[en] DESIGN OF 2D EDUCATIONAL GAMES OF ADVENTURE USING LUA / [pt] PROJETO DE JOGOS EDUCATIVOS 2D DE AVENTURA USANDO LUA

MICHELE DOS SANTOS SOARES 30 July 2013 (has links)
[en] The computer can be considered an ally the cognitive development of students, especially by enabling the development of a work that adapts itself to different learning rhytms. In the process of teching mathematics, for instance, educational software can contribute to create a scenario that offers opportunities for the students to associate mathematical concepts with his/her quotidian experiences, without losing losing funny aspects and motivation. Homewer, a problem faced by educators in the use of educational software is the limited flexibility of the avaliable sytems. In most of the educational games in the market, one can only experience static contents and rigid structures. An educational games with static contents acts within a specific context and once the use learns those contents the games fails to provide challenges to the player and loses all the fun. As an attempt to alliviate the consequences of those problems, this work presents a framework for the design of educational 2D games in the adventure style that facilities the definition of objects and behaviors by educators and artists, from the integration of a Lua script layer with a 2D game engine.

Contributions of the history of mathematics in teaching the relation between fraction and decimal notation

Palazzo, Camila Cristina Carvalho 30 April 2019 (has links)
This research was developed to propose a teaching activity that relates the fraction to the decimal notation, using the History of Mathematics. The question that permeated this qualitative research was: What are the contributions of the History of Mathematics to the teaching of decimal notation in the 6th and 7th year of elementary school? The methodology used was the historical-bibliographic, also known as documentary study. For this, it was decided to study the contributions that history brings to Mathematics Education. Afterwards, the content of rational numbers was analyzed in the official curricula that are the National Curricular Parameters and the National Curricular Common Base, as well as the curricular reference of the didactic material of the Social Service of Industry (SESI-SP). After analyzing what is expected of the Mathematics curriculum, specifically the rational numbers of the 6th and 7th grades, we analyzed SESI-SP textbook chapters and 7 books approved by the National Book and Didactic Material Program, which deal specifically with the contents of transformation from fraction to decimal notation. We also did a research to try to understand more deeply the historical elements that contributed to the relationship between a certain type of fraction and its decimal notation in the present day, so we can better understand and be able to better teach this aspect of school mathematics. At the end, the proposed activity is presented and how it can contribute to the teaching of the relation between fraction and decimal notation.

Lesotho high school learners' understandings of the nature of scientific inquiry in relation to classroom experiences.

Lematla, Lieketseng Justinah 09 February 2012 (has links)
This study investigates learners‟ understandings of the nature of scientific inquiry (NOSI) in relation to their classroom experiences. Using the constructs of nature of scientific inquiry; inquiry-based teaching and learning; and principles of scientific inquiry as theoretical lenses, the study empirically explored learners‟ (n = 120) understandings of the nature of scientific inquiry which were captured through a questionnaire called Learners‟ understanding of science and scientific inquiry (LUSSI) and interviews and their perceptions of classroom inquiry (their experiences of inquiry were elicited through a questionnaire called Principles of scientific inquiry- student (PSI-S) and interviews). The participants were one hundred and twenty learners, 60 from each of two schools in an Education District in Lesotho. Eight learners, four from each school participated in the interviews. At the centre, the investigation sought to understand whether there was any relationship between learners‟ perceptions of their experiences of scientific inquiry and their understandings of the nature of scientific inquiry. As a result, this study was guided by the following questions: what are learners‟ understandings of the nature of scientific inquiry? What are learners‟ perceptions of their experiences of scientific inquiry? Are learners‟ understandings of NOSI in any way related to their experiences of scientific inquiry? Typological approach was used to analyse the qualitative data and descriptive statistics for analysing the quantitative data. The results of this study suggest that learners hold less informed understandings of the nature of scientific inquiry and that learners are experiencing closed-inquiry in their science classroom. The results also show that other learners‟ experiences of scientific inquiry are not related to their understandings of the nature of scientific inquiry. It was recommended that teachers should engage learners in inquiry activities rather than always carrying out teacher-demonstrations. It is also recommended that further studies should be done in Lesotho to examine the relationship between learners‟ understandings of NOSI and their perceptions of their classroom experiences.

A study of students' approaches to learning in business accounting, at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Townsend, Pamela 22 February 2010 (has links)
In order to enhance teaching it is important to understand how students learn. The aim of this study was to discover the interventions needed to enhance the support offered by teachers and tutors in a Business Accounting programme to develop in students an intrinsic motivation and deep learning strategy which could be used later in life in other areas of study. The data came from a number of sources, including the Biggs’ revised two-factor Study Process Questionnaire: R-SPQ-2F, administered to students. The second source was tutors’ responses to a set of questions, and the third source was an interview held with an experienced tutor. In the main, the data was analysed using phenomenographic methodology. The study yielded valuable insights into the tutorial context and tutors’ perceptions of the factors that hinder or enhance student learning.

The role of the school principal in monitoring teaching and learning : case schools in the Gauteng Province, a study of two secondary schools.

Omal, Felix 08 March 2012 (has links)
The core purpose of school leadership is to provide leadership and management in all areas of the school to enable the creation and support of conditions under which high quality teaching and learning can take place and which can promote the highest possible standards of learner achievement. This study aimed to examine the roles of the school principals in monitoring teaching and learning in inner-city and township secondary schools in the Gauteng province. The study used a case study research design in which one inner-city and township secondary schools were purposely selected as cases for the study. The school principals, deputy school principals, heads of departments and educators were observed over a period of fourteen days in each school after which were interviewed. Both the observation and interview protocols were piloted. All interviews were tape recorded and confidentiality was assured. Interviews were transcribed and analysed through content analysis (Strauss1987).Emerging themes were used to create a comparative data set across the stakeholders’ content analysis. The analyses were then triangulated as a means of establishing the trustworthiness of the accounts. Observations and questions focussed upon the roles of the school principal in monitoring teaching and learning with reference to the school curriculum, the tools school principals use in monitoring teaching and learning and how school principals monitor teaching and learning in such schooling contexts. They indicate that the role of school principals as instructional leaders in monitoring teaching and learning is supervision which involves leadership roles in educator professional development, curriculum supervision, collegiality, care and response. They not only indicate the complex contextual roles of school principals in monitoring teaching and learning in the challenging circumstances in the inner-city and township secondary schools, but the mechanisms school principals use to monitor teaching and learning in such contexts. School principals minimally participate in the monitoring of teaching and learning and rely on feedback from classroom observations and learner data collected by the deputy school principals’, heads of departments/ subject heads and class educators to monitor learner performances in the schools.

January 2008 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: This work is part of the project TELETANDEM BRASIL - Foreign Languages for all, developed by UNESP (Campus of São José do Rio Preto) in partnership with many international institutions and with the purpose of putting pairs of foreign university students in touch with Brazilian university students to learn the languages of each other through the resources of reading, writing, audio and video of the MSN Live Messenger, Skype and OOVO - a TELETANDEM. Therefore, this dissertation has the purpose of investigating the beliefs on evaluation brought by a mediator and one Brazilian Teletandem partner, and how they interact in the construction of the process of teaching and learning in the distance tandem. The theoretical underpinnings for this research are studies about: (a) beliefs of teaching and learning and assessment, (b) evaluation in the process of teaching and learning, (c) concepts and visions of error in language teaching, and (d) technology applied to education. For the data collection, the following instruments were used: a) questionnaires, b) chat recordings of the interactions, c) audio recordings of mediations, d) autobiography of the participants, e) diaries of the interactions and mediations. For the analysis of the data, a triangulation was made from the collected data, interactions were considered the primary data, and from them, all the other data were used for the confirmation or not of the points found. Through the data analysis, it was inferred that the Brazilian partner, when in the role of the teacher, was mainly concerned with communication and not with correction of errors, showing therefore, signs of an evaluation close to the principles of the mediator evaluation. However, as student, although the mediator tried to show her that there was no problem about making mistakes, she remained concerned about not making them. This behavior is a sign of traditional evaluation... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Diversidade metodológica como estratégia para a apredizagem significativa de conceitos de biologia / Methodological diversity as a strategy for meaningful learning of biology concepts

Sant Anna, Karla Simões de 14 December 2016 (has links)
In eight years of experience teaching classes to high school, it was revealed the continued shortfalls in relation to biology concepts, especially with regard to the structure of DNA and how protein synthesis is performed. There is great difficulty students understand these concepts, and it occurs most likely because it is a matter of great abstraction, and that requires a certain amount of imagination and creativity, as these structures are only displayed through pictures in books, making it difficult so assimilation and understanding of the subject The objective of this study was to investigate whether the use of different methodologies (seminars, preparation games and video production) contributes to the process of teaching and learning, promoting a meaningful and effective learning about the concepts of cytology, DNA and protein synthesis. The survey was conducted with two groups of 25 students of the 2nd year of high school, being applied to methodological diversity in the class 1 and class 2 in the traditional method (control). Questionnaires were administered before and after the use of methodological strategies described above. The collected data show that the use of diferente methodologies contributes to the learning process of student.

O ensino de filosofia - uma prática na Escola de Aplicação da FE-USP / The teaching Philosophy - a practice at Escola de Aplicação da FE-USP

Alencar, Marta Vitória de 01 July 2011 (has links)
This work offers a circumstanced analysis of the practice of teaching of Philosophy in the High School at Escola de Aplicação of University of Sao Paulo Education College (EAFE-USP), along ten years and a half. Here, the goal is, considering some theoretical presuppositions, to produce an analysis of this teaching experience, and also to offer some contribution to the practice of teaching Philosophy in High School. We intended to expose the obstacles that are usually faced by beginner teachers (recent bachelors), when they have to deal with the demands of the syllabus, which not always befit the specific content of Philosophy or students, that often do not have minimal necessary prerequisites to start a philosophical work. We aimed to search answers concerning the nature of the discipline, its limits and the possible pedagogical actions that satisfy minimally the students formation. Focusing on this, we researched this theme in the literature in order to confront propositions and diagnosis in teaching practice. We also presented some of the philosophy teaching syllabus adopted at Escola da Aplicação between 2001 and 2011. In this trajectory, we sought to fully expose the adopted didactic strategies: the ones which had well succeeded and the others that showed failures, thus being abandoned. Furthermore, we analyzed the writing production as well as the testimony of previous students concerning philosophy in high school.

O transbordamento do lúdico e da biopolítica em jogos Massive Multiplayer online: um estudo sobre World of Warcraft / The overflow of ludic and biopolitics in Massive Multiplayer Online games: a study on the World of Warcraft

Chagas, Artur Alves de Oliveira 12 August 2010 (has links)
The segment of computer games called Massively Multiplayer Online, in which thousands of people can be connected simultaneously, are taken as examples of current collective games. From the analysis of Michel Foucault\'s biopolitics, are investigated the identity constructions of individuals, social roles and commitments with other players and the learning and disciplines reinforced in such games, with reference to the game World of Warcraft, the most popular of this genre, today. The fieldwork was carried out with players and with the official websites of the selected game, through which the regimes of truths that concern us here. Cyberculture is understood in this work as a condition of social engineering that reconfigures the distances and the physical and temporal boundaries, reinforcing ways of subjection ever more individualized and referenced by speeches of sprawling groups. The type of game considered in this work, in addition to become popular by employing tools and practices peculiar to the new electronic technologies, favors the analysis that the forms of government and control over life are increasingly refined, overflowing by all planes of existence. Such analysis allows the questioning of scientific discourse, mainly in the last decade, about practices among subjects involving games, and mainly when referring to practices in education and learning.

Arquiteturas pedagógicas inovadoras nos mestrados profissionais em Administração / Innovative pedagogical architectures in professional masters in Business Administration.

Bittencourt, João Paulo 07 April 2016 (has links)
The Professional Masters in Business Administration (PMAs) were created as responses to the challenge of approach both contemporary reality and academic research, as well as to allow for the expansion of the Brazilian graduate through self-financed courses. As a relatively new type of course in the country, it represents opportunities for renewal and instigate discussions about its goals, identity and results. Among the aspects that can be renewed in the Administration area through the MPs is the model of teaching and learning. This work aimed to analyze the use of Innovative Pedagogical Architectures (IPA) in MPAs in Brazil, its current state, characteristics, strengths and challenges. The Pedagogical Architecture (PA) consists in four elements: a) organizational aspects, b) aspects of content, c) methodological aspects, and d) technological aspects (Behar, 2009; 2011). The theoretical framework aimed to propose the concept of Innovative Pedagogical Architectures which occur when the AP\'s configuration provides and instigates active learning (Anthony, 1996; Bonwell & Eison, 1991; Koohang, 2012; Loeb, 2014; Michael , 2006; Niemi, 2002; Sawyer, 2011), meaningful learning (Ausubel, 2000; Hay, 2007; Huang, Chiu, Liu, & Chen, 2011; Novak & Cañas, 2010; Novak, 2002; Saiia, Macy, & Boyd, 2008) and collaborative learning (Fischer, Bruhn, Gräsel, & Mandl, 2002; Grau & Whitebread, 2012; Jang, 2015; Kreijns, Kirschner, & Jochems, 2003; Nussbaum, Alvarez, McFarlane, Gomez Bright & Radovic, 2009; Sawyer & DeZutter, 2009; Strijbos & Fischer, 2007). The methodology had a qualitative approach and was divided into two stages: first, we interviewed 12 Brazilian experts in PMAs in order to identify innovations in teaching and learning models in these programs. In the second stage four cases were selected to study, with the focus on the unit of analysis: The Pedagogical Architecture of the disciplines. We conducted 34 interviews, which resulted in a total of 1,704 minutes, which were transcribed and analyzed, as well as the 40 documents related to the cases. Data analysis was based on the qualitative data analysis model proposed by Miles, Huberman, & Saldaña (2014), as this model allows condensation, exhibition, drawing and verifying conclusions, valuing the richness of collected data. The results allowed to propose a theoretical model and a typology for the IPAs, based on the continuum of each dimension: Passive and Active learning; Rote and Meaningful learning; and Independent and Collaborative learning. The settings found in the cases studied were: Case 1 (ASC +, which means that the PA promoted active, meaningful and collaborative learning with high rates); Case 2 (ASC, active, meaningful and collaborative learning); Case 3 (SC, promoted meaningful and collaborative learning, but got zero score in the dimension of active/passive learning); and Case 4 (PSC, as it promoted passive, meaningful and collaborative learning). Innovative Pedagogical Architectures found in the case studies allowed us to validate and complement the proposed theoretical model. The vision of IPAs enables each teacher or group of teachers to find their way to promote active, meaningful and collaborative learning, but requires clarity of purpose, seeking for a consistent relationship between aspects of architecture and knowledge of educators on learning methods applied
