The idea of using modern media - like tablet computers - in classes is becoming more and more popular in Swedish schools. This study investigates how students with different habits of media usage perform regarding text understanding, vocabulary understanding and motivation to read a text in a foreign language (English and German) on different media. This was done by splitting the students into two groups: one group reading the given text on a tablet-computer, and one group reading the same text in a printed book. The tablet group was given an electronic dictionary, whereas the book group used a printed dictionary. The results on the one hand showed that the textunderstanding and motivation did not differ between the groups. The focus was on the content of the text, not on the media used. On the other hand, the tablet group used the electronic dictionary more frequently than the book group used the printed version. A comparison to a similar study performed by Wells (2012) was also done. This essay came to the conclusion that teachers should consider whether to make use of the easy and quick use of an electronic dictionary, and thereby neglect other skills like comprehension by context, or using the slower way of reflection and thereby improving these skills.

Seit langem ist bekannt, dass der Erfolg im Studium in erheblichem Maße von der Ausdrucksfähigkeit der Studenten mitbestimmt wird. Das mag man als Problem der Validität und also als Messproblem bei Prüfungen abtun. Insoweit jedoch die Auffassung der Lernaufgaben und die Aufnahme der Informationen vom Sprachverständnis abhängen, kommt dieses Validitätsproblem wieder zum Verschwinden, denn der Inhalt eines ganz oder in Teilen unverstandenen Texts kann auch nicht oder nicht richtig gelernt werden. Heinrich Schanz kommen große Verdienste in der Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik und der Philosophischen Fakultät der Technischen Universität Chemnitz überhaupt in der Phase ihrer Wiedergründung in den neunziger Jahren zu. Obwohl linguistischer Laie, hat sich dieser Fragestellung zugewandt. Dafür hat er auch Probanden des Studiengangs Master in Vocationomics der TU einbezogen, sodass ihm erneut Dank abzustatten ist, dieses kleine Stück praktischer Sprachforschung im Rahmen der Reihe der Berichtshefte einem größeren Publikum bekannt zu machen. The diploma thesis deals with the book genre Erstlesebuch (book for beginner readers) as educational material in the context of foreign language education at the levels of Basic Users (A0/1-A2). In the context of first language teaching, this specific genre belongs to the field of literature, the didactic of literature, and the didactic of reading. The goal of this diploma thesis is to present different possibilities of didactic activities with Erstlesebuch in the context of second language teaching and to formulate criteria for choosing an appropriate text. The theoretical part describes the context of foreign language education and the role of literature in this context, with consideration for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The theoretical part also presents the specifics of the book genre Erstlesebuch itself. The empirical part of this thesis is based on several investigations: firstly on a complex analysis (readability and text structure) of six Erstlesebuch and secondly on empirical research in reading with schoolchildren at higher grades of an elementary school (children at the age of 13-15).
