"Glossário terminológico ilustrado de movimentos e golpes da capoeira: um estudo término-lingüístico" / Terminological and Illustraded Glossary of Capoeira Movements and Blows: a terminological and linguistic studyAnjos, Eliane Dantas dos 29 August 2003 (has links)
The present Dissertation aims at studying the processes of formation of the terms that name the movements of capoeira and the metaphorical relationship established between them. In order to establish this relationship, we organized the Glossário Terminológico Ilustrado de Movimentos e Golpes da Capoeira, a descriptive work, following the theoretical perspective of the terminology science. The terminology of capoeira is very complex, because it has not being clearly systematized. There are some attempts to do so by the Federação Internacional de Capoeira, whose terms, in spite of forming a nomenclature, are still being discussed. Provided that, we selected some books about capoeira, which constitute part of our corpus, and focused on the most common terms. The Glossary is presented in alphabetical order and contains illustrations as an extra means to help users understand the movements. This work, then, is addressed to capoeira players and to researches interested in the subject. Besides, it is also addressed to lexical studies professionals, mainly terminologists, since this work intends to be a contribution to the terminological and terminographic studies.

Localization and Terminometrics: Measuring the Impact of User Involvement on TerminologyBilgen, Baris January 2016 (has links)
Online collaborative translation has received increased attention from Translation Studies, mostly with a focus on explaining the various models it exhibits and the factors that shape these models. This study takes a new perspective on this phenomenon by focusing on its outcome through the lens of terminology. A terminometric analysis is carried out on the terminology used in the discussions of Francophone users on online forums of the Ubuntu-Québec open-source software community. The implantation of terms used in the forums and those stored in a selection of major term banks is examined with the objective of identifying potential correlations between term implantation and term formation patterns. The examination indicates that most terms formed through the use and modification of existing linguistic resources have higher implantation rates than terms formed through the creation of new lexical items. A new avenue of terminometric research is introduced by shifting the focus from the institution to the community, aligning with the global shift in content production and distribution. The study provides insight into online collaboration in the context of localization and points out correlations between term formation patterns and term implantation. These observations can mark a starting point for terminological decision-making that is informed by user behaviour and may thus improve the reception of localized content by adapting to users' terminological expectations.

Short Term Formation of the Inhibition Layer during Continuous Hot-Dip GalvanizingChen, Lihua January 2006 (has links)

Aluminum is usually added to the zinc bath to form an Fe-Al interfacial layer which
retards the formation of a series of Fe-Zn intermetallic compounds during the hot-dip
galvanizing process. However, experimentally exploring the inhibition layer formation
and obtaining useful experimental data to understand the mechanisms is quite challenging due to short times involved in this process. In this study, a galvanizing simulator was used to perform dipping times as short as O.ls and rapid spot cooling techniques have been applied to stop the reaction between the molten zinc coating and steel substrate as quickly as possible. In addition, the actual reaction time has been precisely calculated through the logged sample time and temperature during the hot-dipping process. The kinetics and formation mechanism of the inhibition layer was characterized using SEM, ICP and EBSD based on the total reaction time. For bath containing 0.2wt% dissolved AI, the results show that FeA13 nucleates and grows during the initial stage of the inhibition layer formation and then Fe2Als forms by a diffusive transformation. The evolution of the interfacial layer formed in a zinc bath with 0.13wt% dissolved AI, including Fe-Aland Fe-Zn intermetallic compounds, was a result of competing reactions. In the initial period, the Fe-Al reaction dominated due to high thermodynamic driving forces. After the zinc concentration reached a critical composition in the substrate grain boundaries, formation of Fe-Zn intermetallic compounds was kinetically favoured. Fe-Zn intermetallic compounds formed due to zinc diffusing to the substrate via short circuit paths and continuously grew by consuming Fe-Al interfacial layer after samples exited the zinc bath due to the limited Al supply. A mathematical model to describe the formation kinetics as a function of temperature for the 0.2wt% Al zinc bath was proposed. It indicated that the development of microstructure of the interfacial layer had significant influence on the effective diffusion coefficient and growth of this layer. However, the model underestimates the AI uptake by the interfacial layer, particularly at higher temperatures. This is thought to be due to the effect of the larger number of triple junctions in the inhibition layer leading to an underestimation of the effective diffusivity.
/ Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Edukologijos terminų daryba ir kirčiavimas / The formation and accentuation of Education termsKavaliauskaitė, Aušra 31 August 2012 (has links)
The bachelor thesis analyzes 1077 terms of education which were selected from Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Education (Enciklopedinis edukologijos žodynas) by L. Jovaiša (2007). Their structure, origin, formation and accentuation have not been analyzed in detail yet. In regard to the structure, terms of education are divided into one-word and compound (consisting of two, three and four words) terms. Their accentuation classes have been determined. Most terms of education are one-word terms – 655 (60,8%), 422 (39,2%) compound terms have been found. More than a half of one-word terms of education are Lithuanian words – 378 (57,7%). 592 (90,4%) one-word terms, respectively 363 and 229 ones, are of the first and second accentuation classes. There have been found 35 terms of the third accentuation class and 26 ones – of the fourth accentuation class. Lithuanian one-word terms of education belonging to the first accentuation class often have the suffix -imas (60) which expresses the names of actions. Lithuanian terms of education belonging to the second accentuation class generally have the suffixes -umas (56) (expresses the names of characteristics) and -imas (47) (expresses various actions). International one-word terms of education belonging to the first accentuation class have the ending -ija (74), while the terms of the second accentuation class have the ending -izmas (22). A vast majority of compound terms of education are two-word terms – 355 (84,1%). Terms with... [to full text]

Strategies in the modernisation of VendaMadiba, Mbulungeni Ronald 06 1900 (has links)
This thesis addresses the problem of the lack of a systematic approach to the
modernisation of the indigenous languages of South Africa, with particular
reference to Venda. Thus, a systematic approach is proposed in this study for the
development of modem terminology in Venda. This approach is based on the
canonical model for language planning. In this model, terminology development
should follow the following four steps: (1) analysis of the terminological needs of
the situation, (2) preparation of a plan and strategies for research, (3)
implementation of terminology in practice by means of suitable policies, and
lastly, (4) evaluation and constant updating of terminology.
Within the canonical model for language planning, different models or
frameworks are proposed. First is the theoretical model, which follows the
pragmatic approach rather than a purist approach and takes into consideration
other extralinguistic factors such as the nature of the special subject field, the
needs of the target users and the socio-cultural context. The pragmatic approach
is divided into two phases, namely the borrowing phase and the indigenisation
phase. In the borrowing phase the borrowed terms are incorporated into the
language with immediate effect and these terms may be replaced by indigenous
terms in the indigenisation phase where less specialised communication is used.
In the indigenisation phase, different language internal term formation strategies
were identified, namely semantic shift, derivation, compounding, paraphrasing,
initialisms, acronyms, clipping and new word manufacture. It was established that
the use of these term formation strategies in Venda requires linguistic expertise, technical expertise and cultural expertise. Accordingly, a sociolinguistic approach
is recommended rather than a purely linguistic approach.
Lastly, a model of practical terminology work and a model for cooperation and
coordination are proposed for terminology work in this language. With regard to
the former, various steps that should be followed in terminology work are
outlined. In the latter model various language agencies, such as government
departments, parastatals and non-governmental organisations that may be
involved in the modernisation of this language are identified. A framework in
which these agencies could cooperate and coordinate their terminology work is
proposed. / Linguistics / D.Litt. et Phil. (Linguistics)
