Trata-se de uma investigação acerca da teatralização do poder, tendo como suporte a construção simbólica e imagética. Conduzimos teoricamente nossa pesquisa a partir do debate com a Nova História Política, nessa fundamentação, diálogo com os autores do campo da teatrocracia, como Balandier e Geertz. Adotamos como fonte de pesquisa o jornal Diário da Borborema que circulava no período em análise, além dos livros de Ata da Câmara dos Vereadores de Campina Grande, músicas produzidas para o centenário, álbum de figurinhas e fotografias sobre o evento festivo. Metodologicamente nos pautamos pela análise das falas, impressões e observações produzidas do contato com nossas fontes, com a preocupação de irmos além do meramente escrito, no sentido de compreender seus discursos como resultantes das relações de poder. Neste cenário, pretendemos decodificar as festas, os ritos e os cerimoniais como as letras de um alfabeto. / As readers eager for new horizons and landscapes of the past, invite them to this path in search of new meanings about the centenary of Campina Grande (1964). This is an investigation about the theatricality of power, supported the construction and symbolic imagery. We conduct our research theoretically from the debate with the New Political History, in this reasoning, dialogue with the authors in the field of teatrocracia as Balandier and Geertz. We adopt as a research newspaper Diário da Borborema that circulated in the period, and the books of the Minutes of the City Council of Campina Grande, songs produced for the centenary, sticker album and photographs about the festive event. Methodologically we have guided the analysis of discourse, impressions and observations produced contact with our sources, with the worry of going beyond the purely written, in order to understand their speech because of power relations. In this scenario, we want to decode the festivals, rites and ceremonies like the letters of an alphabet.

No. of bitstreams: 1 FABRÍCIO PEREIRA DOS SANTOS - DISSERTAÇÃO PPGH 2014..pdf: 2492530 bytes, checksum: af36600f7e638939122e0bfe9ee31d4b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014 / Este estudo procura analisar e compreender alguns fenômenos políticos e culturais presentes na história da cidade de Campina Grande no final da década de 1950 e início da década de 1960, período em que o prefeito Severino Cabral canalizou, em suas teatralizações do poder, os símbolos e representações sobre a cidade que a faziam se identificar com os ideais de progresso e modernização, característicos da política desenvolvimentista do Presidente da nação Juscelino Kubitschek. Ao mesmo tempo, outros referenciais simbólicos da política nacional também pesariam na construção da imagem política de Cabral na cidade, como as representações sobre coronelismo, populismo e clientelismo. Tendo como fonte principal os jornais impressos do período estudado e a literatura de cordel, este trabalho tem como ponto de partida a campanha eleitoral municipal de 1959 na construção dessas representações, e apresentando as diferentes faces de Cabral como personagem político, através das quais as diferentes representações populares sobre Cabral tomaram forma, levando em consideração as características peculiares da conjuntura política, social e cultural da Campina Grande do período estudado. Através da análise do estilo de política conciliadora de Cabral, algumas imagens sobre a cidade emergem neste trabalho: imagens de modernidade, do passado agrário e comerciário da cidade, do estilo de política assistencialista e dos anseios de progresso e industrialização, vislumbrando Cabral como uma figura política arquetípica para a história política da cidade. / This study seeks to analyze and understand some political and cultural phenomena present in the history of the city of Campina Grande in the late 1950s and early 1960s, during which Mayor Severino Cabral channeled, in his theatralization of politics, symbols and representations about the city that made her identify with the ideals of progress and modernization, characteristic of the developmentalist policy of the nation's President Juscelino Kubitschek. At the same time, other symbolic references of national politics also weigh in building the political image of Cabral in the city, such as the representations of Coronelismo, populism and clientelism. Taking as its starting point the 1959 municipal election campaign in the construction of these representations, and presenting the different faces of Cabral as a political figure, this study also aims to outline the formation of a particular urban imaginary, in which popular representations about Cabral took shape, leading into account the peculiarities of the political, social and cultural Campina Grande of the studied period. Through analysis of the style of Cabral’s conciliatory policy, several images of the city emerge in this work: images of modernity, the city’s commercial and agricultural past, the policy of social handouts and the wishes of progress and industrialization, glimpsing Cabral as an archetypal political figure to the political history of the city.
