Osobnostní souvislosti subjektivní pohody, psychologické pohody a sebehodnocení / Personality associations of subjective well-being, psychological well-being aand self-esteem

Zelinová, Alena January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the very topical theme of well-being. Its aims are (1) to explore the personality context of the three most commonly used concepts of well-being - subjective, psychological well-being and self-esteem, (2) to confirm the connection of well-being with personality traits and to contribute to clarifying other personality contexts that the research sounds ambiguous - with values, identity styles, and coping strategies, and (3) find different patterns of relationships of individual concepts of well-being with measured variables, thus confirming the uniqueness of these constructs. The methods used include the calculation of correlation coefficients between individual concepts of well-being and all other variables and the calculation of differences by correlating other variables with all three pairs of well-being concepts. The results largely confirmed expectations. The weakest relationships with personality variables were found in subjective well-being, operationalized as life satisfaction. Life satisfaction was most predicted by stability, commitment, and extraversion. Psychological well-being was most predicted by commitment, stability, extraversion, conscientiousness, and a negative diffusion style of identity. Self-esteem was most strongly predicted by stability, a...

Bem-estar de adolescentes e a sua relação com a espiritualidade e a religiosidade

Strelhow, Miriam Raquel Wachholz January 2017 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate the relationship of spirituality and religiosity with the wellbeing of adolescents, considering both subjective and psychological well-being. Six studies were developed. The first one is a Systematic Review that sought to verify the relationship between well-being and spirituality and religiosity among adolescents, based on empirical articles published in the last 5 years. We selected 26 articles that indicate that there is a relationship between these aspects, and that this is generally positive. Studies 2 to 4 present a psychometric evaluation of the following instruments: Psychological Well-being Scale, Duke Religious Index, and the Spirituality, Religion and Personal Beliefs module (WHOQOLSRPB). Study 5 investigates a hypothetical model of well-being among adolescents, composed of dimensions of subjective and psychological well-being. Study 6 seeks to investigate the relationship of spirituality and religiosity with the well-being of Brazilian adolescents. In the latter two studies, the possible differences in the measures used by age and sex are also analyzed. The sample of studies 2 to 6 was composed of 1,248 Brazilian adolescents aged 12 to 18 years (M = 15.09, SD = 1.77). The research was conducted online, through a website created specifically for this purpose. For study 4, 58 adolescents (M = 14.08, SD = 1.65) also participated in focus groups. For studies 5 and 6, in addition to the instruments already cited, a life satisfaction scale (BMLSS) and an affects scale (CAS) were used. The results of studies 2 to 4 indicated, in general, good overall fit indices for factor analysis (exploratory and confirmatory), as well as the invariance of instruments by sex and age. In study 5 we tested models of relations between subjective and psychological well-being through SEM. From the results, we opted for an integrated, single-factor model, explaining both measures. In study 6 the results indicated positive relations between spirituality and religiosity with the integrated model of well-being. Regarding the differences by means, for subjective well-being were found significant differences by sex (girls with larger means), and for psychological well-being differences by sex and age, with the results presented for each subscale. Regarding religiosity and spirituality there were differences both by sex and by age. In general, girls presented higher averages, and a pattern of age differences was not found. The conclusion is that the subjective and psychological well-being of adolescents are highly correlated and can be understood in an integrated model of well-being, and that both spirituality and religiosity have positive contributions to this well-being.

Mbusa-Making : An Artistic Practice of Well-being Among the Bemba of Zambia

Christopoulou, Ariadni January 2021 (has links)
This thesis is a contribution to a broader interdisciplinary exploration of the ways in which emotional well-being manifests in communal contexts. Using the artistic practice of Mbusa-making among the Bemba of Zambia as a case study, it understands emotional well-being as a relational practice and a dynamic process, not as an attained goal, an affective state, or a static situation. The data used for the thesis are drawn from previous research on the art of Mbusa, specifically that of Audrey Richards in the 1930s and of Bennetta Jules-Rosette in the 1970s, with supplementary distance interviews conducted by the author of this thesis, throughout 2020 and 2021. The thesis seeks to map out the experience of well-being with the utilization of conceptual tools given mainly by existential-phenomenological anthropology. Its main objective is to revisit some pioneer ethnographic studies, by focusing on Mbusa's underestimated link to emotional well-being, enriching them with contemporary theories on imagination, agency, and personhood. The thesis discusses the mainstream discourse on well-being as sit is associated with hapiness, physical health, and the social indicators for the quality of life among poor and wealthy nations. Thus, it places the practice of Mbusa amid that widespread approach, questioning it. The case of this Bemba practice in Zambia is used to illustrate the point that well-being is the universal, ever-present act of coping with adversity and to demonstrate its artistic and imaginative qualities that help people be in the world.

Psychologické aspekty dopadu pandemie covid-19 na zaměstnance retailové společnosti. / Psychological aspects of covid-19 pandemic on employees of retail chain company.

Šíma, Adam January 2021 (has links)
Thesis focuses on impact of covid-19 pandemic on employees of retail chain store, who couldn't work during the lockdown. Using self-evaluation questionnaire and CD - RISC 10 scale we mapped selected aspects like well-being, perception of risk of infection, teamwork, experienced emotion and resilience. Survey was completed during both spring and autumn lockdown. We processed the results using correlations, linear regressions and paired t-test on sample of n=199 employees during the spring, n=192 employees during autumn. We managed to pair 41 answers. During the spring survey we found several significant correlation between variables: percieved difficulty of lockdown and percieving the infection as risky (r=0,313, p <0,001), satisfaction of employee with: the communication with superior and need to communicate (r=0,424, p <0,001) and feeling of being informed (r=0,545, p <0,001). Percieved difficulty of lockdown weakly correlated with emotion of fear (r=0,346, p <0,001). For variables well-being we found two significant predictors: emotion of sadness (p=0,004) and anger (p=0,039), for variable percieing the difficulty of lockdown we managed to find two predictors: percieving the infection as risky (p=0,001) and importance of emotion in respondent's life (p=0,035). Feeling of being informed from the...

Vliv vzdělávání seniorů na kvalitu jejich života / The Influence of Education of the Elderly on the Quality of Their Life

Broncová, Kateřina January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis focuses on education of older adults in relation to quality of life. The aim of the thesis is to identify the association between the participation of the elderly in education and their subjective quality of life. The study focused on identification of the association between quality of life and education at the university of the third age is designed based on theoretical and empirical findings. The quality of life is assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD instruments. Quality of life assessment scores of 645 participants of the university of the third age are compared with normative scores for older adults. The study also examines the association between selected aspects of participation in the university of the third age, participation in other educational activities and quality of life of the elderly. The results confirmed that the education at the university of the third age is associated with subjective quality of life. The results also display that participation frequency and the number of semesters attended is not associated with the quality of life and that the contact with other university members and participation in other educational activities has very weak association with quality of life. These findings are discussed according to the theoretical resources and...

Does subjective (un)happiness predict religious extremism?

Andersson, Pontus January 2021 (has links)
With religious extremism being a destructive force in many parts of the world, the mission to understand and mitigate it is always actual. The current thesis tries to contribute to the knowledge of this phenomenon by investigating it through a very particular lens – its relation to subjective happiness. This is done through finding the answer to the research question “Does subjective (un)happiness predict religious extremism?”, using various quantitative gamma and chi-squared tests of association, as well as data from the World Values Survey, wave 7. Although it is hypothesised, based on previous research, that subjective happiness should have either a positive or negative relation with holding religiously extreme views, none of this is proven correct. Instead, a conclusion entirely new to the field of psycho-emotional well-being and political views emerges, namely that religious extremists tend to evaluate their happiness and sense of well-being just as extremely as they do societal and religious matters. This not only disproves the conclusions drawn by certain previous studies, it also provides a whole new perspective as to how to understand the inner worlds of individuals drawn to the ideas of religious extremism, something crucial for successful mitigation of this harmful phenomenon.

Psychometric Properties of the Survey on Flourishing (SURF) in a Nationally Representative Adolescent Sample

Salazar, Gus C. 18 April 2022 (has links)
Background: Adolescent subjective well-being is a topic that has gained significant focus over recent years. This focus is reflected in the formation of measurement tools and interventions used to better understand and improve adolescent mental health. While these are important steps, there still exist problems related to adolescent subjective well-being measurement. Notably, current measurement tools are limited in their content, applicability to various populations, and in their accessibility. Aims: The purpose of this paper is to examine the psychometric properties of the Survey on Flourishing (SURF) when used with a nationally representative adolescent sample. The SURF aims to address some of the issues with current adolescent subjective well-being measurement tools. Method: A nationally representative sample of 334 participants participated in the present study. We examined the reliability and validity of the SURF by examining its internal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. We also examined the factor structure of the SURF using a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results: The SURF demonstrated high internal consistency (α = .92), strong positive correlation with convergent measures, and a weak negative correlation with a discriminant measure. A one-factor model best fits the observed data. Conclusion: The SURF demonstrated good psychometric properties and addresses several of the problems that exist in current measures. The SURF is a useful and effective measure of adolescent subjective well-being.

Well-Being Among Parents of Young Adults With Intellectual Disabilities When Transitioning From High School

Thompson, Teshawnia 01 January 2018 (has links)
Transition out of high school for young adults with intellectual disabilities (IDs) has been described as a stressful time for individuals and their families, with increased demands for caregiving and parental support. A lack of research is associated specifically with those individuals with moderate IDs and their parents' experiences of well-being during the transition process. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand how parents of young adult-aged children with moderate IDs experience well-being as their child transitions from high school to adulthood. Ryff's model of psychological well-being was used as the conceptual framework to better understand and explore the psychological well-being of parents as they navigate through the transition process. Eight parents from an urban Georgia school district were recruited through criterion sampling and participated in individual semistructured face-to-face interviews. Constant comparison analysis was used to analyze the data. There were 8 major themes that emerged from describing the lived experience of parents: (a) expectations and preparation, (b) experience with school, (c) accessing and coordinating services, (d) social support systems, (e) daily activities and planning, (f) life as an adjustment, (g) personal growth, and (h) looking toward the future. School districts and adult service providers may gain insight from parent perspectives to help alleviate rather than exacerbate the challenges parents face during the transition process, which would contribute to the parents' psychological well-being.

Vliv školy na hodnocení životní spokojenosti mladých lidí / The influence of school on the evaluation of life satisfaction of young people

Spitzerová, Markéta January 2021 (has links)
and keywords in English The diploma thesis deals with the relationship between pupils' overall life satisfaction and school climate. In this work school climate is represented by four aspects: pupils' sense of security, social relations at school, school success and career planning. Another question which has been analysed is whether the pupils' life satisfaction is affected by the type of school. The relationships were verified on the data from the PISA survey from 2018 using hierarchical linear models. A significant association between the type of school and the pupils' overall life satisfaction has been present only when there were no other variables in the model that would describe the school climate. Another important phenomenon is a relationship between pupils' overall life satisfaction and relationships at school (not only with classmates, but also with teachers). Model 2 shows that good relationships with classmates and teachers could also be a weak moderator of the relationship between the negative experience of bullying and pupils' life satisfaction. In the analysis a positive association between academic achievements and life satisfaction was identified only when the academic achievements were represented by marks, not by the average reading literacy score. In this work the conclusions...
