This work offers a circumstanced analysis of the practice of teaching of Philosophy in the High School at Escola de Aplicação of University of Sao Paulo Education College (EAFE-USP), along ten years and a half. Here, the goal is, considering some theoretical presuppositions, to produce an analysis of this teaching experience, and also to offer some contribution to the practice of teaching Philosophy in High School. We intended to expose the obstacles that are usually faced by beginner teachers (recent bachelors), when they have to deal with the demands of the syllabus, which not always befit the specific content of Philosophy or students, that often do not have minimal necessary prerequisites to start a philosophical work. We aimed to search answers concerning the nature of the discipline, its limits and the possible pedagogical actions that satisfy minimally the students formation. Focusing on this, we researched this theme in the literature in order to confront propositions and diagnosis in teaching practice. We also presented some of the philosophy teaching syllabus adopted at Escola da Aplicação between 2001 and 2011. In this trajectory, we sought to fully expose the adopted didactic strategies: the ones which had well succeeded and the others that showed failures, thus being abandoned. Furthermore, we analyzed the writing production as well as the testimony of previous students concerning philosophy in high school.

Challenges of integrating theory and practice in social work teaching and learningCarelse, Shernaaz January 2010 (has links)
Magister Artium (Social Work) - MA(SW) / Global and national standards for social work training have for a very long time required that institutions of higher learning include a theoretical as well as a practical component into the social work programme. The integration of theory and practice is purposefully
aimed at enhancing the student's competency and skills (SAQA, 2003:9). The introduction of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) in South Africa (Government Gazette No. 19640, 1998) has confirmed the need for addressing challenges relating to integration of theory and practice. Assessments of social work fieldwork competence at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) indicate that the majority of the students in the third year of study struggle to integrate theory and practice resulting in low level competence in Intermediate Fieldwork Education (University of the Western Cape Quality assurance report: Intermediate Fieldwork, 2007). In addition to the aforementioned, student reports indicate that there is a perception that the classroom learning, the supervision and fieldwork practice often are not sufficient to facilitate the integration of theory and practice. The lack of integration of theory and practice results in students not achieving the expected learning outcomes. This is an urgent concern in social work education and it seems most appropriate to learn from the people who are closely affected by and involved in this issue. The focus of the study was thus on the challenges experienced by social work students, their lecturers and fieldwork supervisors at UWC regarding the integration of theory and practice at intermediate level in the context of OBE. Hence I used a qualitative approach as I wanted to study the challenges of theory and practice integration from an insiders' perspective. This is appropriate when the goal of research is to describe and understand a social issue. For this reason I selected an exploratory-descriptive research design and an instrumental research strategy to study the issue of theory and practice integration in the selected programme. The population of the study was third year social work students at UWC and also a selected group of third year social 'work students from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), social work lecturers from UWC and field supervisors form agencies in the Western Cape where social work students are placed. Purposive sampling were utilized to select sixteen third year social work students from UWC, seven NMMU students, sixteen field supervisors and eight lecturers from UWC. Data were collected by means of individual interviews as well as focus group sessions
from students and field supervisors and by means of written responses to an open -ended guide from lecturers. Data were analyzed by means of thematic, content analysis. Relevant literature findings on constructivism, cooperative learning and social work teaching and learning in particular were compared to the findings of the case study exploration. Literature pertaining to social work teaching and learning in the context of ELOs is limited and therefore further justifies the need for this research. The findings indicated that participants in this study experienced challenges with regard to theory and practice integration on various levels and to different extents. They attribute
these challenges to a variety of factors relating to the construction of knowledge in the classroom and in the fieldwork setting as well as personal challenges experienced by students. Hence I made various recommendations with regard to collaborative teaching and learning strategies within the classroom and fieldwork setting as well recommendations based on the conclusions of findings relating to students' personal challenges.

Estratégias de ensino-aprendizagem de ciências no Ensino Fundamental I para o início da alfabetização e letramento científico e atuação na ZDP / Science teaching and learning strategies in Elementary School to the beginning of early and scientific literacies and operation in the ZPDCosta, Fabiola Nogueira 23 November 2016 (has links)
The present research, with qualitative approach, aimed to examine strategies focused on Elementary School students to promote the beginning of early and scientific literacies, both to be developed along Basic Education. To that end, it was based on the following questions: How to work in a way that takes the student to the learning of natural sciences and the development of abilities that are fundamental to the formation of the early and scientific literate individual, as fixed by the National Curriculum Parameters (NCP)? What kind of text would be more interesting to the pedagogical practice with focus on that learning? Working with students from the 3rd grade of the Elementary School, cycle I, of a public school of the Municipal Education System of Guaratinguetá-SP, the research used literature circles as a methodology for teaching and learning Natural Sciences contents. Electing scientific divulgation texts of the magazine Ciência Hoje das Crianças - CHC as support, the research developed the stages of application of the literature circles activities, evaluated through the observation and analysis of the oral interactions and complementary activities of oral, iconic and scenic representation of the knowledge, besides game sessions. The results reveal the main role of the more capable partner acting in the ZPD during the interactions, contributing favorably to the introduction of the student into the universe of science as a school knowledge, initiating his early and scientific literacies process and developing better comprehension and interest in the Natural Science contents. As a result, many perspectives were open up to the elaboration of a heuristic that the teacher will be able to take into account if he has an effective operation in the ZPD and the student initiation in the early and scientific literacies processes as goals.

Alignment of the emerging management development programme(EMDP) to the human resource development strategy for the South African public serviceBoshomane, Lekau Godfrey 11 1900 (has links)
The focus of this research is to understand the relevance of the Human Resource Development Strategy for the functioning of South African Public Service and its implications for the Emerging Management Development Programme (EMDP).
One of the main challenges of the Human Resource Development Strategy (HRDS) is its translation into well designed training programmes that are aligned with the goals and objectives of the strategy. The Emerging Management Development Programme (EMDP) is meant to be the translation and interpretation of the HRDS for public sector training and development on emerging management level.
The intention of this study is to evaluate, analyse and understand the alignment of the EMDP with the Human Resource Development Strategy for the South African pubic service and subsequently suggest proposals for the possible improvement of emerging middle management development.
The objectives of the research will be stated in the form of two critical questions:
What are the main directives in the Human Resource Development Strategy for the Public Service regarding management development in general, and the gaps in the design and development of the Emerging Management Development Programme (EMDP) in particular?
How does the design and development of the current EMDP meet the strategic vision for management development as envisioned in the Human Resource Development Strategy for the Public Service?
The research methodology applied in this study, is a qualitative research approach. This approach focuses on phenomena that occur in natural settings, i.e. in the real world and involve studying those phenomena in all of their complexity which is used to gather data. This data is preserved in descriptive narratives. A qualitative research approach also uses mainly the constructivist-interpretive perspective.
The key finding is that as much as the EMDP is comprehensive, it is however not yet aligned with the Human Resource Development Strategy of the South African Public Service. The recommendation is that the conversion of the objectives of HRDS-SA into the learning outcomes of the EMDP in order to provide a framework for a comprehensive base of competencies that inform the curriculation of the EMDP is important. This will ensure that the learners are able to benefit from a multitude of skills development activities in the programme and, in so doing, render them more purposeful to improve their impact on the skills challenges of the country. / Public Administration and Management / M.
