Soto Arbieto, Emma January 2010 (has links)
Micaela Bastidas

Palomino Sahuiña, Milagros Luciana January 2009 (has links)
Objective: To determine the level of knowledge and attitudes towards induced abortion among adolescents in the school Micaela Bastidas. material and Methods: The research is quantitative, the method is descriptive, cross-application level, the study population consisted of 165 adolescents from the school Micaela Bastidas, the technique used for data collection was a survey, using the questionnaire and the Lickert scale instruments, which were previously validated by an expert opinion and pilot tested for reliability statistics. Results: Teenagers school Micaela Bastidas at its present level of knowledge most "average" on induced abortion (73.04%), attitude of "indifference" towards induced abortion (66.06%) and to correlate these two variables is relationship that exists between the level of knowledge and attitudes toward induced abortion. Conclusions: The level of knowledge of adolescents from school Micaela Bastidas on induced abortion is "half" which shows that the information given on this problem is insufficient for what is considered a vulnerable group to develop sexual behavior risk and attitudes toward induced abortion of "indifference", probably because even need to increase and strengthen knowledge about sexual and reproductive health, which will allow later submitted a rejectionist attitude to induced abortion.

The illusionistic pergola in Italian Renaissance architecture : painting and garden culture in early modern Rome, 1500-1620

Nonaka, Natsumi 10 October 2012 (has links)
The present dissertation is intended to be the first systematic investigation of the illusionistic pergola considered within the framework of the intellectual culture and the garden culture of early modern Rome. The subject is the fresco or mosaic decoration featuring a pergola – a depicted trelliswork covered with plants and peopled with birds – in the loggias, porticoes, and garden pavilions of villas and palaces in Rome and its environs. These pictorial fictions have survived in sufficient numbers to constitute a decorative trend, and moreover, appear in clusters at specific periods, which can be partly explained by means of the cultural factors predominant at the time. The dissertation discusses these pergolas in relation to antiquarian culture, the collecting of plants and birds, the study of natural history, garden furnishings and the art of treillage, thereby contextualizing them within the culture of early modern Rome. The dissertation assembles the first corpus of illusionistic pergolas in the period 1500-1620, updating a much earlier general corpus of 1967 by Börsch-Supan, and distinguishes three distinct periods of the proliferation of these pictorial fictions in Rome and its environs: the first period (1517-1520), the second period (1550-1580), and the third period (1600-1620). Important cultural issues relevant to each period are identified, and proposed as the frameworks for study. These include the reference to the antique and to the vernacular, mediation between indoors and outdoors, the tension between art and craft and the ambiguity of the pseudo-architectural, semantic and aesthetic cross reference between architecture and garden, and the reflection of the intellectual culture. On examination, the illusionistic pergolas are revealed to be a nexus of interrelationships between built structure, ornamented surface, garden and landscape, as well as multivalent embodiments of emerging ideas and sensibilities concerning the experience of architectural space and nature. By taking into account the middle ground of architecture and garden, the study explores the multivalence of ephemeral garden furnishings and their fictive counterparts, opening up a new perspective on the sites examined, and attempts to see a resonance of the tradition in modern times. / text

Triumph of the Vanquished: Pancho Villa's Army in Revolutionary Mexico

Klingemann, John Eusebio January 2008 (has links)
"Triumph of the Vanquished: Pancho Villa's Army in Revolutionary Mexico" studies the origins and formation of Francisco "Pancho" Villa's Division del Norte in the states of Chihuahua, Durango, and Coahuila during the Mexican Revolution of 1910. It demonstrates the manner by which guerilla cells based on a military hierarchy grew to brigade-size fighting units and later morphed into the Division. Once fully functional, the Division became a formidable force that achieved legendary status in Mexico's history. After tracing the villistas' rise and decline, the dissertation examines the lives of Pancho Villa's followers after 1920 when many became colonists in lands granted to them by Mexico's government. In 1920, the villistas signed a formal peace agreement with the central government and received properties on four colonies, two in Chihuahua and two in Durango. To analyze villismo past 1920, the dissertation focuses on El Pueblito, a colony located in the northwest region of Chihuahua. It highlights the lives of those ex-villistas turned agriculturalists, an aspect of the Revolution studied by only a few scholars. The general intent of this work is to reveal that ex-villistas -- those who were not a part of the surrender process in 1920 and had separated from the Division after their defeat at the battle of Celaya in 1915 -- continued their political struggle in Chihuahua past 1920 and beyond World War II as a part of the Unificacion de Veteranos de la Revolucion, an institution created in 1946 by veterans of the Revolution in the state. As influential and active members of the institution, the ex-villistas pressured local and national government for veteran assistance. At the same time, the former revolutionaries succeeded, through their involvement in the Unificacion, in maintaining a villista legacy, participating as they did in local events and in the construction of statues throughout the state dedicated to their fallen leader.

Cossani, Ana Laura, Duffard, María Eugenia January 2007 (has links)

Selected choral works from Musica sacra by Heitor Villa-Lobos : a performance edition with critical notes and commentary

Burleson, Jill L. January 2007 (has links)
Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) is regarded as the composer of highest distinction in twentieth-century Brazilian music. His musical compositions, representing virtually every musical genre, reflect his concerted effort toward developing a nationalistic Brazilian style. While the importance of this composer's ouvre and his contribution to a national Brazilian style is well established, particularly with regard to his instrumental works, his sacred choral compositions are generally considered to be peripheral in his overall compositional productivity. Although his major sacred choral works such as Bendita Sabedoria, Missa Sad Sebastian, and Magni scat Alleluia are programmed occasionally, the smaller sacred choral pieces found in his Musica Sacra collection remain less well-known.Musica Sacra, initially published by Vincente Vitale in 1951-52, is an out-of-print collection of twenty-three unaccompanied motet-style pieces, composed throughout Villa-Lobos's lifetime. Limited availability to many of these pieces has resulted in a paucity of programming of this music by choral conductors, as well as a lack of understanding of its place in his collected works. This study provides an updated and corrected performance edition of selected choral pieces from Musica Sacra, providing choral conductors with appropriately edited material for concert programming. It includes historical background, editorial notes, and performance notes to provide context and clarity. In this study, I have compared seventeen pieces from the original Vitale edition with manuscripts provided by the Museu Villa-Lobo, in an effort to represent the composer's musical intent in a manner accessible to the contemporary choral conductor. I have alsoidentified and discussed salient musical traits in this music, exemplifying not only the Spanish Renaissance influence as it existed in the Brazilian society during Villa-Lobos's lifetime, but more broadly reflecting, through its diverse assortment of musical features, an expression of the overall religious syncretism in Brazil at the time.Within the sacred choral framework of Musica Sacra, one discovers the composer's stylized representation of Brazilian musical eclecticism. This is exhibited through elements of musical spontaneity, Brazilian multi-cultural ethnicity, nationalism, European impressionism, Renaissance imitation, and twentieth-century harmonic dissonance. These features represent Villa-Lobos's synthesis of style that, according to Latin American music scholar, Gerard Behague, illuminates "Brazil's Musical Soul." / School of Music
