Electrical installations are one of the foremost subsystems within the multidisciplinary reality of a civil construction project, since its inadequacy may lead to hazardous consequences, resulting not only in the need to rerun services but also in fire occurrence. To develop a good design, the professional should be aware of all its stages, which begin with the contact with the client, require attention to norms and specific regulations, and culminate in the delivery of the product and feedback. However, such process is not always followed among Brazilian professionals, who are unaware of the rules and therefore have the mistaken understanding that a design would only consist of a set of drawings, resulting in little attention to other necessary documentation. The aim of this study is to propose procedures for the management of the design of low-voltage electrical installations of buildings within the project as a whole and its compatibility with other designs, regarding attention to relevant standards. The standard base from which other rules of specific nature derive is the ABNT NBR 5410. In addition to the literature review, the significant contribution of my 25 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, both in the private sector and in the public sector, was used in this work. The need to review the training of professionals was found, due not only to the little emphasis on technical standards and on electrical installations provided by undergraduate courses, but also because only a small number of professionals get involved in continuing education, such as scientific events and postgraduate courses. Thus, we propose that the electrical installations design be developed within a clear flowchart, with precise definition of interfaces, elaboration of often neglected project steps and the appropriate use of standards and regulations. This study provides subsidies for the construction of such flowchart. Also, the need for periodic review of standards, along with technological progress, was found.

Ethics in structural design and mechanical design for live entertainment scenery

Vieira, David Vincent 21 October 2014 (has links)
Scenic construction requires a strong understanding of a range of principles related to construction including: materials strength properties, mechanical components, electrical motor systems, fluid power systems, and finishing techniques. A manager of scenic construction, or a Technical Director (TD), is required to take artistic designs and ideas and create magical elements on stage that are safe for performers, installers, operators, and audiences. In order to create these onstage spectacles, a great deal of planning, engineering, and careful fabrication must take place. There are several ways for a Technical Director to gain the knowledge required to effectively work at any level of entertainment production. This mixed-methods research study asks: what are the ethical standards that guide how a TD’s work is completed? The thesis begins with a review of the job of the Technical Director in Live Entertainment and data from a survey conducted of professionals in scenic technology. Results from the survey were analyzed to provide both quantitative data, in the form of statistics, and qualitative response data. Additional discussion addresses a sample of the resources for structural design support available currently to the field, as well as challenges that some professionals confront in their typical practice. The thesis concludes a review of literature around engineering ethics and liability in engineering practice and recommendations for the incorporation of new ethical standards in live entertainment scenic production. / text

Análise envoltória de dados para avaliação da eficiência da avicultura familiar em Alagoas / Data envelopment analysis for assessing the efficiency of family poultry at Alagoas

Carmo, Hérmani Magalhães Olivense do 31 October 2012 (has links)
This thesis is addressing DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS FOR ASSESSING THE EFFICIENCY OF FAMILY POULTRY AT ALAGOAS, whose main objective was to evaluate the technical efficiency of the farmers included in the Family Poultry Program (PAF) in the municipality of Santana do Ipanema - Alagoas. Poultry was selected due to the heterogeneity of the activities performed within the family farm, which is characterized by its complexity in relation to production and trading, making the sector historically dependent on the welfare policies of the government. Given this context, the main subjects addressed in this work are: PAF family farmers, who received technical-managerial guidance, are effectively differentiated? And how services such as technical assistance and rural extension (Ater) may have influenced this differentiation? The hypothesis is that producers who received technical support, together with managerial guidance, are more technically efficient than those assisted by the conventional Ater public. Results were obtained by means of statistic tests and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Statistic tests (normal test, t test and chi square test) were used in order to verify the average of the studied sample, while non parametric model DEA, through computer tool SIAD, provided the necessary results needed for the technical efficiency comparison of the producers studied. The results obtained confirmed the central hypothesis of this dissertation, pointing out that family farmers who have received technical-managerial guidance were actually more technically efficient than those who have not.

Outils actuariels adaptés au pilotage technique des risques en Afrique subsaharienne francophone : application aux régimes de retraite / Actuarial tools adapted to technical risk management in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa : application to Pension Plans

Gbongue, Kanga Florent 10 July 2017 (has links)
The technical management of risks in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa is often lacking in practice. In fact, in this zone, it is very easy to meet banks, insurance companies and pension institutions, doing their activities without integrating risk at the core of their management. This situation explains, a priori, the absence of reliable databases for quantitative studies. This thesis, which is complementary to work of KAMEGA A., focuses on the design of relevant actuarial tools adapted to technical risk management in sub-Saharan Africa, which can be used by both the governments of this zone and the insurance and banks industry. In view of the gradual development of the countries in the CIPRES zone, we believe that the economic scenario generator (ESG) is the common tool for the technical management of risks linked to the activities of the states and the banking and insurance industry. Note that the GSE is a tool able to forecast the economic and financial variables into a coherent system. This rich information will allow, for example, the governments of these countries to draw up their budgets mobilize resources on the local financial market and manage technically the public debt. In the context of the design of the GSE, the contribution of this thesis consists to specify initially mathematical models, adapted to the context of the CIPRES zone, covering a large number of economic and financial variables. In a second step, calibration methods are presented in the context of lack of data (expert opinion) or presence of data (statistical approaches). Particular attention is given to the extension of the GSE in order to take into account the future needs of professionals of the CIPRES zone. This thesis also gives importance to the application of the GSE in the development of the countries of the CIPRES zone through the contribution of the yield curve in the analysis and conduct of monetary policy, the forecasting of economic and financial quantities, Estimation of the probabilities of implicit defaults and the recovery rates of states and firms in the context of a local currency rating and the application of the Basel II / III framework in the course of 2018. Under the pension plans, these actuarial tools are useful in determining of the management parameters of the plan, including the "best estimate" of plan commitments, funding and asset allocation strategy
