Sensibilidade da primeira soca da cana-de-açúcar ao excesso de água no solo / First leaf of sugar cane sensitivity to soil

Kelly Tagianne Santos de Souza 10 February 2011 (has links)
The expansion of sugar cane cultivation will promote the incorporation of new areas in the process, and in this process, areas with drainage problems possibly artificial drainage maybe used. For the proper use of these areas the correct drainage design of the systems is important. For the non-permanent rational design, it is necessary to determine the minimum speed of lowering the water table to be provided by the drains, which depends on the sensitivity of each culture. This work aims to determine the effect of different speeds of lowering the water table at different stages of development of first ratoon of sugar cane. The experiment was conducted in 64 lysimeters the water table in a randomized block design, arranged in a factorial (3 x 5 + 1) x 4, with 3 stages of development, 5-speed to lower the water table and a treatment who will not suffer stress by excessive moisture. The first sugar cane re-sprout has presented endurance to the soil flooding at the different culture stages and to the different lowering water table speeds, without higher damages to the vegetable development or even farm productivity, but according to the ATR variable, the sugar cane ratoon has shown more sensitive when the flooding has happened at the re-sprouting stage. It was conclude that none of the speeds of lowering tested at the 3 stages reduced yield. The flooding conditions did not affect soil pH.

Determinação empírica da evapotranspiração em zona ripária e áreas vizinhas (Cerrado stricto sensu e eucalipto) / Empirical determination of evapotranspiration in the riparian zone and neighboring areas (Cerrado stricto sensu and eucalyptus)

Andres Felipe Hatum Ponton 03 March 2017 (has links)
In riparian zones the groundwater is close to the soil surface and the roots of its vegetation have contact with it. As a result, evapotranspiration (ET) rates are high, generating diurnal groundwater level fluctuations. Despite Latin America\'s water resources wealth, reports of evapotranspiration in its riparian zones are scarce. The probable reasons of little investigation in the area can be attributed to the economical difficulties to access the equipments necessary for this kind of measurement. Furthermore, the application of techniques as remote sensing, eddy covariance or Bowen ratio is limited, due to the usual narrow fetch that are found in the riparian zones. The aim of this study was to determine the ET in the riparian zone and its surroudings areas, using methods based on the diurnal groundwater level fluctuations. To develop this study, monitoring wells were installed in the Ribeirão da Onça basin. The water table depth was recorded in dataloggers using a 15-minute interval, from 09/2015 to 10/2016. The transient specific yield was estimated by improving the Haines funnel coupled to a precision balance. In function of the daily fluctuation regime of the groundwater table, it was adopted the S*y corresponding to 6 hours of drainage. The results show that, in the riparian zone, evapotranspiration ranges from 2,74 to 14,90 mm/d. For Cerrado stricto sensu and eucalyptus, the ET variations are 1,23 to 2,02 mm/d and 1,96 to 5,45 mm/d, respectively, being consistent with previous studies performed in Brazil. The application of diurnal groundwater level fluctuations methods shows to have the potential to estimate evapotranspiration in narrow areas, with low economic investment.

Développement d'un modèle hydrologique de colonne représentant l'interaction nappe - végétation - atmosphère et applications à l'échelle du bassin versant / Development of a soil column model for simulating the water table - vegetation - atmosphere interaction and applications to the catchment scale

Maquin, Mathilde 30 September 2016 (has links)
The representation of the water cycle on land surfaces is essential for climate modeling. Nowadays, the "Land Surface Models" (LSMs) represent soil columns of a few meters deep and they simulate the temporal evolution of the vertical water flows and the interaction with the atmosphere. However, the interaction with a near-surface water table is not taken into account although it strongly influences the evapotranspiration fluxes at the local scale, and therefore the climate at the regional scale. This interaction, which occurs at a smaller scale than the grid scale of the LSMs, is difficult to model. The objective of this PhD is to propose a model that incorporates the impact of a near-surface water table on evapotranspiration fluxes for global climate models. The computation time of the model must be small enough to enable simulations at large spatial and temporal scales. In this context, a new soil column model is proposed with a drainage function that is imposed at the bottom of the column. This function aims at reproducing the temporal evolution of the water table level in interaction with both the infiltration and the evapotranspiration fluxes. The model is tested and validated on numerical experiments and on a real catchment (Strengbach, France). A methodology based on this column model is introduced to estimate the evapotranspiration fluxes taking into account their subgrid variability. This methodology is applied to a catchment whose area is similar to the one of a classic grid cell of LSMs (Little Washita, USA).

Kučerová, Andrea January 2011 (has links)
The thesis was intended to fill the information gap in the ecohydrology of the Pinus rotundata dominated peatbogs in the Třeboň Basin Biosphere Reserve, Czech Republic by studying various aspects of their water régime (i.e., transpiration of the dominant tree species, soil water chemistry, retention ability). The study is based on regular monitoring of the water table, water discharge, soil water chemistry and precipitation (during 1995-2000, study sites Červené blato and Žofinka peatbogs). Additionally, the transpiration of adult Pinus rotundata trees was measured in the field during 1999-2000 at the experimental plot in the Červené blato peatbog (330 ha, 465-475 m a.s.l.). Nowadays, the Pinus rotundata-dominated peatbogs represent almost natural (peaty) forests inside of otherwise human-made forest plantations. Long-term vegetation changes after natural disturbances such as windstorms, insect infestation and fire are only occasionally reported for the central European natural forests. Therefore the evaluation of vegetation changes after disturbances, typical of boreal forests, and their impact on peatbog hydrology has also been included in this thesis (study site Žofinka peatbog, 130 ha, 470-475 m a.s.l.). Transpiration of the central European endemic tree species, Pinus rotundata Link, was...

Banco de dados geológico-geotécnicos com base em sondagens à percussão e uso de SIG: análise espacial da profundidade do lençol freático e do \'N IND.SPT\' para obras de fundação em João Pessoa - PB / Geological-geotechnical Database with SPT sounding data and GIS: spatial analysis of water table level and \'N IND.SPT\' values applied to foundation maps in João Pessoa - PB (Brazil)

Soares, Wanessa Cartaxo 22 September 2011 (has links)
Geological-geotechnical databases have been used as important assistant tools in urban and environmental management activities. However, the kind of information necessary for one to work with such tools may not always be available or easily supplied. This work concerns the generation of a Decision Support System undertaken through means of a Geographic Information System (Arcgis 9.1). It presents the development of a geological geotechnical database of João Pessoa-PB, based on information obtained from boring logs of soundings with Standard Penetration Tests. This database has been designed to act as an additional support to the urban and environmental management city activities, as it might also work as an important resource to academic and practical fields. The research evolved important stages of database preparation and organization (digital topographic base), followed by spatial modeling and analysis such as digital elevation model (DEM) generation, location and insertion of all geological-geotechnical information. Deterministic (Topo to Raster) and Geostatistical (Ordinary Krigging) methods were used and compared during spatial modeling and analysis of two main variables: water table level and \'N IND.SPT\' values. Results were integrated in order to obtain water table level maps, as to foundation engineering works, for three different area sectors and depths.

Patterns of water table dynamics and runoff generation in a watershed with preferential flow networks

Anderson, Axel Edward 05 1900 (has links)
Our understanding of subsurface flow depends on assumptions of how event characteristics and spatial scale affect the relationships between subsurface water velocity, discharge, water table dynamics, and runoff response. In this thesis, three chapters explore some of these patterns for a hillslope and small watershed in coastal British Columbia. In the first chapter, tracers were applied under natural and steady state conditions to determine the relationship between lateral tracer velocities and various hillslope and event characteristics; such as hillslope subsurface flow, rainfall intensity, water table level, hillslope length, and antecedent condition. The results showed that preferential flow made up a large percentage of the subsurface flow from the gauged hillslope. Flow velocities as measured by tracers were affected by slope length and boundary conditions. The flow velocity was most closely related to the rainfall intensity, and changes in flow velocity were large compared to the changes in the water table. In the second chapter, the preferential flow features that transmitted water during steady state were investigated by staining the soil with a food dye solution and excavating the soil. These data were used to explore the link between the topographical factors (slope and contributing area), the network of preferential features and soil properties. The contributing area appeared to be an indicator of the size of the preferential features and their connectivity. In the final manuscript chapter, water table level and stream discharge measurements were used to determine if areas within a watershed with runoff dominated by preferential flow could be grouped based on the observable physical information such as slope, contributing area, distance to stream, and vegetation. Preferential flow made the water table responses dynamic and thus, distinct zones could not be identified. Models of the water table – runoff were not able to predict the water table response for other sites with similar physical characteristics. Even though there was high variability in the results, the patterns and relationships revealed in this thesis conform to existing conceptual models of hillslope subsurface preferential flow. These patterns and relationships may be useful in developing or validating numerical models.

Regeneração natural, relações ambientais e invasão biológica em duas veredas do Triângulo Mineiro / Natural regeneration, environmental relations and biological invasion in two trails of the Triângulo Mineiro

Soares, Danúbia Magalhães 29 February 2016 (has links)
Capítulo 3: Natural regeneration and biological invasion by Pinus caribaea Morelet in two vereda sites: woody vegetation response. / Veredas are heterogeneous ecosystems when it comes to environmental conditions and floristic composition. Although regarded as Permanent Protection Areas – according to Brazilian environmental law, they are highly sensitive to indirect environmental impacts which might affect the plant community composition. In this sense, our research aimed to analyze the woody regeneration and the representativeness of plant groups on soil coverage at two vereda areas under similar environmental pressures in presence (vereda 1) and absence (vereda 2) of native vegetation adjacent to the edge. For this purpose we sampled 15 woody regenerating individuals throughout transects perpendicular to the drain line in which vereda area. We measured the soil coverage using the Line - Intercept method in the plots. We found 369 woody regenerating individuals in vereda 1 and 1.053 individuals in vereda 2. In despite of the significant difference in density, the woody regeneratings diversity was similar in both areas (30 species in vereda 1 and 35 species in vereda 2). The most representative families were as follow: Melastomataceae, Asteraceae and Myrtaceae in vereda 1 and Melastomataceae, Myrtaceae and Fabaceae in vereda 2. Besides the low observed diversity, a reduced number of species were dominant in woody regeneration at both vereda sites, being Leandra erostrata the species bearing the highest density value. We found species related to forest formations in the regenerating floristic composition, especially in vereda 2. We observed the alien species Pinus caribaea in both vereda areas, the vereda 1 showed the highest natural regeneration índex though. We also observed typical zonation tendencies on soil coverage and woody regeneration composition, although we recorded a “trembleyal zone” on the left edge. Regarding the presence of species more sensitive to environmental disturbances such as Miconia theizans and more resistant ones such as T. parviflora, the veredas seem to foster distinct degradation conditions. In despite of the presence of native regeneration adjacent to vereda 2, this are shows signs of impact on vegetation, linked to water table lowering whilst vereda 1 shows signs of higher disturbances in the edge, besides a remarkable biological invasion by Pinus caribaea. / Dissertação (Mestrado)
