The most part of industrialized bentonite clay produced in Brazil comes from Boa Vista - PB. However, the bentonite deposit is in the exhaustion phase because it has been mined over 50 years, which results in a low quality product. Recently, three new deposits have been discovered. These deposits are located in the following cities: Cubati, Pedra Lavrada, Sossego and Olivedos, in the state of Paraíba. Thus it needs a systematic study to develop all its industrial potential. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the chemical and mineralogical composition, as well as particle size distribution and average diameter. From these deposits of smectite clays by statistical analysis. The physical, chemical and mineralogical characterization was performed using. Particle size by laser diffraction (GL), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and chemical composition by X-ray fluorescence (EDX) techniques. Then analyzes were carried out apruying statistics analysis of variance and Tukey test using the software racked camed MINITAB 17.0. The results showed that the chemical composition of bentonite clay of the new deposits which similar and different values in relation to the city of Boa Vista. When the data was analysed the results showed lower values compared with the imported clays. The results of the analysis of variance and Tukey test showed that the silica, aluminum, magnesium and calcium are significantly different at 95% level. Finally, the local has influence on the quality of the mineralogical clays.

Freeway Exit Ramp Traffic Flow Research Based on Computer Simulation

Wang, Xu 07 December 2007 (has links)
Interstate highways are one of the most important components of the transportation infrastructure in America. Freeway ramps play an important role in the whole interstate transportation system. This paper researches the traffic flow characteristics of four typical exit ramps in USA, which are tapered one-lane exit, tapered two-lane exit, parallel one-lane exit and parallel two-lane exit. Computer simulation software, such as CORSIM and HCS are applied as the main tools in this research. ANOVA and Tukey are used for statistical purpose. It compares the maximum capacity, average running speed and the total lane change number of those four exit ramps. It is found that no matter in terms of traffic discharging rate or total lane charging number; the tapered two-lane exit has the best operational performance. Tapered one-lane exit ramp has the least capacity. Parallel one-lane exit and parallel two-lane exit have very limited traffic operational difference in terms of capacity and running speed. It is recommended that parallel two-lane exit ramp should not be designed along the freeway if the right of way along arterial road is enough. It is observed from the simulation data that the grade of freeway, truck percentage, restricted to the truck use of certain lane(s) and the location of exit sign have significant impact on the running speed and total lane change number. An uphill can decrease the running speed dramatically while more truck brings more lane change, causing safety concerns. It is found that when trucks are restricted to the right two most lane, there will be less lane change number comparing with trucks are not restricted. Location of exit sign operates well at the distance between 4000 ft to 5000 ft. does have a significant impact on the operational speed and total lane change number before, within or after functional area of an exit, based on the data analysis of simulation runs.

A DERIVATION OF THE PERCENTILE BASED TUKEY DISTRIBUTIONS AND A COMPARISON OF MONOTONIC VERSUS NONMONOTONIC AND RANK TRANSFORMATIONS

Ptukhin, Yevgeniy 01 August 2018 (has links)
The Method of Moments (MOM) has been extensively used in statistics for obtaining conventional moment-based estimators of various parameters. However, the disadvantage of this method is that the estimates “can be substantially biased, have high variance, or can be influenced by outliers” (Headrick & Pant, 2012). The Method of Percentiles (MOP) provides a useful alternative to the MOM when the distributions are non-normal, specifically being more computationally efficient in terms of estimating population parameters. Examples include the generalized lambda distribution (Karian & Dudewicz, 1999), third order power method (Koran, Headrick & Kuo, 2015) and fifth order power method (Kuo & Headrick, 2017). Further, the HH, HR and HQ distributions, as extensions of the Tukey g-h (GH) family, are of interest for investigation using the MOP in this dissertation. More specifically, closed form solutions are obtained for left-right tail-weight ratio (a skew function) and tail-weight factor (a kurtosis function). A Monte Carlo simulation study which includes the comparison of monotonic and nonmonotonic transformation scenarios is also performed. The effect on Type 1 error and power rates under severely nonmonotonic scenarios are of special interest in the study. Dissimilarities of not strictly monotonic scenarios are discussed. The empirical confirmation that Rank Transform (RT) is appropriate for 2x2 designs is obtained.

On Nonparametric Bayesian Inference for Tukey Depth

Han, Xuejun January 2017 (has links)
The Dirichlet process is perhaps the most popular prior used in the nonparametric Bayesian inference. This prior which is placed on the space of probability distributions has conjugacy property and asymptotic consistency. In this thesis, our concentration is on applying this nonparametric Bayesian inference on the Tukey depth and Tukey median. Due to the complexity of the distribution of Tukey median, we use this nonparametric Bayesian inference, namely the Lo’s bootstrap, to approximate the distribution of the Tukey median. We also compare our results with the Efron’s bootstrap and Rubin’s bootstrap. Furthermore, the existing asymptotic theory for the Tukey median is reviewed. Based on these existing results, we conjecture that the bootstrap sample Tukey median converges to the same asymp- totic distribution and our simulation supports the conjecture that the asymptotic consistency holds.

Aplicaciones estadísticas de las proyecciones aleatorias

Nieto Reyes, Alicia 26 February 2010 (has links)
A random projection consists in projecting a given data set, or in computing the marginal of a distribution, on a randomly chosen lower dimensional subspace. In our case, it is of dimension one.In this thesis, we present two applications of the random projections. The first one is a new definition of depth that is computationally effective, approximates the well-known Tukey depth and works as much in multidimensional spaces as in functional. The second is a test of Gaussianity for strictly stationary processes, which rejects non-Gaussian processes with Gaussian one-dimensional marginal.

Implementation of LTE Baseband Algorithms for a Highly Parallel DSP Platform

Keller, Markus January 2016 (has links)
The division of computer engineering at Linköping’s university is currentlydeveloping an innovative parallel DSP processor architecture called ePUMA. Onepossible future purpose of the ePUMA that has been thought of is to implement itin base stations for mobile communication. In order to investigate the performanceand potential of the ePUMA as a processing unit in base stations, a model of theLTE physical layer uplink receiving chain has been simulated in Matlab and thenpartially mapped onto the ePUMA processor. The project work included research and understanding of the LTE standard andsimulating the uplink processing chain in Matlab for a transmission bandwidth of5 MHz. Major tasks of the DSP implementation included the development of a300-point FFT algorithm and a channel equalization algorithm for the SIMD unitsof the ePUMA platform. This thesis provides the reader with an introduction tothe LTE standard as well as an introduction to the ePUMA processor. Furthermore,it can serve as a guidance to develop mixed point radix FFTs in general orthe 300 point FFT in specific and can help with a basic understanding of channelequalization. The work of the thesis included the whole developing chain from understandingthe algorithms, simplifying and mapping them onto a DSP platform, and testing and verification of the results.

An Empirical Investigation of Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference Test with Variance Heterogeneity and Equal Sample Sizes, Utilizing Box's Coefficient of Variance Variation

Strozeski, Michael W. 05 1900 (has links)
This study sought to determine boundary conditions for robustness of the Tukey HSD statistic when the assumptions of homogeneity of variance were violated. Box's coefficient of variance variation, C^2 , was utilized to index the degree of variance heterogeneity. A Monte Carlo computer simulation technique was employed to generate data under controlled violation of the homogeneity of variance assumption. For each sample size and number of treatment groups condition, an analysis of variance F-test was computed, and Tukey's multiple comparison technique was calculated. When the two additional sample size cases were added to investigate the large sample sizes, the Tukey test was found to be conservative when C^2 was set at zero. The actual significance level fell below the lower limit of the 95 per cent confidence interval around the 0.05 nominal significance level.
