Richit, Adriana. January 2005 (has links)
A study was conducted with students in the Mathematics Teaching License Program at the State University of São Paulo, Rio Claro Campus, SP, Brazil, who developed analytic geometry teaching activities using the software Geometricks. The combination of work with projects and the use of the dynamic geometric software, in the context of the Analytic Geometry, proved to be a pedagogical strategy that was favorable to their initiation into teaching mathematics as concerns the construction of specific knowledge in this area, and contributed to the participants' ability to develop knowledge about the pedagogical use of the Geometricks software. Through this lens, the focus of the study lies in the possibilities that emerge from the approach to teaching future mathematics teachers described above, having as an assumption the need to develop the necessary competencies to incorporate information technology into their practice, to the extent that their educational process will promote the use of these resources in the context of their educational experience in their university program. This educational experience can even provide them with tools that can contribute to changing existing educational processes. Moreover, we consider that this study points to perspectives for the implementation of change in the educational context, as a consequence of the reflections regarding the educational process of mathematics teachers, which should be in consonance with the transformations in contemporary society... / TRAINING OF TEACHERS REFLECTIVE / RESEARCHER IN A DEGREE COURSE IN CHEMISTRY OF NORTHEAST BRAZIL: limits and possibilities.

Lima, João Paulo Mendonça 21 March 2011 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The quality of teaching/learning of chemistry has been the subject of several discussions, having its favored comprehension by the need to better understand how the process is occurring in the initial formation of teachers of Chemistry. Formation of teachers has undergone several criticisms regarding the dissociation between theory and practice, the presence of a Technical rationality and formation models that approach a course with features of Baccalaureate. Thus, from the changes after the implementation of new Curriculum Guidelines for Graduation Courses (2002), we understand the contributions of increased and incorporation of disciplines and pedagogical practice along a degree course in Chemistry Graduation Course. This first analysis gave us some indication, but brings no guarantees about the understanding of the formation as it has the chemistry teacher. This way, we seek through interviews analyze the opinions of five formers about developed activities in the Graduation Course in Chemistry in Brazilian Northeast by conducting a case study. We analyze the proximity among course teachers and the teachers of the basic education, as well as their opinions about the characteristics and profile of the first class of graduates. This analysis was essential to achieve the main objective of the study, which was investigating the limits and possibilities of the formation of a teaching/learning teacher in Chemistry Graduation Course. The discussion of this work contributes to the understanding of various present problems in the process initial of Chemistry. The study shows that, though occurred advances in the structure of the curriculum in undergraduate chemistry and good prospects in improving the formation of undergraduates, the limitations made by the models of formation experienced by some teachers, our public politics, work implemented in isolation form, and short period of operation of the course are shown as limiting factors for a better quality of the proposal to form the reflective/researcher teacher, while we have identified some possibilities for teacher formation with the profile mainly due to concern about the quality of formation that is offered to undergraduates by former teachers of the course beyond the activities and attempt to overcome these problems in the course structure and the proper conception of the goals to be achieved during the initial formation process in the course graduation in Chemistry.

This research's objective is to analyze mathematics teaching techniques of three Literacy Cycle teachers. These teachers, the research subjects, participated during 2014 of a continued education program under the Pacto Nacional pela Alfabetização da Idade Certa (PNAIC) andare acting in public schools in the city of Recife/Pe. To accomplish it, we identified the general pedagogical knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, and curriculum knowledge mobilized by polyvalent teachers that act in the Literacy Cycle characterizing the way teaching is organized in mathematic classes. The theoretical assumption in which we are inclined is that the teacher's knowledge base is that of Lee S. Shulman’s research. The field work was done through class observations, records in the observation notepad, and semi-structured interviews. This research also leadedus to identify how mathematics is explored inside the classroom, the didactic resources use and choice (with feature: the book, board and notebook) and pedagogical reasoning behind teacher knowledge. Based on the data collected, we noticed teacher’spractice is unique and has not been as guided as it should be by the teacher’sactivity elements: planning and curriculum. We realized teacher needs to developthroughknowledge base new strategies to surpass: other knowledge areas teaching prioritization but math, focus better in one specific content block and the mathematics perception and involvement worked mostly formally and in an explicit way.

Video-enhanced Reflection in Iran: Impacts of Gender and Experience

Kavoshian, Saeedeh, Ketabi, Saeed, Tavakoli, Mansoor, Köhler, Thomas January 2017 (has links)
The present study aimed at investigating the video-enhanced reflections of Iranian EFL teachers. It also made an attempt to cast light on the differences between male and female teachers’ video-enhanced self-reflections of their own teaching process. Moreover, the role of experience in changing their video-enhanced reflection was explored. Applying instruments like video-recording, reflection checklists and semi-structured interviews, this study implemented a mixed-method approach with a triangulation design focusing on both quantitative and qualitative data. The findings of the study demonstrate that the video-enhanced reflections of Iranian EFL teachers mostly pivot around issues consisting of innovative teaching strategies, classroom management, learners’ characteristics, classroom interactions, teacher talk, organization of the lessons, technology resources and visual aids. Results also show that the above-mentioned reflections are both experience and gender-sensitive.

Morale and motivation of teachers in Nigeri

Chigbu, Vitalis Margaret Chinyeremma January 2006 (has links)
This study is an investigation into the morale and motivation of Nigerian teachers. Due to the geographical and administrative vastness of Nigeria this study focuses on Abia State. Abia is one of the 36 States of Nigeria and it typifies the educational structure and practice of Nigeria The study involves teachers and students from two primary and two secondary schools from each of the educational zones in Abia (a total of 12 schools). A focus group of 37 headteachers across Abia State will also be studied and the views of a cross section of students (12 students from each secondary school) are sought. The background information on education in Nigeria and Abia State as well as the reasons for this study are discussed in the introduction. A review of the literature on morale and motivation in African countries and other international studies is presented. The study employs ethnographic multiple case study and focus group methods which included a semi-structured focus group interview, participant observation and a self-administered questionnaire. Research methods and findings are discussed and analysed and from these emerged a motivation model. The study concludes with a discussion and evaluation of the findings. Obviously, any research work of this magnitude would have its limitations. These will be discussed. Recommendations for future research and developments towards improving the morale and motivation of teachers in Nigeria would follow.
