Möbelvax : en jämförande studie av olika vaxrecept

Denna rapport är en jämförande studie om hur möbelvaxer påverkas av inre och yttre faktorer, hur resultatet påverkas av till exempel vilket vax, lösningsmedel eller harts som används i en vaxblandning. Samt hur det i sin tur påverkar hur pass tålig vaxblandningen är för yttre påverkan i form av vatten, alkohol och värme. På marknaden finns idag en uppsjö av möbelvaxer, vissa med mer eller mindre ofullständiga innehållsdeklarationer, vilket har gjort mig frustrerad ett flertal gånger då man inom konservatorsyrket gärna vill kunna härleda materialen man arbetar med. Därför har jag här tagit reda på om det går att göra enkla, användbara och miljövänligare vaxer själv. Jag har i denna rapport valt att insamla olika vaxrecept från vitt skilda källor för att sedan tillverka dem och testa dem för ovan nämnda påfrestningar och kartlägga vilket recept som lämpar sig till olika ändamål. Resultaten i denna rapport har legat till grund för min sammanställning i boken Vax – en receptbok för möbler och kulturvård (2013).

Application of VAX/VMS graphics for solving preliminary ship design problems

Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / The VAX/VMS UIS graphics library routines were used in the creation of a menu driven, interactive program which solves basic preliminary ship design problems. The program uses a menu with active mouse and keyboard to select options, enter data, and control program execution. At present, the program solves transverse and longitudinal static stability problems and predicts the effects of shifting weight in three planes. It also calculates the hydrodynamic derivatives for maneuvering performance and predicts the turning circle characteristics of the ship. Provisions for a hardcopy, detailed report are also included. Space has been allocated to include future program modules or user supplied programs.

MIGRATION FROM VAX TO MODERN ALPHA COMPUTERS

The Satellite Control Center (SCC) of Deutsche Telekom is located near Usingen, about 50 km northwest of Frankfurt/Main. The system has been under operation since the launch of the first flight model DFS in June 1989. The entire computer system was based on Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) VAX type computers. The maintenance costs of these old Complex Instruction Sets Computers (CISC) were increased significantly during the last years. Due to the high operational costs Deutsche Telekom decided to exchange the operational computer system. Present-day information technology world uses more and more powerful Reduced Instruction Set Computers (RISC). These new designs allow operational costs to be reduced appreciably. The VAX type computers will be replaced by DEC Alpha AXP Computers. This paper describes the transition process from CISC to RISC computers in an operational realtime environment.

<p>I dagens samhälle finns det en stor variation på golv och golvmaterial. Till dessa finns det en stor variation av de produkter och metoder som används för att hålla dessa golv funktionsdugliga. Samtliga golv och produkter ger upphov till miljöpåverkan av olika storlek och sort.</p><p>Denna studie är skriven på uppdrag av avdelningen för industriell miljöteknik, Institutionen för ekonomisk och industriell utveckling (IEI) Linköpings Universitet, som vill veta vilken miljöpåverkan Twister™-metoden har. Detta sker genom en livscykelanalys.</p><p>En livscykelanalys ställer en produkt eller tjänst miljöpåverkan utifrån helhetsperspektiv innefattande materialframställning, tillverkning, användning och resthantering. Som hjälp i denna studie har programvaran SimaPro 7.0 använts vari metoden Eco-indikator 99 valts.</p><p>I studien ställs Twister™-metoden mot andra golvvårdsmetoder innefattande polish och vax. I analysen sker även en nedbrytning av Twister™-metoden likväl en nedbrytning av den Twister™-rondell som HTC Sweden AB tillverkar.</p><p>Resultatet visar att den del av Twister™-metoden som har störst miljöpåverkan är den skurmaskin som används och den energianvändning som Twister™-metoden kräver. Resultatet visar även att Twister™-metoden har signifikant lägre miljöpåverkan än de andra golvvårdsmetoderna polish och vax. De delar av Twister™-rondellen som har störst miljöpåverkan är de industridiamanter och den rondell, som Twister™-rondellen består av.</p>

Data base optimisation for an I.C. design layout package on the VAX.

The performance of an interactive graphics/computer aided design system, such as the IC layout and rule checking package implemented as part of the schematic drawing application on the Gerber Systems Technology IDS-80, is very closely related to the performance of the system's data base. This is due to the fact that most editing functions on an interactive graphics/CAD system are data base intensive functions and the data base and its management routines form one of the major building blocks of a CAD system. It can therefore be said that the performance of a CAD system is directly dependent on the data base access time and the efficiency of the managing routines. The primary objective of this project was to enhance the performance of the IC layout and rule checking package. This was done by improving the performance of the data base of the system. This was achieved by following two mutually supportive paths. The first was the transportation of the software to a new host machine which had a 32-bit processor and virtual memory capabilities. The second was to try and improve the performance of the transported data base by utilising sophisticated data base structures and memory management·techniques facilitated by the larger available memory of the new host to optimise the data base operations. The effectiveness of the two paths in achieving their respective goals was evaluated using evaluation programs which simulated characteristic data base activities.This thesis documents the above process, as well as expounds on some of the background related theory which was instrumental in the progress of the project and the drawing of the final conclusions. / Thesis (M.Sc.)-University of Natal, Durban, 1987.

In 2019, the World Health Organization classified vaccine hesitancy as one of the ten biggest threats to global health. Since then, the anti-vaccination movement has expanded, at the same time as the Covid-19 virus has spread around the world. This thesis examines how opinion leaders in an anti-vaccination Facebook group design their communication in order to spread their alternative realities of Covid-19 vaccines. This case study focuses on what a specific anti-vaccination online community’s rhetorical situation looks like, and which rhetorical appeals are being used by the group’s opinion leaders. It has its theoretical starting point in a modified version of Lazarsfeld and Katz’s Two-step flow of communication that was put in relation to Bitzer’s and Aristotle's rhetoric theories. The result shows that the use of logos, ethos and pathos depends on the rhetorical situation. Pathos dominated the opinion leader's Facebook posts as their language was emotionally emphasized and appealed to individuals' feelings. Emotional arguments were seen as an effective approach to receive engagement from the recipients. Logos was the least used appeal and the opinion leaders' arguments rarely involved scientific proof or credible sources. This was considered to be due to the fact that the rhetorical audience consisted of like-minded people who already shared the views of the opinion leader. Therefore, they did not need to be convinced with fact-based arguments. This study was conducted through a netnographic approach and a rhetorical analysis with the aim of helping to fill a knowledge gap that can be helpful as support in preventative measures to reduce vaccine resistance through communication.

MIGRATING FROM A VAX/VMS TO AN INTEL/WINDOWS-NT BASED GROUND STATION

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 25-28, 1999 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / Upgrading or replacing production systems is always a very resource-consuming task, in particular if the systems being replaced are quite specialized, such as those serving any Flight Test Ground Station. In the recent past a large number of Ground Station systems were based in Digital’s VAX/VMS architecture. The computer industry then expanded very fast and by 1990 realtime PCM data processing systems totally dependent on hardware and software designed for IBM-PC compatible micro-computers were becoming available. A complete system replacement in a typical Ground Station can take from one to several years to become a reality. It depends on how complex the original system is, how complex the resulting system needs to be, how much resources are available to support the operation, how soon the organization needs it, etc. This paper intends to review the main concerns encountered during the replacement of a typical VAX/VMS-based by an Intel-Windows NT-based Ground Station. It covers the transition from original requirements to totally new requirements, from mini-computers to micro-computers, from DMA to high-speed LAN data transfers, while conserving some key architectural features. This 8-month development effort will expand EMBRAER’s capability in acquiring, processing and archiving PCM data in the next few years at a lower cost, while preserving compatibility with old legacy flight test data.
