Aqui entendida como um fenômeno da poiesis, a tarefa do tradutor é investigada em suas relações com uma teoria da mímesis e do jogo. Integra esse trabalho uma tradução completa e original de Ricardo III, de William Shakespeare, cujos procedimentos específicos são detalhados e problematizados, sobretudo, em notas à tradução propriamente dita. O trabalho de tradução é ainda inserido em uma breve história dos procedimentos de autores brasileiros que adotaram o verso como paradigma para a tradução das peças de William Shakespeare. / Salvador

The practice of altering Shakespeare's plays, begun during the Restoration and continued throughout the eighteenth century and well into the nineteenth, originated in continuously evolving literary and dramatic principles that went much deeper than the capricious whims of individual dramatists. Thus, each Shakespearean alterations in, perhaps, a century's time, a comparative study can provide some insight into the changing rules of dramatic valuation in the eighteenth century. Such a study is the purpose of this work, in which are examined the Shakespearean alterations of John Phillip Kemble. The sheer breadth of Kembles Shakespearean repertoire, his reputation among contemporary Shakespeare scholars and his renown for a quarter of a century as England's foremost Shakespearean dramatist and actor at both Drury Lane and Covent Garden all serve to emphasize the validity of such an undertaking.

This thesis is an attempt to evaluate the evidence for and against the presence of a hero in King John. As such, it is actually a search into the artistic abilities which Shakespeare exercised in this drama to determine whether he created a dramatic work of art which merits recognition for its own sake.

O foco da dissertação é a análise da reescrita em dialeto napolitano do século XVII da obra A tempestade de William Shakespeare realizada por Eduardo De Filippo. O que levou o dramaturgo napolitano a escolher esta e não outra peça do autor inglês foram essencialmente suas afinidades no tratamento de temas como a magia, o sonho, o amor, a família, o poder, o perdão. Eduardo não realizou uma tradução literal da peça inglesa, mas, utilizando uma língua que é uma mistura de dialeto napolitano do século XVII com dialeto napolitano contemporâneo e italiano criou uma Tempestade toda original e pessoal, aparentemente distante do texto shakespeariano / The thesis consists in analyzing the rewriting in XVII century Neapolitan language of William Shakespearian play, The tempest, by Eduardo De Filippo. What made the Neapolitan playwright choose this play, was essentially his affinities in dealing with certain themes, such us: magic, dream, love, family, power, forgiveness. Eduardo did not translate word by word of the English play, but, using a language which is a mixture of XVII century Neapolitan dialect, contemporary and Italian, has created an original and personal Tempest, apparently quite far from the Shakespearian one
