A Win-Win Approach to Promoting Cooperation Between Business Organisations and Business Education: The Role of Internships

Yasin, Mahmoud M., Gomes, Carlos F., Miller, Phillip E. 01 January 2015 (has links)
Utilising internship evaluation forms of students from different majors, who were attending two universities in the USA, and Portugal, this research sought to assess relevant abilities, skills, and attitudes impacting the job performance of these students during their internships. Based on the evaluations analysed, it appears that executives of business organisations tended to value other non-technical aspects of performance, rather than merely the technical aspects. The implications and recommendations of this research to business education, and the business community are presented in the form of two conceptual frameworks. The frameworks are designed to promote win-win relationships, which enhance the employability of business graduates. The proposed frameworks stress the consistency, and the systematic approach to the business-like educational model.

Rosenberg, Christel January 2009 (has links)

The Drivers of Success in the NFL: Differences in Factors Affecting the Probability of Winning Based on First Half Performance

Alleva, Zach 01 January 2016 (has links)
This paper explores how changing various end game statistics effects a given teams probability of winning a game in the National Football League (NFL). Data from the 2000-2016 NFL seasons is split into two subsets, one for teams winning at halftime, another for losing teams. Using this data an empirical model is estimated to study how the determinants of a team’s success differ between the two sets of data. Overall, the factors which determine a team’s outcome are consistent between the two subsets, varying primarily by magnitude of the effect.

Management in Major League Baseball: How General Managers Succeed and Fail Using Statistics to Build Winning Franchises

Baughman, Sam 01 January 2017 (has links)
Baseball fans discuss and remember the heroics of Major League Baseball players and managers. However, team executives operate away from the crowds, in the front office to draft, trade for, and sign talented players and managers to construct successful teams. The intent of this thesis is to first rank and analyze these general managers and presidents of baseball operations through finance and baseball statistics. Then, I will examine team statistics to determine what statistics correlate to winning. Two of the general managers, Theo Epstein and Dan O’Dowd, will then be examined more thoroughly to determine how their decisions impacted their respective teams. Ultimately, this paper will conclude with an assertion that the strategic actions of upper level executives in Major League Baseball directly positively and negatively impact the performance of their teams.

Nato's luftkrig i Bosnien utifrån Pape's teorier

Hederström, Max January 2014 (has links)

Losses Disguised as Wins in Slot Machines: A Case of Contingency Confusion

Daar, Jacob Hy 01 August 2016 (has links)
Negative expected values typically define the behavior of gambling whereby a person risks more money than probabilistically will be returned. Modern slot machines represent the most popular topography of site gambling, and are thought to encourage irrational gambling behaviors through the presentation of outcome stimuli that occasion the gambler to inaccurately detect the programmed contingencies. One recently added characteristic of modern slot machines is the ability to deliver wins with lower magnitudes of credits than the initially staked wagers. Termed a "loss disguised as a win" (LDW), this type of consequence appears to produce reinforcement effects despite representing an overall loss of credits. In a series of three experiments using computer simulated slot machines, the presentation of LDWs were initially evaluated for possible influence on the temporal characteristics of repeated wagers, subsequently examined to potentially bias response allocation across concurrently available LDW display densities, and finally appraised after discrimination training designed to potentially alter the discriminative and consequential functions of LDWs. Treatment implications and directions for future research are discussed.

Customer satisfaction perceptions of dislocated workers served by WIN Job Centers in the Mississippi Corridor Consortium

Washburn, Dava Michelle 08 August 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of satisfaction of dislocated workers served by WIN Job Centers in the Mississippi Corridor Consortium. Four WIN Job Centers participated in this study: Northeast Mississippi Community College WIN Job Center in Corinth, Northwest Mississippi Community College WIN Job Center in Oxford, Itawamba Community College WIN Job Center in Tupelo, and the Golden Triangle WIN Job Center in Columbus that is operated by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. This study was concerned with the following variables: facilities, staff, services, self-service facilities, and overall level of satisfaction. A survey design was employed in this study to collect and analyze the data. From the four WIN Job Centers, a total of 159 surveys were collected in the ten week period. An instrument created and utilized by the North Carolina Employment Security System titled “Customer Satisfaction Survey” was used to collect the data. The instrument was tested for internal consistency, and the Cronbach alpha coefficient was .793. The data collected from the surveys were tested using the One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Among conclusions for this study were the following: each of the four WIN Job Centers rated in the Excellent to Good rating in satisfaction for each of the following areas: staff, facilities, services, self-service facilities, and overall satisfaction; of the five null hypotheses, three were rejected due to there being a statistically significant difference in at least one of the centers with regards to facilities, staff, and services.

To the moderation to the immoderation towars the “dionysiaque” : a study of the excess into the Work of Wim Vandekeybus : under the notion of intermediality and the visuality

Heidelberger, Aurore 04 December 2012 (has links)
Wim Vandekeybus is one of the most important choreographers to the new belgian wave. The purpose of our study it’s to analyze its work in terms of the excess. We study a restraint corpus of works belonging to his choreography and film work. The choreographer ardor of his debut reflected still in its most recent performances such as Blush or Sonic Boom, where the place of the narration is re-evaluated? First of all, we make a focus on the choreographic language’s violence. An emergency’s temporality ordered the performer’s actions. The human relationships are too concerned by this tension, like the relationships between male and female. Then, we take attention to choreographic’s obsession, who research an instinctive behavior. The staging of an exacerbated body pushed into his boundary predominates. Apart from a choreographic research, Wim Vandekeybus is interested in the creation of a stage image, obtained by light creation or introduction of a screen. Confronted to the cinematographic image the body blows up and reaches a Dionysian state. The image of the body in Blush, the movie has the same strength, the same excessive energy, which distinguish his stage. Finally the re-introduction of the narration, by collaborations with contemporary authors, such as Peter Verhelst, P. F. Thomèse or Jan Decorte exacerbates the passions and not achieves to a quiet body.

Ensuring Software Product Quality : An Industrial Case Study / Ensuring Software Product Quality : An Industrial Case Study

Pydi, Manikanta Kumar, Nakka, Annie Sushma January 2012 (has links)
Context This thesis verifies a method developed on alignment issues in different data points and is useful to validate the method in those data points. To find the alignment/misalignment problems occurring within the stakeholders in a company is done through surveys using Hierarchical Cumulative Voting (HCV). This paper presents a case study to explain the importance of alignment between the stakeholders to achieve quality. Time, scope and cost are given higher priority leaving quality as it is hard to measure. To maintain quality in a software product is a major challenge in most of the software organizations. Stakeholders play a major role in software development. Without the alignment and common understanding between the stakeholders, it is highly difficult to achieve successful software project with good quality. The reasons for misalignment/alignment between the stakeholders are being explained clearly in this thesis based on the interviews and the survey conducted in software development companies under the novelty of case study. Objectives To evaluate the usefulness of alignment approach in different data points, to achieve product quality, for understanding the reasons for misalignment and to provide common approach for aligning we need to know the actual aligning priorities given by the stakeholders. We have one method for aligning and we want to see how actual alignment is different in different data points. To find the reasons for different stakeholders’ groups focusing on different quality attributes and to manage quality that helps in aligning quality requirements in future. Methods In order to know the importance of quality, prioritization of requirements and about the alignment problem we have conducted the literature review. To understand the problem and to know the reasons for misalignment in the companies we have conducted a case study in which we interviewed 8 employees from a company and to know the individual ranking of quality attributes we also made use of surveys in which 17 individuals from two companies had participated. Results We have identified the reasons for misalignment using interviews in one company and the individual priorities given to different quality attributes through surveys in two different companies. The qualities are prioritized by the stakeholder groups in the surveys and these are used to calculate the alignment/misalignment between the groups using spearman rank correlation which pointed that there are some disagreements between the stakeholder groups. Conclusions This paper explains the results obtained from a case study for determining the alignment/misalignment between different stakeholder groups and the reasons for this situation. Through surveys we found that there is a strong disagreement between the stakeholders in one company and partial agreement in the other company with respect to priorities they assign to individual qualities and the reasons behind this are obtained through interviews. The reasons for misalignment are lack of common understandings between the stakeholders, less discussion on quality requirement, undocumented priorities, no importance given to quality and others. / This Thesis work is about Software Product Quality and how it is achieved through alignment between the people in understanding the requirements. / 0763138272, 0739849383
