Wall shear measurements in arterial flows

Etebari, Ali 11 May 2006 (has links)
Cardiovascular disease is responsible for the majority of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Physiologically healthy flow rarely displays turbulent behavior, thereby maintaining normal shear levels. The presence of vortical flow structures, however, alters the hemodynamical characteristics within the system, which has significant effect upon shear stress (SS) and wall shear stress (WSS) levels, as well as particle residence times. The relationship between these hemodynamic parameters and vascular injury response is of great relevance to understanding the cardiovascular disease process. In this work, new methods and algorithms are developed and presented for resolving, both globally and locally, the spatial and temporal variations of shear stress (SS) and WSS for in vitro models of the human cardiovascular system. Advancements in global measurements are based on improving the accuracy of SS and WSS estimation from time-resolved Digital Particle Image Velocimetry (DPIV) velocity measurements. A new velocity derivative method, the fourth-order noise-optimized compact-Richardson implicit scheme, has been developed, overcoming the obstacle of minimizing both the bias and random error in temporal/spatial derivative estimations. The resulting error is on the same order as the velocity measurement error for global measurements which results in an order of magnitude accuracy improvement. The method has been extended to WSS measurements, and combined with a new method of mirroring/reflecting a flow field over its boundary in order to achieve higher-order estimation. For moving boundaries an edge detection cross-correlation algorithm has been developed and characterized, yielding sub-pixel accuracy in measuring dynamic wall position prior to estimating WSS. An original microelectromechanical system (MEMS) WSS sensor capable of delivering high sensitivity, frequency response and accurate WSS measurements has been developed and characterized in this work. / Ph.

How Far Web Services Tools Support OASIS Message Security Standards?

Sistla Shambhu, Maharaj Sastry January 2005 (has links)

There is a great deal of interest burgeoning in the intellectual community regarding Web Services and their usage. Many writers have tried to bring awareness about some unconceived threats lurking behind the enticing Web Services. Threats due to Web Services are on an all time high giving an alarming knock to the Web Services security community. This led to the, Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) made some constraints mandatory in order to standardize message security and these constraints and specifications are presented through a document called WS Security -2004. This work is an attempt to check the support offered by various Web Services Tools available currently. It introduces the reader to Web Services and presents an overview of how far some of the tools have reached in order to make the Web Services environment safe, secure and robust to meet the current day’s requirements. A quantitative approach was taken to investigate the support offered by servers like BEA, Apache Axis etc. The conclusions drawn show that most of the tools meet the imposed standards but a lot more is expected from the web community and these tools; if at all the visions about safe and secure Web Services are to be realized.

Svařování žárově pozinkovaných plechů pomocí hybridní technologie Laser-TIG / Welding of hot-dip galvanized sheets using hybrid Laser-TIG technology

Bukvic, Tomáš January 2021 (has links)
Thesis is focused on verification of suitability of Laser-TIG technology for penetrating welding of galvanized sheets, made of WSS M1A 365-A14 50G steel and DC01 steel. Electric arc functions here as a preheating for evaporation of zink layer. Electric current was chosen as a variable parameter of magnitudes 0, 20, 30 and 40 A. Test welds were made, which have been subjected to a tensile test and metallographic evaluation. The positive influence for electrolytically galvanized steel WSS M1A 365-A14 50G was registered and determination of optimal welding parameters was successful. The electric arc also had a positive effect on welding of hot-dip galvanized steel DC01, but at the selected test parameters not enough to achieve a reliable connection.

Verksamhetsanpassning av IT-baserat finanssystem / Business Configuration of IT-based Treasury System

Fors, Lisa January 2012 (has links)
If P&C Insurance Company faces a challenge when their treasury system needs a new interface to a software as a service application. They need a suggestion for configuration for how the system and the application can work together. The work presented in this report is a suggestion for how you can make business configuration of an IT-based Treasury System in general. The exact configuration for the case received from If is presented as a separate report, found in Appendix A and is called the If-report. The If-report presents the suggested technical set-up of the configuration. It is not company specific but system and application specific. The work made in that report will be a standard in future version of the treasury system. The work made in this report is presented to the Royal Institute of Technology and can work as an example of how to approach a business configuration that needs to be done in an IT-based Treasury System.

Srovnání pulsujícího proudění newtonské a ne-newtonské kapaliny v komplexní geometrii / Comparison of Pulsating Flow of Newtonian and non-Newtonian Fluid in Complex Geometry

Kohút, Jiří January 2020 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with pulsating flow of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid. Theoretical part represents necessary theoretical knowledge for pulsating flow and understanding of non-Newtonian behaviour. Furthermore the thesis focus is directed on numerical simulation of pulsating flow in straight, ideally rigid tube and in patient-specific model of human artery, more precisely in carotid. Two methods are used: numerical solution based on finite volume method (FVM) and also analytical solution using Bessel functions by Womersley. Results are validated against experimental measurements of velocity profiles by particle image velocity method (PIV). The agreement between numerical and experimental data with consideration of PIV inaccuracy was was very good from both point of views - qualitative and quantitative. Numerical solution also compare influence of turbulence and non-Newtonian behaviour towards base (laminar flow, Newtonian fluid). Developed methodology is then applied on patient-specific model of carotid, which was renovated from computed tomography. Measurements in vivo in human arteries is very expensive and often invasive. Because of that measurement outputs are limited, most of the time on pressure and flow. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is non-invasive and outputs are through whole domain. Due to these advantages CFD significantly contributes to understanding of hemodynamics influence in cardiovascular diseases.
