Estimation of average and incremental net economic values of Oregon ocean sport-caught salmon : an aggregated travel cost approach

Raja Abdullah, Nik Mustapha bin 30 November 1988 (has links)
The main objective of this study was to estimate the demand for and value of Oregon ocean sport-caught salmon fishery. The primary technique employed to estimate the recreational demand was an aggregated zone average travel cost method (TCM). The willingness of an angler to pay was deduced from the estimated demand for recreational fishing. The concept of consumers' surplus was used in conjunction with the travel-cost based demand functions to estimate the net economic value of Oregon ocean sport-caught salmon. The net economic value computed for the pooled data from all ten ports was found to be about $6.4 million. This value was calculated based on the total travel cost per mile of one-way distance equal to 72 cents. The regional travel cost method (RTCM) was developed to measure the effects of substitutes and quality variables in the travel cost model. A system of a linear demand equations for the six larger ports was estimated by the seemingly unrelated regression equation (SURE) method. The substitute distances as proxies for substitute prices were found to be insignificant for this model. Likewise, attempts to include substitute distances using indexes constructed by the Principal Component analysis failed to give significant results, with the exception of Garibaldi and Brookings. The total net economic value for the regional travel cost model estimated by SURE was $9.1 million. The incremental value per coho equivalent was also assessed by using the relationship between catch and effort per month by port. The coho equivalent was constructed on the basis of average weights of the commercial salmon catch, which was roughly two coho to one chinook salmon. The weighted average incremental value per coho and chinook was found to be $23.46 and $43.17, respectively. These values were about 50 percent of their respective average values. A total of 66 out of 234 distance zones created had zero values. Tobit analysis was employed to efficiently estimate the recreational demand from this kind of data. From the estimated demand function, a net economic value of about $12.7 million was obtained. This value was higher than those estimated by the SURE method and the OLS in the simple model. It should be noted that all the above value estimates were based upon demand models that were not consistent with the theory of consumer demand. However, a theoretically consistent system of demand equations was estimated and presented in Appendix D. This model fitted the data better than the other models and should give more accurate estimates of consumer surplus. / Graduation date: 1989

A time to change : an 18-month investigation into the impact of political changes and macro-economic pressures on the Hong Kong tourism and hotel industry (1997-1998)

Hsu, William Shiu-Foo, University of Western Sydney, College of Law and Business January 2004 (has links)
This dissertation examines how various factors have placed the Hong Kong tourism and hotel industries under pressure. Many contributory factors were the macro-level financial storm known as 'the Asian Economic Crisis', which directly affected regional and international travellers coming to Hong Kong. Other factors with local implications were embedded during the British colonial rule and have long been a part of the Hong Kong economy such as the stock and real-estate markets. When this 'bubble economy' was pierced and deflated, the impact could be felt in all business sectors. The new century is an opportune time for changes. For example, sustainable resolutions should be collaborations involving the SAR Government and the tourism and hotel industry to ensure the support of the practitioners. A renewed commitment to quality service-centred career training through application oriented hospitality education programs will help provide the catalyst needed to help the Hong Kong tourism and hotel industry rebound. / Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Problematika účtování a využívání účetnictví ve službách kongresové turistiky. / Accounting of congress trade services

BASHCHEVAN, Yuliya January 2011 (has links)
Congress tourism represents one of the most dynamically evolving areas of the travel industry. Over the course of several years the Czech Republic has become a very important congress destination not only in Europe but on a wordwide basis. Some of the positive aspects of the Czech Republic as a congress destination are its attractiveness as a tourist destination, its well-developed infrastructure, its perfect position in Europe (the heartbeat of Europe) and the security of the Central European region. All this means that the Czech Rebublic has all the presumptions to become a major congress destination. The target of this work is to refer to the particular business of the tourist trade and to analyse the accounting of a given corporation. The theoretical part of the work is given to the specific topics of the accounnting. It is clear that accounting is a very wide field so for this work was chosen the most interesting aspects of the subject. The practical part is focused on accounting and taxes methods that Congress Center XY uses to provide the veritable information about its economic situation. These methods were demonstrated on the basis of practical cases that turned up through the year 2009.

O turismo pelas lentes do idoso asilado: um estudo no Asilo Padre Cacique/Porto Alegre-RS

Babinski, Luciana Raquel 04 July 2007 (has links)
Submitted by Marcelo Teixeira (mvteixeira@ucs.br) on 2014-05-15T17:06:31Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Luciana Babinski.pdf: 19505501 bytes, checksum: 375645073bd7098379c0542e71dcb51c (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-05-15T17:06:31Z (GMT). The tourism, as an alternative of leisure, has shown interest, even still small, in direct their studies to the elderly assistance presenting, usually, as a focus of market segmentation. When focusing the look in the subjects of the tourism , we notice a lack of studies that attempt to these touristic possibilities for old age pensioners, and, usually forgotten by the society. Facing that, this investigation, of qualitative cut, used the told life story of 14 elderly from the old age home Asilo Padre Cacique, in Porto Alegre, to verify if the insertion of leisure and tourism activities in this home can contribute for a better life quality and wellness of their residents, besides of identifying the meaning of tourism for this elderly. The study is presented by a narrative that mentions the story of Miss Odete, a character inspired in the residents life style stories and created as a background to show the discussions about the aging process, the home structure, questions connected to leisure and tourism showing results that evidence the necessity of actions that focus in the human element as the beginning of leisure and tourism practices.

Bonotto, Camile 18 May 2015 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2015-09-02T16:59:28Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Camile Bonotto.pdf: 1567266 bytes, checksum: 3b929355fa30051bce48c2361b071dec (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2015-09-02T16:59:28Z (GMT).

Müller, Edson Luís 02 July 2015 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2015-11-09T16:44:21Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Edson Luis Muller.pdf: 1983775 bytes, checksum: 89107757cb9dc4a7e9c76047a51859db (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2015-11-09T16:44:21Z (GMT).

Alano, Juliana 30 March 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2016-07-25T13:25:21Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Juliana Alano.pdf: 1682335 bytes, checksum: a730a98cd398deb6e94f5e51f60450d8 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2016-07-25T13:25:21Z (GMT). Innovation in services not only contributes to the high performance and the company's profitability, but for economic development as a whole. Thus, justified the use of technology in the constant search for innovation, is to launch a new product or service, change or improve their processes, marketing or management, considering it as a key element for technological innovation happen. From the importance of the issues related to the subject, the research aimed to verify the technological innovations implemented in the services and innovations in processes, radical and incremental, in Snowland snow park, located in Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul, and if these technological innovations attract tourists to the city. The methodology used was a case study, exploratory and descriptive, divided into two stages of research, focused on data collection. In the first stage it was used for in-depth interviews conducted with company experts. Later interviews passed through content analysis. In the second research stage was used the survey research method, applying a structured questionnaire, which was validated by experts and tested, and later applied to a sample of 385 visitors. At this stage, the data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and multivariate linear regression. As a result in qualitative research, it was found that technological innovations in services are mainly related to the snow production equipment and skidoo the battery, and these innovations can be considered radical. With regard to innovations in processes, we have to purchase tickets online, the use of electronic bracelets, which record the consummation, and efficient checklist in preparation and guidance for practical activities, they were considered incremental innovations. In quantitative research found that the first choice of tourists is related to visiting natural attractions (48.8%), while in second place is the snow park (23.4%). In addition, the end of the work, the average found for the innovations of the park was 6.51 and the services provided were satisfactory, was 6.03. Therefore, the study was able to search on technological innovation in the service sector, because usually most studies are focused on the industry sector. Furthermore, considering that the issue is being discussed in the gym and that needs to be widespread in the business world, it is pertinent to the development of scientific research in this area of knowledge, encouraging the practice of technological innovation in the tourism sector.

Paula, Tauana Macedo de 24 May 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2016-08-23T18:54:13Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Tauana Macedo de Paula.pdf: 1440527 bytes, checksum: 12fa2a77a1b7d3e1116fa28859f41c25 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2016-08-23T18:54:13Z (GMT). Analyzing the Ministry of Culture’s theories, it was possible to identify some related variables at Creative Economy: social, economic, environmental, cultural and innovation. From these, cultural was applied in this research, specifically in the gastronomic souvenir production. In Tourism, one of the products that may be prepared in accordance with Creative Economy standard is the gastronomic souvenir. That touristic element, through its know-how, transmits the local culture to tourists, making as that it recalls of the experienced moments on the trip and also discloses the touristic destination, when it is used for gifting. Thus, this dissertation aims to identify how it takes place the cultural variable description, according to the Brazilian Creative Economy’s guiding principles in the production of gastronomic souvenir present on the “Smoke Mary” (Bento Gonçalves – RS) train tour. Therefore, the methodology of this research makes oneself up as exploratory as much as their objectives; in the technical procedures predominates the case study model; on the research question approach it regards oneself as a qualitative study; the data collection was carried out through of a semi-structured interview; a last, the data were analyzed using the triangulation method. After that, it was verified that the culture description in the gastronomic souvenir production happens in various stages of the preparation of that delicacy. It observes itself presence in use of regional ingredients; in undertaking participation in local cultural events; in forefathers’ know-how ransom; in preference for region suppliers; in local disclosure through the products package and labels, among other situations. Thus, it follows that the local culture use in gastronomic souvenir preparation, it propitiates the region positive impacts, in products with higher added symbolic value. Those impacts may be noted in cultural sphere through the protection, valorization and culture local promotion; in social with the income and employment generation; in economical with the exchange value constitution for the region and in environmental with the little pollution generation, for example.
