The topic of the diploma thesis assignment is the elaboration of an architectural study of a selected building - a hotel, from a pre-diploma project of an urban solution of the Sports and Recreation Resort Králíky okr. Ústí nad Orlicí. The content of the building consists primarily in accommodation in **** hotel rooms for 60 beds. The hotel also has a restaurant with a terrace, with a capacity of 100 seats, from which there is a view of the surrounding countryside and the Hedeč Monastery, which is located on top of the hill. There is also a wellness hotel with a sauna world, a gym, a massage room and a small shop with ski equipment.

La prévention en chiropraxie : son utilisation et sa validité scientifique / Chiropractic prevention : its use and scientific validity

La chiropraxie est une thérapie manuelle fondée à la fin de XIXème siècle aux Etats-Unis. Au cours du XXème siècle, cette profession a su, dans certains pays, s’insérer progressivement au sein du système de santé et académique. Aujourd’hui, en France, la chiropraxie est définie comme une profession de la santé visant à la prévention et au traitement des troubles neuro-musculo-squelettiques.En marge de cette évolution, certains chiropracteurs adoptent une approche thérapeutique conservatrice, en accord avec les principes fondateurs de la chiropraxie. C’est particulièrement le cas dans le domaine de la prévention, où les soins de wellness sont parfois utilisés en chiropraxie. Les soins de wellness peuvent notamment être composés d’ajustements chiropratiques, visant à prévenir primairement les troubles neuro-musculo-squelettiques, mais aussi les troubles non neuro-musculo-squelettiques.Les travaux constitutifs de cette thèse ont pour but d’étudier la prévention en chiropraxie, principalement chez des patients asymptomatiques. La première revue systématique de la littérature a mis en évidence le fait que les chiropracteurs souhaitent effectuer des actes de prévention primaire auprès de leurs patients, y compris des soins de wellness. Cependant, les patients chiropratiques ne souhaitent pas consulter pour ces motifs. La deuxième revue systématique a montré que la prévention primaire/secondaire précoce des troubles non neuro-musculo-squelettiques n’est pas soutenue par l’évidence scientifique. Enfin, l’enquête effectuée auprès des étudiants en chiropraxie a montré que ces derniers ont des difficultés à identifier les cas de non-indications au traitement chiropratique préventif chez les patients asymptomatiques. Il a également été montré que ces difficultés sont associées à leurs opinions conservatrices envers la chiropraxie. / Chiropractic is a manual therapy founded in United States at the end of the XIXth century. During the XXth century, progressively in some countries, this profession succeeded to be integrated in the health care and academic systems. Today, in France, the chiropractic profession is defined as a health profession allowed to prevent and treat neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. However, some chiropractors have a conservative therapeutic approach, following the original principles of chiropractic. This approach is used in a form of chiropractic prevention, called wellness care. This type of care can especially include chiropractic ‘adjustments’ of the spine to primary prevent both neuro-musculoskeletal and non neuro-musculoskeletal disorders.The main goal of this theses is to study chiropractic prevention, mainly on asymptomatic patients. The first systematic review showed that chiropractors are willing to offer primary prevention care to their patients, wellness care included. However, chiropractic patients are not willing to consult a chiropractor for this motive. The second systematic review showed that primary/early secondary prevention of non neuro-musculoskeletal disorders is not supported by the scientific literature. Finally, a survey carried out on chiropractic students, showed that they have some difficulties to correctly identify chiropractic non-indicated cases on asymptomatic patients. These difficulties were found to be associated with their conservative approach to chiropractic care.

Wellness tourism: through the lens of millennials' attitude : An exploratory qualitative study

Abstract Background:        In recent years a rising concern towards health enhancement activities has been prominent across populations, leading to the emergence of a multi-dollar industry, namely the wellness industry, which spans across a wide spectrum of sectors, ranging from organic food to tourism. In fact, wellness tourism has been growing at an exponential rate, generating high revenues, forecast to rise. Given that millennials have been gradually replacing former generations, in volume size, it becomes evident why this age cohort has garnered massive media attention worldwide. Purpose: Nevertheless, although wellness tourism industry has sparked the attention of academic scholars and industry professionals, scant academic research has been conducted on the wellness travel attitude of this age cohort. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the attitude of millennials’ towards wellness travelling.                            Method:              For the purpose of this study, a qualitative research comprised of 11 in-depth semi-structured interviews was conducted within a sample of individual’s aged 23-35. Conclusion:          The results of this research indicated that this generational segment displayed a particular travel attitude towards wellness tourism, which can be understood from a cognitive, affective, and conative angle. Overall, the main cognitive associations and thoughts with wellness tourism entailed the notion of relaxation, and health-enhancement, whilst the core emotions experienced ranged from inner fulfillment, and happiness to nostalgia and serenity. The main benefits sought involved, escape from daily life and stress relief, which are consistent with prior studies. It was clear from this study that millennials are price-sensitive, and they cherish the variety of activities along with the novelty of experiences when travelling for wellness. This research also sheds light on the most frequently employed travel platforms and channels of communication, which can provide tourism marketing specialists and industry professionals with constructive recommendations in terms of advertising and communication of wellness travel offerings. However, due to time constraints, this study was subject to certain limitations, which hinder the generalizability of results across broader populations and diverse wellness travelers. Future research is thus much anticipated and needed to dig deeper into this lucrative market.

Thesis (MPH.) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / The study was conducted in Polokwane sub-district targeting all the employees at Polokwane One-stop Centre. The specific focus was drawn to all permanent Social workers, Community Development workers and Social Auxiliary workers. The aim of the study was to explore barriers influencing employee participation in Employee Health and Wellness Programmes and to describe barriers influencing employee participation in Employee Health and Wellness Programmes. The data was collected through semi-structured face-to-face interview from all employees who are employed by the Department of Social Development, Polokwane Sub-District. The sample consisted of permanent Social workers, community development workers and social auxiliary workers who have more than one year of experience in the department of social development and excluded all employees who were on the internship programme. The researcher used thematic data analysis to analyse the findings of the study. The study concluded that employees were not participating in the EHWP because of limited knowledge of services rendered at the EHW programme, lack of access to EHW services, privacy and confidentiality of service providers and expertise knowledge of those offering the programmes and inadequate support from management. It is recommended that those in leadership should ensure that they disseminate information about EHWP to all employees.

Can Holistic Wellness Predict Teacher Effectiveness?

Wellness literature reported that the current focus on academic achievement and high-stakes testing has sacrificed wellness in students, and ?there is a strong need and a public outcry to promote wellness in public schools? (Myers & Sweeney, 2005a, p. 228). Also, ?the promotion of schoolwide well-being will enrich the academic experience of students and families. In addition, school staff members who are aware and knowledgeable of wellness concepts may be more likely to apply healthy strategies in the curriculum and throughout the school? (Myers & Sweeney, p. 232). Effective teacher research supported the Student Teacher Assessment Instrument as a viable measure of teacher effectiveness. The purpose of this research was to determine whether holistic wellness as defined by creative self, coping self, social self, essential self, and physical self as measured by the 5F-Wel can be used to predict teacher effectiveness as measured by the STAI. The research question proposed for this study was: Is there a relationship between wellness as measured by the Five Factor Wellness Inventory and effective teaching as measured by the STAI? The research design was correlational. A convenience sample of voluntary participants among the 54 teacher interns during the spring 2006 semester from Mississippi State University-Meridian campus was used. The predictor variables were the second order factor scores on the 5F-Wel. These factors are creative self, coping self, social self, essential self, and physical self. The dependent variable was the overall formative score on the STAI. The results obtained show the predictor variables included in the multiple linear regression analysis did not predict teacher effectiveness as measured by the STAI at an accuracy greater than chance. A statistically significant relationship between the predictor variables and dependent variable was not found. Specifically, wellness as measured by the second order factors on the 5F-Wel did not predict teacher effectiveness as measured by the STAI in this study. Recommendations included: (a) using similar methodology in other studies and (b) replicating the study with future cohorts of student interns from Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus.

The Relationship Between Wellness and Academic Success in First-year College Students

Persistence is an important issue in higher education (Tinto, 1987a). Although social and economic benefits of a college education are well documented (Baum & Ma, 2007; Institute for Higher Education Policy, 2004), during the last 100 years the college graduation rate has remained at approximately 50% (Education Policy Institute, 2004). While prior academic achievement has proven to be a successful predictor of success in college (Camara & Echtnernacht, 2000; Sadler, Cohen, & Kockesen, 1997; Tinto, 1993), it does not account for all the variability in student retention. Research has shown that other factors, including social adaptation, physical fitness, and emotional stability can contribute to whether an individual continues to persist past the first year of college (Astin, 1993; McClanahan, 2004; Tinto, 1987b). The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-reported wellness and academic success in first-year health science college students. In addition the study sought to determine if the relationship between wellness and academic success differs by gender, academic program, or ethnicity. Also examined was whether the factors of wellness could be used to predict academic success. Wellness was defined using the Myers and Sweeney (2005) conceptual framework, as measured in a series of constructs, including the coping self, creative self, essential self, physical self, social self and an overall wellness score. Academic success was defined as first semester grade point average. The study also controlled for high school grade point average (HSGPA) and scholastic aptitude test score (SAT) as factors of prior academic achievement that may affect academic success in college. The findings suggest that the impact of wellness differs by ethnicity and academic program. In addition, certain factors of wellness can be used to help predict academic success in the first semester of college. Finally, overall wellness had little if any bearing on academic success in first-time, first-year students. / Ph. D.

An analysis of student wellness behaviors at a top ten university

This study was designed to analyze student wellness behaviors. The goal was to provide meaningful discussion regarding which behaviors students at a top ten university are engaging in and how that may contribute to their ability to thrive academically. Variables such as gender, year enrolled, and GPA were analyzed to arrive at recommendations on how students personally interested in maximizing their academic performance and ability to thrive on campus could incorporate behaviors that have been successful for their peers into their daily routines. Student development theory was also a component of this study. Undergraduate and graduate student wellness behaviors were comparatively analyzed to better comprehend wellness behaviors throughout the stages of enrollment. The study was designed to analyze what phase of development, through the lens of self-authorship, students were engaging in an effort to articulate how these top ten university students are "making their own ways." This study found that top ten university students are more positioned to thrive academically and perhaps beyond based on their engagement in wellness behaviors. The study also found that there are relationships among the variables gender, year enrolled, and GPA and specific wellness constructs such that different groups of students require different programmatic options. Based upon these findings, recommendations are offered for the incorporation of various wellness programmatic pieces into a university's academic and extracurricular services. Recommendations for other top ten Universities are offered, as well as ways in which non top ten Universities can innovatively adapt programs to support student wellness development with limited human and financial resources.
