Potential Futures of Social Media : A Speculative Design Approach to Instagram

Hasselquist, Viggo January 2023 (has links)
Instagram has around two billion registered users at the time of writing. This puts a lot of responsibility on interaction designers as they implement changes to the user experience. This thesis proposes a speculative approach to evaluate how potential futures might alter interactive features on Instagram and in turn, how that might nurture user habits. The thesis presents a framework and model to construct plausible structures of social media platforms and is in this project used to construct four scenarios through which speculative design work is done. The model could also guide future iterations and speculations.

Uživatelské zvyky majitelů smartphonů z pohledu konzumace mediálních obsahů / User habits of smartphone owners in terms of consumption of media content

Kimla, Lukáš January 2017 (has links)
The thesis "User habits of smartphone owners in terms of consumption of media content" aims to expertly uncover a deeper description of user habits of today's smartphone users, and focus primarily on aspects of the consumption of media content on these devices, such as applications, games, web browsing, news, audiovisual content and social networks. The purpose is to give a complete picture of today's smartphone users as consumers of new technological media and to reveal the spectrum of influence that these smartphones have on their users, whether in positive or negative connotations. Using the methods of qualitative research interviews were conducted with representatives of the younger users of smartphones, specifically from Generation Y. The result of the investigation was to identify and describe on what media content representatives of this generation consume on their smartphones and how they reflect their own smartphone usage. It has been shown that most young people interact with their surroundings through social networks on smartphones and also that some of them would be hardly able to live without them, although they were aware of strong smartphones impact on themselves and their broader cultural environment.

Optimisation de la consommation d'énergie des systèmes mobiles par l'analyse des besoins de l'utilisateur / Energy consumption optimization in mobile systems by user needs analysis

Chaib Draa, Ismat Yahia 26 June 2018 (has links)
Optimizing energy consumption in modern mobile handled devices plays a crucial role as lowering the power consumption impacts battery life and systemreliability. Recent mobile platforms have an increasing number of sensors and processing components. Added to the popularity of power-hungry applications, battery life in mobile devices is an important issue. However, the utilization pattern of large amount of data from the various sensors can be beneficial to detect the changing device context, the user needs and the running application requirements in terms of hardware resources. When these information are used properly, an efficient control of power knobs can be implemented to reduce the energy consumption. This thesis has been achieved in collaboration with Intel Portland.

Algorithms in feed-based SNS and their influence on digital platform User Habits : A quantitative study of the link between algorithms in feed-based SNS and user habits amongst high-school and university students in Sweden

Brindmark, Viktor, Wickström, Gustav January 2023 (has links)
This research intended to investigate how the arising SNS component of algorithms acts as a mediator for affecting SNS user habits amongst high school and university students in Sweden. The testing of this specific correlation was realized by first investigating previous research regarding algorithms, various components of user habits, and the complementary component of algorithm awareness separately. By extracting interesting and valuable findings from the previous studies, a questionnaire was constructed, implementing the previous knowledge into the response alternatives to provide components useful for building testing variables. The questionnaire collected 419 respondents, whereas 341 were considered valid after implementing a sampling phase based on the specified demographics. Testing variables were conceptualized to be able to provide the ability of testing in SPSS to show statistical significance by using chi-square testing. This was conducted to test 4 hypotheses, grounded on what was to be answered by the 2 research questions. The testing of the variables was not able to provide any statistical significance and had in general low testing validity. Thus, none of the hypotheses could be accepted, which furtherly did not provide scientifically valid answers to any of the research questions. Several potential factors could be considered to have impaired the testing, including the complexity of the variable construction, and an imbalance between the volume of respondents fitting within the constructed variables to mention a few majorly discussed arguments. However, the data collection provided valuable insights, answer data frequencies, and knowledge that have the potential to facilitate future studies, both regarding the perspective of informatics and also a range of areas of which perspective was not used for this research. Hence, it also enables and suggests future studies to evaluate the collected data, reconstruct variables, or investigating interesting responses of questions left redundant.

Don't judge a book by its cover – Using E-books in higher education

Juneby, Anna January 2012 (has links)
This thesis is about the use of E-books in higher education, specifically at Malmö University. The purpose of this study is to investigate attitudes students have towards the use of E-books for scholarly purposes in higher education versus their printed counterparts. This study looks at student preferences in the use of E-books compared to printed books, along with the effects these media have on students reading habits. By discovering in which situations E-books or printed books are most beneficial, students can make informed decisions about which medium will benefit them the most. An online survey and recorded interviews were used as methods for collecting data, whichwas then compared to previously published studies related to this subject. Students were found to prefer the printed book for studying purposes, and it still remains as the main source for reading and analyzing longer passages of text. E-books, on the other hand, were found to be most advantageous when preparing research reports. This means that both media still have their place inhigher education, which is likely to continue in the foreseeable future.
