E-leadership and its Influence on Employees : A qualitative study from the perspective of employees working on site

Sterner, Olivia, Bagger, Moa January 2022 (has links)
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies have switched to remote work as this has been the recommendations from the Swedish Public Health Agency (Folkhalsomyndigheten, 2021). While some companies have been able to adapt the entire business to remote work, others have not been able to do so since the job requires physical attendance. This has led managers especially within the public sector to work remotely whilst the employees that work hands on still work on site. Current literature is mostly focused on e-leadership within the private sector and where the entire team is working remotely. Thus, we want to answer the following research question:  How do e-leadership influence employees working on site in public welfare organizations in Sweden? The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of e-leadership's influence on employees working on site in public welfare organizations. To answer the research question and fulfill the purpose, we have conducted seven semi-structured interviews. By using a thematic analysis with an inductive approach, findings suggest that leaders performing e-leadership influences employees working on site in public welfare organizations in Sweden through four different dimensions. Firstly, the leader's absence increases employee empowerment. Secondly, the way leaders establish communication controls the employees perception of the relationship. Thirdly, how leaders show presence regulates employees motivation. Lastly, the restructuring of the organization contributes to employees feeling stressed.  This study contributes to leadership theory by bringing new insights to the area of e-leadership, especially for public welfare organizations in Sweden, within teams that are not fully geographically dispersed. Even if e-leadership is similar to face-to-face leadership in many ways, things like informal conversations, personal feedback and insights into the daily work is likely to decrease or disappear. Thus, making sure that continuous follow-ups are made of how the organization's most important asset, its employees, are being influenced by having an e-leader are beneficial. Our research can provide a basis for, or at least a pointer to, public welfare organizations when updating policies on how their leadership should be carried out to achieve organizational leadership success.

Exploring social workers’ integration of the person-centred approach into practice within different working contexts

Mbedzi, Rembuluwani Paul 21 September 2011 (has links)
The social work profession requires the accumulation of theory, knowledge, skills and their integration into practice. The department of social work at UNISA trains students according to the person-centred approach (PCA). The question thus arises whether the social workers trained in PCA at UNISA are able to integrate theory into practice in their different areas of employment. Exploring this would give the department of social work an opportunity to re-visit the teaching of PCA and make some improvements if necessary. The qualitative study was conducted with social workers employed in different welfare organizations in Pretoria. The following themes emerged from the analysis: the perceived significance of building relationship with clients, the organizational influence in counselling, unique experiences with regard to colleagues who graduated from other institutions, challenges in handling a conflict or crisis situation, and lastly the nature of statutory cases. The conclusions were drawn and recommendations were presented. / Social Science / M.A. (Mental Health)

The Social Welfare Policy of Singapore: An Analysis of State Corporatism

Huang, Tzu-Ting 31 December 2005 (has links)
Based on analyzing the macro and micro factors in Singapore¡¦s social welfare policy, this thesis proposes the frame work of ¡§state corporatism¡¨ to explain Singapore¡¦s social welfare policy. Since 1959 Singapore be independent from Britain, Lee Kuan Yew had led the PAP government in an authoritarian style and promoted a paternal social welfare. The core ideas of Singapore¡¦s social welfare policy, voluntarism and communitarianism, strongly related to the personal ideology of Lee Kuan Yew and the confucian society in Singapore. In the macro background of nation¡¦s level, we can divide the society into the subgroups as ethnic groups, opposition parties, class groups and voluntary welfare organizations (VWOs). These four groups worked through the four phrases in Singapore¡¦s social welfare policy : pre-corporatism period, exclusive corporatism period, inclusive corporatism period and extrinsic corporatism period. The whole presentation of Singapore¡¦s social welfare policy can be observed from their negotiation, interaction and bargaining with the government. This thesis conludes that the strategy of Singapore¡¦s social welfare policy is ¡§using greater quantity and quality of voluntarianism to fill up the retreat of state¡¨. Therefore in the history of Singapore¡¦s social welfare policy, when comparing to the other social groups, the extent of VWOs corporating with the government was much greater than the others and their influential power in social welfare policy during these four periods turned from weak to moderate, and strong eventually.

Bestuurstake van vrywilligers as lede van Afrikaanse Christelike Vroue vereniging besture

Van der Merwe, Christina Geretta 30 November 2004 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The purpose of the study is to examine the extent and demands volunteers have in a managerial function. Volunteers are responsible for the management of the branches of the ACVV, functioning in a specific environment. The variables of these environments have a definite influence on the functioning of a branch and place specific demands on the members. The group of respondents consisted of chairpersons of branches of the ACVV in the West Coast region. The findings of the empirical studies are that all levels of the environment bring pressure to bear upon volunteers. The demands placed upon them have a bearing on the managerial tasks and have a negative effect on the willingness of volunteers to serve as board members. It is imperative that training and development of volunteers, in welfare organizations, must be ongoing in order to empower and give them confidence for these managerial tasks. / Social Work / M. Voorkoms en hantering van werkstres by maatskaplike werkers

Marquard, Lesley Heather 31 March 2006 (has links)
SUMMARY The purpose of this research study is to investigate the occurrence and management of work stress by social workers in the Paarl-vicinity in order to make recommendations to the management of welfare organisations regarding the promotion of effective stress management of social workers. Eleven welfare organisations in the Paarl-vicinity were involved in the investigation while twenty social workers participated in the investigation. With reference to the empirical study, it was concluded that social workers in the Paarl-vicinity do experience work stress and that the majority of the welfare organisations in the Paarl-vicinity do not have programmes for stress management available for their social workers. Based on these conclusions it was recommended that both the social worker and the organisations must take co-responsibility for the social workers effective stress management by utilizing individual- and organisational stress management strategies. / Social work / M.Diac.
