This research aimed to understand the construction process of beginning professors in universities. Took as the locus Murialdo School, located in the city of Caxias do Sul, state of Rio Grande do Sul. It is an isolated IES confessional character. With a view to meet the investigative purpose, a qualitative research was developed by listening, through semi-structured interviews, seven teachers from different areas, with up to three years of experience in university teaching. This choice enabled best to set the scope of the study. For the interpretation of the data, the principles of content analysis were used. The main theoretical contributions were based on the Hubermann studies, Marcelo Garcia, Freire, Anastasiou, pepper, Cunha, Mayor Ruiz, Gaetta and Maceto, Isaia, Nóvoa, Shön, Tardif, Zabalza and Zeballos. With a view to achieving the objectives, some issues were central: what motivates professionals from different areas to get involved in university teaching? How do teachers build the knowledge necessary for this profession? What are challenges in the practice of teaching and learning? What do values give the knowledge of the university pedagogy field? What expectations do they have on institutional support in their work? Further expanding the study, we seek to also understand the key experiences that lived in the early years of teaching careers and what they meant for their daily practices. Interested to know also as training and institutional development strategies can be mobilized to strengthen teaching. The data showed the "reality check" by passing the beginner teachers, confirming previous research. They recognize that their knowledge is empirical, inspired by his former teachers and his career as a student. Realize, however, generational changes, which require them an effort to understand their students, their cultures and study conditions. Realize they need knowledge to help them succeed in their work and are committed to exchange of experiences and collaborative training as important alternatives to do so. However, there are few mentions of needs that go beyond the instrumental and pragmatic view of knowledge ordering. Perhaps, given their professional status of origin, there is no awareness of the complexity of teaching as a training space that goes beyond the dimension of expertise. The spaces of institutional training and policies accordingly, are required by teachers entering the top teaching. Still it was not explained more fully in this commitment, becoming the suggestion of the investment required for ongoing formation and located in the very IES, and incentives for post-graduation courses and strict sense. The fragility of the incipient training and institutional support in the academic environment slow down and affect the construction of professionalism, that are more an individual responsibility than in policies that support higher education in the country.

Previous issue date: 2013-11-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / During the mid 1970s, the system was invented VHS. Since then, the production and
dissemination of popular videos and attained the dimension of teacher training. In
this context, also emerged the concept of school productive and accessible to the
whole population, leading the state to offer continued education policies for teachers
of basic education, in order to alleviate problems of initial preparation of these
teachers, preparing them for democratic society that loomed on the horizon. This
analysis is a method contextualization of these programs, with a view to experiences
that occurred in the state of Paraná, through critical reflection of the history of
education and educational policies aimed at teaching task in Brazil. Founded in
critical theories of curriculum, aims to shed light on processes called: continuing
education, continuing education, in-service training offered to teachers of basic
education through continuing education programs for videos of the 1990s. So, were
used as sources the official texts, such as educational law, literature on the subject,
testimony of teachers and graduates of these courses of the videos presented in
these courses as an indication of our employees. Therefore, it was the following path:
in the first part of the text, drew up an overview of the history of teacher education in
Brazil since the first initiatives with the Jesuits (1530) until the period of the military
dictatorship (1985), in second part, there was a discussion about teacher education
in contemporary society and in the third part was tracing the methodological
approach of qualitative research in education, in the fourth part we sought to deepen
the understanding of the distance courses offered in the 1990s by of Teleaulas. It is
considered that the training project presented in 1990, consistent with the historical
tradition of lighter training of teachers in Brazil, especially for teachers of peripheral
cities which, during life, had no access to proper qualification, fitting them training,
retraining and in-service training. It is further considered that there is a certain
optimism exacerbated by the use of information and communication technologies in
teaching office and modernizing discourse that can camouflage conservative policies.
Thus, the history of education can be a way of uncovering such processes in order to

A comparative review of the works of Feldman, Sternberg, Gardner and Eisner and the resulting practical application for the secondary art classroomDenmark, Heather 01 May 2011 (has links)
Some fields come and go, but there will always be a need for older generations to teach the younger generations. For this reason, teachers will always be needed. The material that they choose to teach can sometimes determine the outcome of a nation. Take a look into German and Roman histories; they are littered with teachers convincing students that their way is right. I think that it is imperative that we research the full potential of what we are teaching our students. For that reason, my thesis will consist of analyzing and synthesizing the research of Feldman, Sternberg, Gardner and Eisner, gathering information on their works and applying them to art education. I will apply my findings to the modern day secondary art classroom; whether it is classroom design or visual handouts, I will use the knowledge gathered to better equip the room to the advancement of multiple intelligences in hopes of inspiring my future students to be creative and lifetime learners.

Why Evidence Matters: Examining the Knowledge and Perception of Pre-Service TeachersCampbell, Stefanie 01 December 2014 (has links)
Evidence-based educational policymaking has become a global phenomenon (Wiseman, 2010). According to the Institute of Education Sciences, evidence-based education is "an integration of the professional wisdom and the best available empirical evidence on making decision about how to deliver instructions" (IES, US Department of Education, 2012). This suggests that best practice requires teachers to ensure that instructional strategies and programs implemented in their classroom have been studied in scientific experiments to determine their effectiveness. The general public, as well as practicing teachers, holds an assumption that educators have knowledge as to what is evidence-based education. However, this is not always the case. The objective of this these include: to document how pre-service teachers access research findings and what types of findings they use in their practice, to identify the purposes of its utilization, to identify the factors that influence research utilization, and to ensure the accessibility of the findings of this study. The population for this study will be pre-service teachers at a large public higher education institution and one state college. In order to meet these objectives I conducted a survey, a pre-service teacher focus group, and an interview with faculty. Research findings will impact pre-service teacher preparation programs and increase our understanding of the link between the researchers and educators.

Osobnost učitele v pojetí studentů / Personality of a Teacher in Students' PerceptionSvobodová, Ludmila January 2019 (has links)
The Master thesis with the name "Personality of a Teacher in Students' Perception" is divided into two parts - a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part is divided into four chapters. The first chapter focuses on the personality of a teacher. It describes some typologies of a teacher's personality, individual stages of the teaching profession and selected factors influencing the teacher's personality. The second chapter describes the role of a teacher, the content of his work, and the occupational load which is connected to the teaching profession. Further, it addresses teachers dealing with the burnout syndrome. The third chapter briefly presents the topic of pedagogical communication and the Pygmalion effect. The fourth chapter examines the student - teacher relationship. It aims to describe the characteristics and the significance of this relationship, by which factors it is influenced and what a pedagogue can do for a good relationship. In the second, empirical part, this thesis presents the findings' summary of a quantitative research, which was carried out among students in the form of questionnaires. The aim of this research thesis is to find out how students perceive the teacher's personality, what they value the most about teachers, what they find important about the...

What should religious education aim to achieve? : an investigation into the purpose of religious education in the public sphereHannam, Patricia M. January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the question of what religious education should aim to achieve in the public sphere, and from that comes an interest in what is it that the teacher of religious education should aim to do. My enquiry is located, theoretically as well as conceptually, in the sphere of education. It is an educational study into religious education and situated in what can be termed a ‘Continental construction’ of educational research. I identify that since the inception of religious education in public schools in England, persistent assumptions have been made about both religion and education. I show how this has led, in my view, to conceptualisations of religious education which have been, and continue to be, incomplete. The central chapters of my thesis consider first religion and then education. This allows me to introduce my theoretical base, which is especially but not exclusively drawn from the work of Simone Weil and Hannah Arendt. I develop an argument suggesting that by also understanding religion existentially as faith, rather than as only belief or practice, will open new ways of considering the role of religious education in the public sphere. This is alongside an argument I develop with Arendt for education being conceptualised as bringing the child to action rather than to reason. This thesis argues for a broader understanding of religion, and therefore what it means to live a religious life, in religious education than has previously been considered. I bring this broader way of understanding what it means to live a religious life together with my argument for conceptualising education as bringing the child to action. This enables me to make a new proposal for what religious education should aim to achieve in the public sphere.
