Ekoparkcenter Omberg / Visitor Center Omberg

Schönning, Erik January 2020 (has links)
Ekopark Omberg is situated on the eastern coast of Vättern and is one of Sweden’s most visited nature areas. The area has been classified as a national interest due to its unique nature and culture. My thesis project is a design proposal for a new visitor center for Ekopark Omberg, where the hiking trail literally goes through the building. The entrance floor is separated into three wooden volumes placed on a concrete base, that handles the dramatic terrain. On top, rests a self-supporting corrugated metal roof. The building´s logic is inspired by the cultural context of the site, such as Alvastra monastery and the medieval castles. The materials in the various volumes are visually present and define functions and programs. The building opens up with a timber grid, to let in the horizontal view of Vättern and the surrounding fields. The smoke signal from the fireplaces together with a warmly lit silhouette like a lantern in the dark, indicate a warm welcome to Visitor Center Omberg.

Evaluation and Development of a University Visitor Parking Management Framework

Gurram, Sashikanth 14 December 2009 (has links)
The main campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) has a current parking inventory of approximately 14,310 parking spaces in 88 surface lots. Of the available parking spaces 92% are designated for the use of Virginia Tech students, faculty and staff members. The share of visitor usage of these parking spaces is approximately 2%. The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the current visitor parking system and develop techniques to enhance the parking facility operations. The current visitor parking demand is determined by conducting a field evaluation of the visitor parking in five parking lots. Personal and follow-up interviews were conducted with university visitors to determine their satisfaction levels with the existing parking facilities. While the survey results demonstrated that 52% of visitors rated the parking services to be good or very good, the study also showed that approximately 28% of the visitors did not know the location of the most convenient parking lot to access their destination and almost 6% were not satisfied with the parking services offered by Virginia Tech. Apart from this, about 32% of the visitors had to visit at least 2 parking lots before finding a parking space. These figures clearly demonstrate a need for a better management of the parking lots to serve the visitors in an efficient way. In an attempt to enhance the visitor parking system a web-based interactive framework is proposed. This framework identifies the best possible parking lot(s) for a selected destination considering various factors like - distance of the parking lot to the destination and typical occupancy of the parking lot at specific times of the day and other relevant factors. The web-based interactive system is designed to provide the visitor with two or more choices for the parking in order to arrive at their desired destination. / Master of Science

Vodojemy - Brno, Žlutý kopec / Reservoirs - Brno, Zluty kopec (Yellow hill)

Murínová, Miriam Unknown Date (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the proposal of new interventions within the area above the underground reservoirs in the area of the Žlutý kopec. Various urban structures, atmospheres and influences of surrounding, natural or urbanistic are encountered in the area. The place is unique for its location near the historic center of Brno, the potential of the green public priesthood within a built-up part of the city with a view of the city's landmark, Spilberk Castle. The aim of the work is to offer a dessign that responds to these impacts and links them in a design that complements existing underground reservoirs. It invites the inhabitants of the city, new visitors or tourists to regenerate body and soul, in the gallery or athletic center in the environment of reservoirs. The programme of the place offers both, the social space through a new cultural and visitor center but also soothing space in the form of a park.

Vodojemy - Brno, Žlutý kopec / Reservoirs - Brno, Zluty kopec (Yellow hill)

Navrátil, Zdeněk Unknown Date (has links)
The task was to design a new use for three former underground reservoirs on Žlutý kopec in Brno and its area. The main goal of the pre-diploma project was to define the use of reservoirs, which is reflected in the urban design. Connections, entrances to the area, the use of existing buildings and overall use of the area is part of the urbanism part. The main design itself contains the building of the information and visitor center, which allows access to the oldest and youngest reservoir. The design of the building uses different height levels in the area and connects the street level with the park level.

Návrh mrakodrapu pro EVOLO Skyscraper Competition 2011 / Designing a Skyscraper for the EVOLO Skyscraper Competition 2011

Smékal, Jan January 2011 (has links)
The Monaco shore extention project consists of few housing resorts, floating breakwater, commertial zones and a harbour. The largest and most complex is the Skyscraper resort on an artificial semifloating island in the middle of a lagoon between the shore and the floating breakwater. Its main purpose is housing which is situated to several floors of the base ring, to the white wings protruding from the skyscraper and to the skyscraper itself. There is also a hotel for 500 visitors in this structure as well as the visitors center, observation platform, technical support, wellness and fit centrum. The resort is accesible via two main connecting streets – one going from the Hercule harbour, second comming to the resort from the main Monaco roundabout next to the Fairmont hotel. Traffic is than in front of the skyscraper redirected either to the hotel frontyard or to the underground parking wings for visitors, or to the parking zones for residents or to the supply zones. Other functions the resort offers are 2 commertial promenades on the gound and 2np floors accesible from the perimetr of the island’s harbour, other commertial zone is more to the the middle of the island, where the visitor, cultural, wellness and restaurant centers are also situated. The cultural multipurpose center accompanies cinema, theater and exhibition features as well as the School of fine arts. For the residents themselves the resort features several facilities – endless swimming pool, the chapel, relaxation pools, 2 parks and all the facilities accessible also for visitors. The island is constructed as semifloating – partly supperted by large piles and coissons, partly floating. Energetic selfsufficience is provided by desaltation plant, solar fotovoltaic plant, energetic piles and gray water treatment plant.

Communicating science : developing an exhibit with scientists and educators

Lemagie, Emily 28 October 2011 (has links)
Outreach is a small, but significant component to modern research. Developing an exhibit for public display can be an effective way to communicate science to broad audiences, although it may be a less familiar method to scientists than writing papers or giving presentations. I outline the process of developing an interactive exhibit for outreach, and evaluate and discuss the effectiveness of a computer exhibit designed to communicate estuary currents and scientific modeling using Olympia Oyster restoration in the Yaquina Bay estuary as a theme. I summarize the results of this project in three primary recommendations: 1) exhibit developers should be deliberate in the decision to use a computer and only select this media if it is determined to be the best for communicating exhibit learning outcomes, 2) the design of visualizations to convey research results should be carefully modified from their scientific forms to best meet the exhibit learning outcomes and expectations of the exhibit audience, and 3) scientists should play an integral role in the development of scientific content-based exhibits, but their expertise, and the range of expertise from other members of the exhibit development team, should be strategically utilized. / Graduation date: 2012
