting everyone in the judicial system and the public.

The impact of social presence on the adoption behavior of mobile services

Hsui, Dorothy Unknown Date (has links)
In this study the technology acceptance model (TAM) serves as the foundation to analyze the behavior of consumers with regards to their use of the smartphone and its associated services. The research also aims to provide a basis for companies that need a complete theoretical framework to better understand the behavior of consumers using smartphones and related services under the intensely competitive environment and constantly evolving changes in consumer demand. The extensive version of TAM will assist in analyzing consumer behavior and influences affecting the use of smartphones, which will be validated through the empirical data collected. This research utilizes one questionnaire to conduct investigations pertaining to the study. Questionnaires were distributed to consumers that use mobile services and/or applications. The majority of the questionnaires were filled out by students in college and graduate institutions in Taipei, Taiwan. In addition, a majority of the subjects who participated have already purchased smartphones. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed and 266 were returned, making a 53.2 % return rate. Results retrieved from this study are as follows: 1. When a user experiences deeper social presence, higher subjective norms are created by the application. 2. When a user experiences deeper social presence, perceived usefulness of the application increases. 3. When a user experiences deeper social presence, perceived ease of use of the application fluctuates. 4. The higher the application’s subjective norms are, the more significant is the increase of the user’s image. 5. The higher the application’s subjective norms are, the more significant is the increase of perceived usefulness 6. As the user’s perceived ease of use of the application increases, the greater the influence becomes on perceived usefulness. 7. The higher the application’s subjective norm is, the more the user’s behavioral intention to use increases. 8. As the application’s perceived usefulness increases, the user’s behavioral intention to use the application also increases. 9. As the user’s perceived ease of use for the application increases, the greater the influence on behavioral intention to use becomes. Undoubtedly, companies need to understand consumer behavior and their use of the smartphones. Consequently, this study seeks to use theories from TAM as a basis and consider principles of external factors influencing a consumer-----social presence and society’s influences. The components of TAM, social presence and society’s influences are analyzed to compile this research.

Nyström, Olof, Pettersson, Caroline January 2007 (has links)
<p>By today’s date there are a lot of companies that are in great need of restructuring their paperwork in a more organized way. This can be excellent arranged with the help of properly constructed computer software. The aviation industry is no exception, but actually a good example of this. Täby Air Maintenance (TAM) is a company which is situated in Örebro. Their main business is aircraft maintenance on a variety of aircraft models. TAM has so far handled their work by hand or with the help of a majority of small computer programmes. The information has now become too abundant and the different kinds of software being used are no longer a working tool for the company. There is therefore a demand for an exhaustive programme which has the capacity to take care of all parts in logistics and production. The purpose is to examine and evaluate three different makes of software and form a recommendation to TAM of which one suits their needs the best. The software was Airsoft, MX System and System Airline Management (SAM). The evaluation has been performed with the help of demo versions of the programmes, manuals and support from contacts at the different manufacturers. The programmes were initially dealt with one at a time and then compared towards each other and towards the demands from TAM. The software which in the end was recommended was SAM, and the decision was based on a number of reasons. The main reason was the user friendliness of the software - the fact that its logical structure makes it easy for its user to swiftly understand the concept and thus learn how to use it quickly. This results in profits, both in time and money.</p> / <p>Idag är många företag i trängande behov av att strukturera upp sitt pappersarbete på ett mer ordnat sätt.

Group Information Behavioural Norms and the Effective Use of a Collaborative Information System: A Case Study

Furness, Colin David 23 February 2011 (has links)
This research investigated whether Group Information Behavioural Norms (GIBNs) are correlated with the effective use of a collaborative information system. Previous research seeking to conceptualize ‘social influence’ in technology adoption has not attempted to include GIBNs. The dependent variable, ‘Effective Use’, comprised two subjective Effectiveness Judgments and three objective Actual Use measures. A mediating variable, ‘Group Adoption’ (GA) of the information system, was conceived as a behavioural expression of group norms and hypothesized to correlate with both GIBNs and Effective Use. It was also hypothesized that GIBNs would have a stronger relationship with Effective Use than the widely used Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) dimensions of Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use. A mixed-methods case study approach was used because measurement of stable norms in workplace groups was required. A medium-sized engineering firm was chosen, and the collaborative information system studied was Knowledge Forum (KF), an educational research tool that was implemented to promote the exchange of information. There were both expected and unexpected results. GIBNs outperformed the TAM in explaining all three Actual Use variables, although the TAM was the sole significant correlate for one Effectiveness Judgment variable. Information Sharing and Proactive Information Use had opposite correlations with Effective Use, suggesting the existence of distinct information ‘sharing’ and ‘proactive use’ group norms. In addition, the TAM and GIBNs seem to have complementary influences on Effective Use. GA was unexpectedly observed to have the strongest relationship with Effective Use, having a significant relationship with four of five Effective Use measures. GA was also observed to mediate the TAM but not GIBNs. The results of a case study cannot be extensively generalized. However, the findings are important in three ways. First, this research provides evidence that GIBNs and the TAM exert complementary influences on Effective Use, and that Effective Use is best explained by also including GA. Second, GA may represent a valuable ‘social influence’ extension to the TAM, as a behavioural expression of group norms for collaborative information systems. Finally, this study illustrates the importance of a multi-dimensional conceptualization of ‘Effective Use’ of an information system.

A Study on User Satisfaction and Acceptance of MOD

Kao, Yu-ting 25 August 2006 (has links)
In an era of digital convergence, people in related fields are devoted to activities of digitalization, especially in digital TV. This research is based on the Information System Success Model from Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and aimed to understand the factors that affect user satisfaction and acceptance behavior. The researcher adopts the methodology of questionnaire survey. After statistical data analyses, the results show the main factor that influences MOD users¡¦ intention to use is perceived usefulness. Furthermore, perceived usefulness is influenced by perceived ease of use and user satisfaction. Three factors related to perceived ease of use and user satisfaction are program content quality, system quality and service quality of MOD. However, the influence of information quality is not significant. This research successfully constructs a technology acceptance model for MOD development and contributes for reference not only to future researches on users concerning innovative technologies but also to specific guidance for MOD operators to improve their services, expediting the development of digital TV in Taiwan.

Understanding Self-Directed Blended Learner¡¦s Usage Behavior of E-Learning System

Lu, Chung-Han 25 April 2008 (has links)
The e-learning system is one of many educational methods that allow flexible learner-centered education. It is also an information system based on the Internet. Hence, the increasing use of the e-learning has provided an inter-disciplinary research opportunity to information systems and educational engineering fields. But the benefits of an e-learning are subjected to the organization¡¦s learning environments, readiness and the acceptance of self-directed users. In other words, self-directed learning (SDL) is a prerequisite to e-learning success. It is important to evaluate the readiness of self-directed users and their acceptance of e-learning system. This paper focuses on examining the applicability of both the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) in explaining adult self-directed users¡¦ acceptance of e-learning system in a blended learning context. The combination of user groups (adult learners), the technology (e-learning system), and the context (blended learning in a higher education institution) is new to IT acceptance researches. The purpose of this research is to shed light on more effective ways to motivate part-time adult learners to use e-learning system in a higher education institution. This study extends both the TAM and UTAUT models with self-directed learning (SDL) concepts. A questionnaire was developed based on previous works in the areas of technology acceptance and SDL. Based on responses from 433 adult blended learners, both SDL-based TAM and UTAUT models were evaluated in terms of overall fit, explanatory power, and their causal links. Overall, findings suggest that TAM may be more appropriate than UTAUT for examining high SDLRS score user group¡¦s e-learning acceptance behaviour; UTAUT may provide e-learning designers and management teams some crucial suggestions to enhance low SDLRS score users¡¦ system utilization. This study also asserts that the successful transition to an e-learning environment requires that the self-directed learners be actively encouraged and supported by their organizations. Results of this study provide reliable and valid SDL-based TAM and UTAUT instruments for organizations to determine whether their learners had the necessary skills for SDL-based blended learning before investing huge budget and time in a large-scale e-learning project. As more organizations experiment with e-learning systems, the SDL-based TAM and UTAUT models could be used to (a) assess the degree of users¡¦ self-directed readiness before e-learning implementation; and (b) evaluate the factors affecting users¡¦ acceptance of new e-learning system and provide useful remedies for improving system utilization rate after e-learning implementation.

Effect of Internet Environment and Information Literacy on Teaching Will with Wireless Network: An Example of Humanities and Art Education of Junior-High Schools in Kaohsiung City

Chen, Mei-yeh 01 February 2009 (has links)
The time for WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is coming. Wireless network, a major trend of urban development nowadays, has become a part of modern life. In addition, all the countries have put emphasis on the application of information technology in the field of education. Thus, Ministry of Education in Taiwan actively promotes how to integrate information technology into teaching. In order to combine policies with the development of technology industry, building a wireless teaching environment in junior high schools is now a benchmark of becoming a clever mobile city for Kaohsiung City. As the prosperity of wireless network technology, mobile learning is now the main stream of the ubiquitous society; that is, utilizing modern technology into teaching has become a trend. This research takes the teachers major in humanities and art and the executive directors in the junior high schools in Kaohsiung City as an object of study, probing into the completion of building wireless teaching environments in these schools, the application of wireless network for teaching in the field of humanities and art, and the information literacy in connection with the will to utilize such technology of these teachers. This research bases on Davis¡¦s Technology Acceptance Model, probing into the usefulness, the ease of use and the will to use of teaching with the wireless network with the construction of the wireless environment in the campus and the information literacy of the teachers by the questionnaires. It adopts SPSS15.0 for Windows as well as Amos 7.0 systems to analyze the data and Structural Equation Modeling to proceed to the causal path analysis of the research structure, testing the causal relationship of each variable in this research. At the same time, it uses the data from the questionnaires and the interviews to mutually confirm the conclusion. According to this research, there are five conclusions: 1¡BGender, the seniority of teaching, the function of office and the scale of the school will affect the usefulness, the ease of use, the will to use and the information literacy of teaching with the wireless network. 2¡BSo far the construction of wireless environment of the junior high schools in Kaohsiung city is still not perfect; specifically, only few schools can expand wireless access points by themselves while other schools still maintain 5 access points offered by the Education Bureau. Thus, the access points are installed only in the conference rooms or the special-function classrooms; they are insufficient for the normal classrooms. 3¡BThe teachers in the field of humanities and art generally use internet resources to teach, but many of them can not directly teach on the internet owing to the insufficiency of wireless environment. 4¡BThe information literacy of the teachers has a notably positive effect on the usefulness, the ease of use and the will to use of teaching with the wireless network. 5¡BThe effectiveness of how WIMAX influence the completion of building wireless teaching environment in junior high schools is not so obvious.

Unknown Date (has links)
In five nucleus sub- industries of the digital content industry, the e-learning industry is the realm that Taiwan has an opposite global competitive advantage. This study bases on the angle of purchaser, quotes from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), tries to construct a valuation model to study how characteristics of e-learning products could influence the consciousness and the product satisfaction of the purchaser. Furthermore, this study will make suggestions to the suppliers according to the statistical analysis. We develop a questionnaire after recognizing the path relations between the variables and the characteristics (convenience, interaction, content abundance) which influence the e-learning product satisfaction through the previous studies. Then carry on analysis and inferences by applying convenience sampling, description statistical analysis, path analysis, and single factor variation analysis etc. According to the valid samples, it induces that middle-class families are the mainly purchaser group of ladder100. And by the path analysis, the results show that the interaction is the most important of three factors which influence the e-learning product satisfaction, and then sequentially the content abundance and the product convenience. The path analysis also reveals that purchasers’ perceived usefulness has greater influence to the e-learning product satisfaction than purchasers’ perceived ease –of –use. By single factor variation analysis, we know that purchasers’ different back ground will influence their product satisfaction.
