UML modeling for VHDL designs / Unified Modeling Language modeling for Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language designsSprunger, Steven J. January 2008 (has links)
Unified Modeling Language (UML) allows software engineers to use a standard way of expressing a design approach at a high level. The benefits of system modeling are well accepted in the software development community. Modeling of Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL) designs, for synthesizing into hardware, is a common practice also. The research herein looks at system modeling of a design using UML, in which there are both software and hardware components. The idea is to explore modeling of the system with the ability to abstract whether the implementation of a particular function is realized in software or hardware. The designer can then model/evaluate a given system design approach and later allocate functions to software and hardware, as appropriate to meet constraints such as performance, cost, schedule. Since using UML for software is a standard approach, this research investigates the UML to hardware path via VHDL. / Department of Computer Science

UML būsenų modelio generavimas veiklos žinių bazės pagrindu / Generation uml state model based on enterprise metamodelBikauskas, Mantas 23 June 2014 (has links)
Šiuo metu IS inžinerijoje projektiniai modeliai yra kuriami empiriškai, formaliai jų nepatikrinus pagal realią dalykinę sritį. Šiuo darbu siekiama intelektualizuoti IS inžinerijos projektavimo etapą generuojant UML state modelį iš dalykinės srities žinių saugyklos vadinamos veiklos modeliu. Darbo esmė – sugeneruoti veiklos modeliu grindžiamo UML state modelį, atliekant veiklos modelio analizę ir išskiriant veiklos modelio parametrus atitinkančius UML state modelio elementus, papildyti veiklos metamodelio žinių bazę trūkstamais elementais. Šiame darbe atliekamas UML (angl. unified modelling language) state metamodelio generavimas. Sugeneruoto state metamodelio pagalba bus intelekualizuojamas projektavimo etapas padedantis identifikuoti problemas kylančias IS kūrimo metu bei ir optimizuoti patį kūrimo procesą. Reikalinga akcentuoti tai, kad UML state modelio generavimas bus vykdomas, remiantis veiklos modeliu – realių įmonėje vykstančių procesų saugykla. Darbo uždaviniai: Atlikti veiklos modelio sudėties analizę UML state modelio aspektu. Sukurti veiklos modeliu grindžiamą UML state modelio generavimo būdą (algoritmą). Pasiūlyti sukurto metodo programinės realizacijos prototipą. Atlikus tyrimą, nustatyta kad būsenų modelio generavimas intelektualizuoja IS inžinerijos projektavimo etapą tuo, kad UML būsenų modelis sukuriamas interaktyviai, t.y. vykdant generavimo iš veiklos modelio (kuriame saugomos dalykinės srities žinios yra patikrintos valdymo požiūriu) algoritmą dalyvaujant... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Recently project models of IS engineering are created empirically, officially not exanimate according to real subject field. Target of this work is to intellectualize IS engineering designing stage by generating UML state model from subject field knowledge base namely called enterprise model. The point of this work is to generate UML state model based on enterprise model, performing analysis of enterprise model and excluding enterprise model parameters matching UML state model elements and adding missing elements to enterprise metamodel knowledge base. In this work UML state metamodel generation is performed. Generated state metamodel will help to intellectualize designing stage. It is important that UML state model generation will be performed according to enterprise model – database of real processes in the organization. Tasks of this work: perform analysis of enterprise model composition UML state model aspect, to create UML state model generation based on enterprise model, suggest software solution for created method. In this research it was discovered that state model generation intellectualize IS engineering designing stage. After analyzing enterprise metamodel and state metamodel was found that we need to add flow object in enterprise metamodel. Created UML state generation algorithm was tested with real data and was suggested realization prototype.

Improving the scalability of tools incorporating sequence diagram visualizations of large execution tracesMyers, Del 10 August 2011 (has links)
Sequence diagrams are a popular way to visualize dynamic software execution traces. However, they tend to be extremely large, causing significant scalability problems. Not only is it difficult from a technical perspective to build interactive sequence diagram tools that are able to display large traces, it is also difficult for people to understand them. While cognitive support theory exists to help cope with the later problem, no work to date has described how to implement the cognitive support theory in sequence diagram tools. In this thesis, we tackle both the technical and cognitive support problems. First, we use previous research about cognitive support feature requirements to design and engineer an interactive, widget-based sequence diagram visualization. After implementing the visualization, we use benchmarks to test its scalability and ensure that it is efficient enough to be used in realistic applications. Then, we present two novel approaches for reducing the cognitive overhead required to understand large sequence diagrams. The first approach is to compact sequence diagrams using loops found in source code. We present an algorithm that is able to compact diagrams by up to 80%. The second approach is called the trace-focused user interface which uses software reconnaissance to create a degree-of-interest model to help users focus on particular software features and navigate to portions of the sequence diagram that are related to those features. We present a small user study that indicates the viability of the trace-focused user interface. Finally, we present the results of a small survey that indicates that users of the software find the loop compaction and the trace-focused user interface both useful. / Graduate

A Catalog of Reusable Design Decisions for Developing UML- and MOF-based Domain-Specific Modeling LanguagesHoisl, Bernhard, Sobernig, Stefan, Schefer-Wenzl, Sigrid, Strembeck, Mark, Baumgrass, Anne 06 1900 (has links) (PDF)
In the process of model-driven development (MDD) of software artifacts, domain-specific modeling languages (DSMLs) are an integral part. They act as the communication vehicle for aligning the requirements of the domain expert with the needs of the software engineer. With the rise of the UML as de facto standard for modeling software systems, MOF/UML-based DSMLs are now widely used for MDD. This paper documents design decisions from ten DSML projects which are based on the MOF/UML and which we conducted over the last years. We present our experiences in the form of reusable decision templates for all decision points detected in each phase of the DSML development process. Furthermore, we report also on identified decision dependencies which may occur within a single decision or between two decisions.
