Design da embalagem: um estudo de caso de uvas européias com semente / Packaging design: a study case of european grape with seeds

Lina Megumi Kamitsuji 04 May 2011 (has links)
The grape is one of the most consumed fresh fruit in Brazil and worldwide. Because Its fragility and perishability, it requires proper packaging, which also serves to protect, expose and promote. We have interviewed 33 wholesalers responsible for 80% of the volume of seeded european grape at Sao Paulo Terminal Market of CEAGESP. The first interview has evaluated the characteristics and importance of packaging perception by wholesalers. At the second interview the wholesalers have chosen the package ideal characteristies for the seeded european grapes and they have concluded for four different package models. The common characteristics of the ideal packaging are: corrugated box, open box, with tabs on the sides, reinforcing the corners, waterproofing, white background, two-color cover (red and green), with illustration, weight 5 kg, height 14 cm, width 30 cm and length 40 cm. The characteristics that differentiate are the number of ventilation holes, two or three and the place of locks - on the frontlet or the side.

Groothandel as eiesoortige grondgebruik in die stadstruktuur, met besondere verwysing na Pretoria

Van Der Walt, Karel Petrus 08 September 2015 (has links)
D.Phil. / The spatial distribution patterns of wholesale establishments on an intra-urban level is a neglected field of study. This is mainly due to the fact that various disciplines regard the wholesale establishment merely as an annexure to industrial land-uses. This study attempts to prove that wholesaling has its own distinct character and that it is indeed necessary to give more serious attention to the locational problem of wholesale establishments ...

The quality of South African lamb - carcass, nutrient and sensory attributes

Van Heerden, Salomina Maria 28 January 2008 (has links)
The aim of the study was to determine the quality of South African lamb, particularly the carcass, nutrient and sensory attributes. To this end the cut composition of SA lamb carcasses with different fat scores was determined and cuts suitable for trimming were identified. Sixty four grain fed Dorper lambs were divided randomly into three slaughter groups of 30, 36 and 42 kg, respectively. After slaughter, electrical stimulation (how much/long) and chilling (how long/temp) the carcass sides were subdivided into seven wholesale cuts. Each cut was dissected into meat, bone and subcutaneous fat (SCF) in order to determine the physical composition per cut and for the whole carcass. It was found that the percentages total fat in the carcass increased with 15.5 % in subcutaneous fat over the five fat classes. In order to determine and compare the raw and cooked nutrient composition of shoulder, loin and leg cuts of Dorper and Merino lamb carcasses of the A age class of fat class 2 (± 7 % SCF) from three main production areas in South Africa were analysed. Samples were analysed both raw (left side cuts) and cooked (right sides) using accredited methodologies for nutrient content namely proximate composition, vitamin B and minerals. There was no significant difference in the iron and zinc values between the cooked cuts. Results showed differences in both trace elements and B vitamins among different cooked cuts, although the differences were not statistically significant. Cooked SA lamb (A age class, fat class 2) contains an average of 60.5 % less total fat and 5.28 % less protein, resulting in 1891 kJ less per 100 g edible portion energy, if compared to the previous values in the food composition tables. Quantitative descriptive sensory analyses were performed by a trained panel on the M. longissimus lumborum (loin) from lambs of the same age. Aroma intensity, initial impression of juiciness, first bite, sustained impression of juiciness, muscle fibre and overall tenderness, amount of connective tissue (residue), overall flavour intensity and off-flavour intensity were measured, as well as cooking related measurements and resistance to shear. With the exception of juiciness, the results in this study showed that contrary to expected carcass fatness (in the same age over five fat classes), as portrayed in the South African Classification system, does not have a significant effect on the sensory qualities of M. longissimus lumborum (loin) from lambs of the same age. This investigation provides important scientific insight into the physical, nutrient and sensory quality of South African lamb. The results obtained show that subcutaneous carcass fat that increased significantly with an increase in fat class can be trimmed to represent leaner cuts to the discerning consumer. This study found unique values for South African lamb cuts, almost 40 % lower in fat content than the previously-believed-to-be-accurate values, as published by the Medical Research Council for health workers. Contrary to expected it was found in this study that increased fatness did not improve lamb tenderness as popularly believed in the United States. Therefore, the study justifies greater scope for further research into all these aspects, as it provides valuable information for the Red Meat Industry. / Thesis (PhD(Consumer Science))--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Consumer Science / PhD / unrestricted

Assessing the Impact of Economically Dispatchable Wind Resources on the New England Wholesale Electricity Market

Goggins, Andrew 01 January 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Among renewable energy resources, wind power is poised to contribute most significantly to meeting future wholesale electricity demand. However, the intermittent nature of wind power makes maintaining system reliability a challenge as the share of installed wind capacity on the grid increases. In New England, wind plants are currently unable to receive automatic dispatch instructions from the regional grid operator, but a centralized wind forecasting system under development will enable wind plants to be dispatched by ISO New England’s automatic dispatch software by 2016. Wind plants will receive an upper bound to their production through so-called Do Not Exceed (DNE) dispatch limits. This study evaluates how the automatic dispatch of wind plants in the ISO New England control area will impact wind plant output, emissions, wholesale energy market prices, and the system-wide generation mix. Wind generation is modeled using 10-minute time-series wind speed data from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Eastern Wind Dataset. Market outcomes for 2020 are then simulated using the spreadsheet-based Oak Ridge Competitive Electricity Dispatch (ORCED) model which mimics the economic dispatch of power plants in deregulated wholesale electricity markets. Results show that imposing DNE dispatch limits reduce total wind generation by a small amount – 6.47% over the course of the study year. The study finds that DNE dispatch limits constrain wind generation often – 28.4% of the year on average – but that the levels of wind generation avoided were typically small – 72.4% of DNE limit curtailment events were at levels below 5% of plant nameplate capacity.
